World slams attack on 'Friendship Train'
Islamabad: Condemning as "mindless acts of violence" the deadly blasts in the Samjhauta Express near Panipat that killed 67 passengers, mostly Pakistanis, world leaders on Monday said such terror strikes should not be allowed to derail the Indo-Pak peace process. Full coverage: Samjhauta Express blast | Helpline numbers Describing the dead-of-the-night attack as "horrendous", Pakistan said that it would not allow wanton acts of terrorism to sabotage the peace process with India. "We it will not allow elements which want to sabotage the ongoing peace process and succeed in their nefarious designs," Musharraf said in a statement. Musharraf underscored the need for the leadership of Pakistan and India to move forward undeterred in the quest for dispute resolution and lasting peace in the region and expressed profound shock over the tragic loss of lives in the firebombing of the train. Also expressing "profound grief" over the terrorist strike, Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing sent his condolences to External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee. Li, who was in India last week on an official visit, sent a message to Mukherjee expressing profound grief and sincere condolences over the tragic loss of lives. The European Union urged India and Pakistan to continue their peace dialogue despite the terrorist strike. A statement issued by the German presidency of the EU said the attack was an act of "mindless violence clearly intended to disrupt the process of rapprochement between Pakistan and India."

"The presidency of the European Union calls upon all parties in India and Pakistan to oppose further acts of violence," the statement said.

There is not much to think, the whole thing is pretty obvious. I read about it in today's newspaper and from the timing of the blasts, just days before the Pakistani foreign minister's arrival for the peace dialogues, it is apparent whoever did it is against any kind of peace agreement between India and Pakistan.

Do you think it hampers Indo Pak friendship?

Both the Indian and the Pakistani Govt. have asserted that this will not hamper their talks and really it shouldn't. To do as the terrorists wants us to do will be a major setback for both the countries. Both India and Pakistan are trying to strengthen their economies and peace is vital for them. Whoever did this should also realise that the common people of both Pakistan and Kashmir, on whose sympathy they are still surviving, will gradually lose faith in them if they try to stunt their progress.

A muslim couple from Pakistan who had come to India after a long time lost five of their six children in the fire and the last one, a one year old baby, is battling for life in the hospital. They are muslim but will they ever be able to forgive these people who say they are fighting for Islam??

Do you think its high time Indo Pak realise the importance having much much more coordination?

India should have taken a tougher stand a long long time ago. Whichever group did this, whatever their cause maybe, they should be quashed completely just like we do with any irritating pest. And yes Pakistan should help us in every possible way in this effort, it will be in their best interest too. So far India has provided only symptomatic treatment instead of trying to cure the disease as a whole and has wasted a lot of time in that process. Enough damage has been done already, why wait for the next strike, go ahead and just annihilate these groups.

What do you think about this incident?

It is very very sad that such type of things are happening again and again.... it just boils my blood that our govt is doing nothing... How Can terrorists bring the bombs and stuff everytime without the notice of the authorities... How, How? and after such incidents happened police says that this was planned for last few months and they had a dry run in Jan.. oh come on.. and this u find out now.. why didnt you guys come to know this before the bombs exploded.. how come always u find things afterwards... We have really made oursevles a soft target for these terrorists... Our government should really take a hard stand towards terrorism and not just mouth it that we will fight terrorism.. May be they have not heard the proverb.. Actions Speaks Louder Than Words.. They should act on stopping the terrorism once and for all.. nip it in the bud...

So many innocent lives are lost in these terror attacks.. it is really heart wrenching to read and see those stories.. Imagine what the actual victims and their families go through.. and yes I also read abut that family who lost five kids and one year old is still battling for her life.. one moment they were playing and laughing and next they are dead.. and their parents witness this happening.. God Help Them and give them strength.. to come out of this grief but which is very hard to come by..

Do you think it hampers Indo Pak friendship?

It should not hamper. In fact after this incident both governments should come together more strongly and give it back to the terrorist. Terrorism of any kind should not be allowed to grow... It is detrimental to the progress of both the countries....

Do you think its high time Indo Pak realise the importance having much much more coordination?

Yes and not just on paper or words but in action too...

Its very sad that all people care about is killing each other and winning the elections and just to get what they want they take lives of innocent ppl without realizing how many tears would be shed after each n every person who dies.

Do you think it hampers Indo Pak friendship?
It defintly does. But i feel that it shouldnt bec u really cant blame a whole nation for one man's fault. If one man is wrong, that doesnt mean u send every1 to the jail rite.

Do you think its high timeIndo Pak realise the importance having much much more coordination?

One more attact on our soil, yet another karmic fact of our life as living in India. Another bunch of innocent lives are lost, yet again....oh well.
Yet another opportunity for President Musharraf to decry that we are trying to put in our most sincere efforts for peace but these fundamentalists wouldn't let me.
Yet another opportunity for current congress leaders to rush for appeasing certain community to make sure they are not necessarily targeted for a genuine investigation.
Yet another opportunity for opposition parties to blame current congress government for doing nothing as if during their rule they achieved peace and harmony.
Yet another opportunity for pseudo-seculars to assert that religion doesn't teach killings, it's just few misguided ones who are misrepresenting their religion.

It was a horrible incident no doubt and seems to be a planned one from initial reports.

Do you think it hampers Indo Pak friendship?

What Friendship? There is no Friendship!

Do you think its high timeIndo Pak realise the importance having much much more coordination?

Co-ordination among Intelligence Agencies you mean, yes that has always been a desire from Indian side but as expected the other side is not too keen on that.

cheers,
