Dear Friends,

Sorry. I was not in town so could not participate in the debate.

When I was going through the responses, I was reminded of two serials i.e. Astitva Ek Prem Kahani and Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin. Both these soaps were not typical saas-bahu types and they were successful also. What do you think?

they shows :

1. multiple rich families
2. one or two poor people exists but they are quickly taken in the rich families as bahus and wear expensive sharees. the other example of the poor class is ' raghu kaka '
3. they always carry a gun with themselves
4. they practice all aspects of relationships which are socially unacceptable.
5. they spend their day either being evil or in the kitchen, happily making lunch or dinners.
6. they sleep with expensive sharees and jeweleries
7. journalists are always waiting outside their front door
8. co incidences frequently happens
9. the 'omens' are true and they happen everyday.

so what people learn are :

1. unscientific beliefs ... such as 'OMG ! a cat just crossed path'
2. various forms of politics to perform in house
3. dont trust anyone !

Dear friends,

This is all true. But I think there are spaces where the makers of serials can show some didactic content. for example, the plot of rape in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki. But the whole issue was presented with sensationalisation and the basic problem was kept aside.
