Discovery Chaneel

Reaching 431 million homes in 170 countries and territories, the Discovery Channel provides viewers with engaging stories and extraordinary experiences that share knowledge, satisfy curiosity and inspire the very joy of discovery. The network offers a wide representation of programming genres, including science, natural history, anthropology, survival, geography, forensics and current events.

Original Programming
Founder and Chairman John Hendricks' visionary series Discovery Atlas spans the globe to bring viewers 30 two-hour specials that document the world's cultures, social diversity and geological and natural phenomena. Discovery Atlas premieres in 2006 with initial specials on China, Australia, Brazil and Italy. The most ambitious HD TV project to date, Discovery Atlas is sweeping in scope, majestic in beauty and rich in scholarship.  Each installment tells the stories of individual countries through the intimate portraits of their people.

Discovery embarks on a renewed mission to unearth the world's greatest discoveries with Discovery Quest. This major initiative funds research in space, exploration, paleontology, geology and archaeology. Discovery Quest's Secrets of the Deep explores the deep ocean through the life journey of its greatest inhabitant the sperm whale. Using the latest technology and computer-generated imagery, Discovery will present the most accurate portrayal of the abyss ever created.

Koppel on Discovery
In 2006, Discovery announced a partnership with world-renowned journalist Ted Koppel. Now serving as the Managing Editor of the Discovery Channel, Koppel along with Executive Producer Tom Bettag and their top-rate news team, is producing high-quality programming that gives audiences insight, perspective and analysis beyond the major headlines. Koppel's first subject cuts to the heart of post 9/11 reality privacy and security. From MySpace.com to National Security Agency wiretapping, from the Patriot Act to wireless networks, The Price of Security gives a comprehensive look at the issues that cross personal, professional and diplomatic boundaries.

Debuting in 2007, Planet Earth follows in the spirit of the highly successful 2002 special Blue Planet to illuminate the planet in a stunning and ultimate portrait. The series uses innovative filmmaking techniques to capture never-before-filmed locations and animal behavior, and breathtaking views of some of the world's most remote and wild places.

Popular series, including Deadliest Catch, MythBusters, I Shouldn't Be Alive, Future Weapons, Dirty Jobs and Going Tribal deliver on the channel's promise to provide information and compelling storytelling about the world's most fascinating people, places and cultures.

Groundbreaking Specials
Discovery Channel continues to be at the forefront of providing context to some of the world's most important events and moments in history. Global Warming, hosted by Tom Brokaw, gives a definitive update on global warming directly from the scientists working on the front lines of research. Another Discovery Channel special, Surviving Katrina, documents the perfect storm of nature, science, politics and extreme human experience that swept through New Orleans in 2005. In Everest: Pushing the Limit, the Discovery Channel documents the exhilarating and dangerous climb of 11 determined adventurers as they attempt to ascend five miles above sea level to the summit of Mt. Eve
