First Nominee

Aishwaya Rai

Is one of Bollywood's pre-eminent leading ladies. This Indian darling burst upon the world stage when her striking beauty, poise and commanding intelligence won her the Miss World crown in 1994. This former architecture major soon became one of India's most famous models landing a prestigious Pepsi campaign and appearing in Vogue Magazine. India's top Bollywood directors were soon lining up to work with Ash. Her film debut in Mani Rathnam's 'Iruvar' (1997) received critical acclaim and her performance in Rahul Rawail's '…Aur Paar Ho Gaya' (1997) garnered her the Best Female Debutante Award. In 2000 she was awarded Best Actress by FilmFare and Zee Cine for her work in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's "Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam", in that same year, nominated for Best SUPPORTING Actress for her special appearance in Aditya Chopra's MOHABBATEIN. In 2001 Ash was nominated for FilmFare's Best Actress Award for Satish Kaushik's "Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai".

Ash's star continued to rise in 2002 working again with Sajay Leela Bhansali in 'Devdas'. 'Devdas' is the most ambitious and most successful film in Bollywood history. It became the first Bollywood picture to ever receive a special screening at this year's Cannes Film Festival and broke box-office records in India and the United States. Daily Variety's (06/12/02) Derek Elley describes 'Devdas' as "…some of the most sumptuous production values in Bollywood history…" Elley describes Ash as "almost Audrey Hepburn-like", Moulin Rouge director Baz Luhrmann says "I loved her in Devdas" and Julia Roberts calls her "the world's most beautiful woman".

2003 brought even more exciting opportunities. Ash became the first Indian actor to be a member of the jury at the Cannes Film Festival. Ash is also the latest member of the elite L'Oreal Dream Team, joining beauties Catherine Deneuve & Andie MacDowell as their international ambassador. She graced the covers of India Today and the prestigious TIME Magazine. Time Magazine has also listed her on their list of the "100 Most Influential People in the World Today". She has graced numerous covers worldwide including USA, UK, CHINA, RUSSIA, ISRAEL, UNITED EMERITES, ITALY, SPAIN, MEXICO and FRANCE. Ash was also listed on Rolling Stone Magazine's annual "Hot List", Hello Magazine's Most Attractive Women in the World", Stuff Magazine, FHM magazine, V-Life from Variety Magazine, GQ Magazine, New York Times Magazine, Harper's & Queen and countless others.

2004 saw Aishwarya take on the leading role in her first English language film for Gurinder Chadha in "Bride & Prejudice". She also became the first Indian female to be immortalized in wax at the world famous Madame Tussaud's wax museum in London.

2005 started with appearances on "60 Minutes", "David Letterman Show" and the most watched television program in the world the "Oprah Winfrey Show". Her recent appearance on the top rated BBC show "HardTalk Extra" was seen in 200 countries. She currently graces the covers of Cosmopolitan Magazine, Emirates Woman, Paris Match, Cine Blitz, America Way Magazine and America Magazine.

Aishwarya's career continues to grow even stronger. In 2006 she will be seen in Mistress of Spices for director Paul Berges, Jag Mundhra's Provoked, J. P. Dutta's Umrao Jaan, Sanjay Gadhvi's Dhoom 2, Ashutosh Gowariker's Jodha Akbar, Mani Ratnam's Guru and legendary film producer Dino De Laurentiis's The Last Legion opposite Colin Firth and Sir Ben Kingsley

Nominee 2

Preity Zinta

Preity Zinta

Preity Zinta, the zing thing of the Bollywood, was born on 31st Jan 1974. The Delhiite who hails from a defence background, had already made her mark as a model while still in school & shot to fame as the refreshing, cool, wet model in the Liril ad. This, along with her mischievous expressions and twinkling eyes in the Cadbury's Perk ad brought her to Shekhar Kapur's notice. The famed director was then looking for fresh faces to launch his film 'Tara Rum Pum Pum'. Preity signed on the dotted line, but the film never took off. However, her name was already doing the industry rounds and she bagged a couple of films in quick time.

Luckily for Preity, 'Dil Se..' was her first release. The film bombed at the box-office, but Preity's dazzling smile and pleasant disposition in a small but significant role left behind a decidedly happy impression. With 'Dil Se..' Preity had already proved she could act. 'Soldier' (1998) and 'Sangharsh' (1999) have merely reiterated this fact. In the former she played an impish, spoilt rich girl with great conviction. In the latter she was equally at ease executing the part of a gritty young CBI trainee in search of a dreaded killer. She made a mark in the industry with her film "Kya Kehna".

