I live in California, USA.. and I download mp3 almost all the time.. but recently one of the person I know of got arrested for downloading music n movies off the net.. from what i hear by ppl is that the reason was that he was hacking some private site where you have to pay for the music but his family is saying that he was just downloading the music..
sorry to bore you will the story but I am really scared n confused now.. and wanna ask if anyone knows if downloading music from sites illegal or harmful?

Yes its illegal as your violating the copyright agreement (that's only if your doing a free download). If you have joined a legal site, and paying for the download, then its legal and the distributors make some money out of it.
If caught downloading MP3s or selling to others, you are liable to police charges.

i had the same problem too. my neighbor got sued for downloading songs from kazaa.
filesharing is illegal, so you can't download stuff from kazaa, kazaa lite, etc. its illegal if you go to a website and download mp3s or anyother type of media(wma, ram, wav,).
instead of downloading songs, you can go to http://www.musicindiaonline.com and listen to songs there.

i dont understand that statement.
downloading mp3 is illegal even if you dont get caught.

you mean getting caught is illegal? or downloading is legal until you get caught? but if it would be legal then y wud they caught u?
