After that day there was no encounter. Secret discoveries were made about each other, glances were stolen without letting the other one know about it, yet they never moved towards confrontation. Suvreen unknown of the fact that Yuvraj knew who she was, kept doing her work. Yuvraj also welcomed them and still kept them in the innermost pocket of his bag. Gradually exams neared, and it was Yuvraj's last year at school too. Suvreen focused on her studies and tried to forget him as he would be leaving, but it was difficult. She kept herself busy and immersed in books to avoid thinking about him. Exams were over. It was class XII students' farewell and Suvreen sent a last handmade card and a chocolate through Samar, who was still then numb and hadn't told Suvreen anything about Yuvraj knowing it was her. He was simply enjoying the show instead. That day, she didn't talk to anyone except her mother. She hadn't even attended the farewell function. For most time of the day she had locked herself in her room and cried her heart out. Back then, she had made herself believe that it was just a fling and had had tried to get over it. But afterwards she realized she couldn't run away from her feelings and decided to accept it that she indeed had fallen for him.
Yet, since that day she never showed anyone her true feelings or shared them. She bottled up them all within herself and had decided never to open up to anyone. Whenever anyone reminded her of the old days she would laugh it off as a joke. Gradually, she had started living for her mother only and didn't care about herself. She had learnt to live for others, and smile with their happiness. And about her own happiness, she wished she could get what she had wanted, but knowing that expectations could lead to depressions she didn't expect anything. She had learnt to smile reminiscing the bits of memories her heart and mind had captured, and preserved from those good old days.

"Mumma, aaj main lunch pe nahi aaungi. Khushi ke saath bahar jaa rahi hun."
Suvreen said as she stood infront the mirror clad in a blue saree with white borders, combing her hair.
"Kahan jaa rahi hai?" Her mother questioned coming into her room with the puja thaal.
"Reunion hai mumma. School ke friends sab aarahe hain.Isliye Khushi ne bulaya hai."
She replied, brushing the end strands completing her task. Her mother comes near her and feeds her Prasad and sits on the bed near her.
"Aaj saree mein kitni pyaari lag rahi hai meri Suvi" She said gently stoking her hair lovingly.
"Aaj thodi na pehli baar pehn rahi hoon." She asked casually getting up.
"Par aaj kuch zyada hi achi lag rahi hai" Her mother smiled.
Suvreen also smiled at her mother and from outside there was sound of a honking car. Within 45 seconds Khushi stepped inside.
"Aunty namastey" She chirped in her cheerful voice.
Suvreen's mother turned and smiled at Khushi.
"Arre Khushi beta kitne dino baad ayi ho. Ab toh aunty ko koi miss bhi nahi karta"
She said in a complaining tone while stuffing her mouth with a ladoo from the puja thaal.
"Nahi na aunty, busy ho jaati hun. Warna aapke yummy halwa ko kaun pagal miss nahi karega"
Suvreen mother smiled at her childish comments and left the room leaving the two friends alone.
"Waah! Tu toh aaj kuch zyada hi achhi lag rahi hai!" Khushi complimented.
"Meri chod...tumhe kya hogaya? Tum normally saree nahi pehente!" Suvreen asked in a surprising voice.
"Socha try karlun aaj. Waise utna bhi buri nahi lagti. Haina?"
Khushi twirled herself infront of the mirror checking herself and then looking at Suvreen for answer.
"Bahot achi lag rahi hai." Suvreen smiled genuinely.
Khushi beamed at her words and dragged her out saying that they were getting late. After lot of persuading and emotional-blackmails by Suvreen's mom, they had breakfast, and left. Khushi opened her car's door and sat to drive. Suvreen got seated too. Suddenly, as she noticed Khushi, she had a gut feeling that something was unusual in the day. Something was unusual in Khushi. Some unknown excitement was evident in her. Minutes later, she decided not to force her brain to think too much and concluded that she was assuming things, which she should not.
After a drive of half an hour, they reached the venue. Khushi and Suvreen, both got down together. As they walked inside, Suvreen again started to feel something was unusual. She even for a bit hesitated to walk further and her eyes roamed around trying to search for something. Khushi noticed the confusion in her face and smiled knowingly. Maybe all that she had read in romantic novels, about feeling the presence of someone you love, was true.
Khushi, was not only a friend but more like a sister to Suvreen. From all her other friends, she was the closest to her since school-days. Khushi, was a kind of supporting and understanding friend who never forced her to spill out whatever she felt about anything. Instead, she was such a friend who could always figure out her moods and according to the situation decides to give her space or to talk to her. She knew that after school what was the reason for which the spark in her eyes were lost, the glow of happiness in her face and the tint of mischief she carried every time was lost. She got used to the changed self of Suvreen who didn't allow anyone to peep into herself and know her matters of heart. It had taken long for Khushi to find out the thing that was bothering her and when she had succeeded she had smacked herself for not have realized that earlier.
That the delicate roots of tiny harmless crush from tender days of teenage were nurtured so much, that they had now grown into something much stronger called love. And her best friend had been struggling to uproot the whole, from her heart. The day she realized that, she also had realized what a fool was Suvreen and she deliberately needed some help. And so she decided to lend her helping hands even though she wasn't asked for it. After all, if it's not to help without being asked for, what is the value of being a best friend!