She's hit the highway 2003 year with two good performances The Hero and Armaan and one big hit Koi... Mil Gaya. The road ahead looks even better, plum projects with Yash Chopra, Karan Johar and Farhan Akhtar have taken care of that. Recently seen in movies 'Kal Ho Naa Ho' & 'Lakshya'. However, Preity, a relentless self-improver, doesn't take her success lightly. Or too seriously either, for that matter. Maybe that's why she enjoys it so much.

Preity, a graduate in Psychology, is so pretty, outspoken and a beautiful actress-dancer who keeps smiling all the time with a dimple on her right cheek. She acted in one movie in Tollywood too. She dated Marc Robinson, one of the hottest models in India, Model and TV anchor (2001) now, broke up with Marc Robinson.

Nominee 3

Madhuri Dixit

Madhuri wanted to become a micro-biologist - however that just wasn't destined to be.   An offer from Rajishri Productions brought Madhuri her first role, the film 'Abodh' (1986) released and forgotten, it wasn't until godfather Ghai saw Madhuri and gave her a tiny dance sequence in 'Karma' (1986), that things improved.  The dance sequence was omitted from the final cut.  Ghai promised Madhuri better  roles, on the condition that she stop doing tiny roles in insignificant films.  Thus, Ghai gave Madhuri 'Uttar Dakshin', and then a proper launch in 'Ram Lakhan' (1988).  Ghai also took the step of putting an eight page advertisement in the trade magazines featuring Madhuri, proclaiming that producers of the calibre of Boney Kapoor, Yash Chopra and six others had signed Madhuri for their forthcoming projects.   It was all together another matter  that none of the forementioned producers had signed Madhuri for  their films.

Madhuri however, didn't have to wait for Ghai's 'Ram Lakhan', N.Chandra's 'Tezaab' and ek, do, teen char took the nation by storm, Miss Dixit had arrived, and the whole world knew.  Tezaab went on to complete a golden jubilee, and was thus a bigger hit than Ram Lakhan.

A superb performance followed in Dil (1990) - which brought Madhuri her first Filmfare award, a rapport was struck with Indra Kumar which resulted in two more blockbusters Beta (1991) and Raja (1995).  1990 onwards, a hit film per year followed including Saajan, Khalnayak, Prem Pratigaya, cumulating in Hum Aapke Hain Koun (1994), hindi cinema's biggest blockbuster to date.  Madhuri mania ensured the success of 'Raja' (1995), a film with many flaws, thus Madhuri was renamed 'the female Amitabh Bachchan'.

Unfortunately after the success of 'Raja' (1995), Madhuri's films started to collapse at the box office.  Yaarana, Rajkumar, Prem Granth, Mahaanta, one after the other.   Luckily for Madhuri she gained praise for her performance in 'Prem Granth' (1996) and for her looks in 'Rajkumar' (1996).  By now it had dawned on the industry  that Madhuri's lataks and mataks ensure a films success, not.

The presswallas had by now written Madhuris obitury, and annouced that it was time for Madhuri to pack her bags and get married.  An issue was made of Madhuri co-starring with Akshaye Khanna who was younger in age to Madhuri in Mohabbat.  It was also widely stated that Madhuri favoured films produced by her secretary Rikhu, even though all of Rikhus productions failed at the box-office.  Madhuri was never far from controversy, her much publiced affair? with Sunjay Dutt caused a storm, when Sunjay's wife issued a press statement proclaiming her desire to have Sunjay back.  The Choli ke peeche song in Khalnayak also caused a stir.  With women liberation groups asked for a ban on Madhuri. After   the not so great Koyla, director Rakesh Roshan stated that Madhuri could no longer play the youthful type, and continued to make unsavoury comments.  Madhuris response was a dignified silence.  Madhuri is on top of the league when it comes to being unaffected by what is written about her.  Very rarely if ever has Madhuri retaliated to comments made abouther  in the press, by either journos or collegues.

Prakash Jha's 'Mrityudand' (1997) ensured critical acclaim if not box-office success, Madhuri still had the fire that was shown in Tezaab, the intensity that came to light in Beta.  Age, said the industry was catching up, Yash Chopra's Dil Toh Pagal Hai (1997), proved otherwise. A phenomenal success at the box-office, mass acceptance by the audience.  Madhuri never looked  better, danced better or  acted better, her latest offering was indeed her best till date.  Madhuri went on to win a handful of awards for her performances in Mrityudand and Dil Toh Pagal Hai, and even dedicated her Filmfare award to her critics.

