Slambook in IF is trying to stay competitive with other forums who have the same concept.Who knows, we might give Orkut a run for their money one of these days.

Its very interesting actually to get a sneak peak in people's lives, if they choose to share info.

Interestingly, the slambook on IF did not originate to compete with Orkut at the time.

The person who came up with the idea did not even know that Orkut existed. LOL

Yeah but more than the slambook the posts members' make and the views shared reveal much more about themEmbarrassed . DM is one e.g. Similar views attract members and at times opposites too become friendly.

DM is a pretty vocal forum, yet we have multitudes of silent readers here!   I think slam book is a neat concept.

I wasnt contesting that. What I meant to say was that apart from the slambook the posts also reveal abt the member.

In DM, people sometime take a stand on a topic and debate it.This might not be their actual views on the topic.

And slambook sketches a good silhouette of the person, whereas the opinion expressed can be viewed as their voice. Am trying to draw a simile here.Hope I didn't confuse anyone.

Tania

I wasnt refuting the idea or use of slambook.

'If' the views expressed are 'not true' then its far easier to disguise the slambook. Slambook is a fun concept mixed with your likes/interests which are non questionable. Whereas posting views is more serious and open to questioning.

I do believe that what the members post are their views though at times they might not consciously accept them but at some level its them. You cant lie like that.
