Food miles is the distance from the time the product is made to the time it reaches the consumer.

So glad to see this homework post on IF. I am stuck on a calculus question, and I really need help.

The question:

A Pendulum swings through an arc of 120 cm (Swing #1)
With each further swing, the arc length is reduced by 15 %

a) State the growth factor
b) calculate the length of the arc in Swing # 4

I think I'm supposed to use this formula:

Tn = ar^n-1

I just dont get what to plug where. Tn is the term number, a would be the first term, I think the percentage would go in for n. This is dead confusing :\

You are on the right track! Tn is the term number, a is the first term, n is the difference which in this case is 15%.

^^ Thanks Komal, so I believe that the term number would be the amount of swings. And a would probably be where the 120 cm goes. I'll try and solve this out...

Ok I got 18 as an answer, did something totally wrong, cause the answer for the growth rate is supposed to be 0.85. I think 15% is supposed to go in for r, which is the ratio.