In 1998 Madhuri had only one major film to her credit CN Chandra's Wajood, unfortunately the film failed to recreate the hysteria of Tezaab (1988).   1999 it seems will be Madhuri's golden year, for an actress who rarely trends the path of unconvential roles, this year has Madhuri in a host of different characters.   MF Hussain's 'Gajagamini' is an art film that has Madhuri playing a range of characters.  In Boney Kapoor's 'Pukar' Madhuri's got a negative role, as well as the usual dose of triangular love stories, Madhuri's first south Indian film, 'Engineer', is a techno thriller.

On a personal note, Madhuris still looking for prince charming, she says he doesn't have to be rich millionaire or an intellect, but what does he have to be?  Someone understanding,  thoughtful and someone who'll love her unconditionally.

Nominee 4

Kajol

Kajol is the best actress in Bollywood today. Her mom Tanuja , has also acted in a lot of films. Her sister Tanisha, who acts in some T.V. programs in India, presently employed by BPL Cable. Her dad's name is Somu Mukherjee, and he's a producer. Acting is in Kajol's blood. Kajol's parents are split up, though she sees both of them, and says that she wasn't affected a great deal by their split.

In the movies:

On occasions she has said that if she ever gets sick of movies then she will leave the industry without any regret. Kajol considers acting, unlike many of her competitors, as a hobby and gives it the respect of an artform. She concentrates more on her acting than on the financial success of the film. Kajol has a financial backing to not to rush into any film and give herself a bad reputation thus saving us all some grief ! She has been said many times to be the No.2 in the industry, after Madhuri, but she refuses to fall into this numbering business and has said that she respects all her fellow actresses, and tries to do her best without worrying about her position in the Indian film industry.

Wedding to Ajay Devgan

Ajay Devgan & Kajol's wedding was a quite affair where only a few close friends and relatives were invited. The newly wed couple went on a two month honeymoon traveling the world visiting such places as Sydney & Cairo. Kajol will continue to act in select films, maybe in one or two an year. And with Ajay confirming this to the media, Kajol fans everywhere must have heaved a collective sigh of relief.

Rani Mukherjee

Rani Mukherjee

Member of the same illustrious film family from which Kajol draws her lineage Rani Mukherjee may still be at a distance from the citadel that houses her cousin. But there is no doubt about the light-eyed Bengali girl's mass appeal. Moreover, she is putting all her efforts and working hard to reach there.

Precocious yet innocently oblivious of it, it is the actress's unassuming self which draw friends and well-wishers to her.

Producers made a beeline for Rani's door (she was riding high on the success of Ghulam and
Kuch Kuch Hota Hai) and just as she was gradually shifting positions towards the top in the popularity charts, she started getting the jolts. Good nature did not really help Rani in gaining stronghold and consolidating her position in Mumbai.

Films like Baadal cast a shadow on her prospects. The film left theatres in India without a whimper. Hope was alive in the form of
Hadh Kar Di Aapne, which was in the pipeline. Rani had faith in Govinda and David Dhawan's saleability at the box office. Unfortunately, the film failed to raise a laugh and the cash boxes did not ring.

Rani tried to remain unfazed. She was looking towards the future and Hey Ram. As an actress, Rani was proud to be associated with an actor-director of Kamal Haasan's caliber and was thrilled to have Hey Ram in her lap. Even
Hey Ram did not propel her career to the extent she had expected. There wasn't any critical appreciation of her performance in the film. Infact, Rani's fans became aloof when they saw their favorite actress locked in a passionate kiss in the film.

The actress does not regret though. ''I wanted to work with Mr. Kamal Haasan. The rest did not matter'' she said in an interview some time ago.

Rani still is excited about the projects that are lined up as her next films. A series of unsuccessful runs have not dampened the giggly self. She continues to be sprightly.

Priya wal

Priya wal who plays anvasha's aka ashi's role is a gal who never planned her life. Priya who wanted to be a tennis player & then a model & then finally into acting(remix) has least interest to do films & Balaji soaps

Well Priya is my idol in every respect...she has achieved so much at such a young age....she has acted so well in her very 1st show.
She has so many diverse interests...she was a model b4....then got into acting...is well read n loves reading n watching movies....has been a national level tennis player n now she is even writing an alternative script n hopes to make a movie outta it some day
I wish I could be like her....living each day as it comes....experiencing everything in life....n living life to the fullest
As of now am really missing her n am hoping to see her on TV as well as the Big screen really soon

have my own individual style. And
I am a person with very diverse interests. Like I have been a national level tennis player. have been a model, have travelled all over the country. So, I have seen a lot. Hence, that makes me a very different person where I have varied interests. Professionally, this is my first role. The character of "Anvesha" is very different from anything else on TV (currentl

I was modelling with Elite in Delhi, and a movies production (house) that belongs to Goldie Behl and Srishti Arya saw my pictures, which they liked. They called me to Mumbai for an audition and that's how I got the role of "Anvesha."
