Shiv stirs again and slowly opens his eyes. Gauri sees Shiv waking up and she quickly wipes her tears but doesn't know that a few drops of her tears still remained on his hands. He looks around as he tries to adjust his eyes to the room and then last night's incidents hit him like cold ice and he jerks towards Gauri and sees her trying to avoid his eyes. Shiv brings the back of his right hand up to rub his left eye and as he's about to rub his eye he realizes that his hand is wet. He thinks for a moment and then looks up at Gauri who's still trying to avoid his gaze but he sees the moistness in her eyes. He doesn't know what to say or do so he sits there staring at her for a few moments till she finally cannot bear his eyes on her and she ties to get up using her left hand as she cannot put pressure on her right hand as that was the side where she was shot in the back. As soon as her muscles stretch she feels the piercing pain in all her right side again and she cries out this time bringing Shiv back to reality. This time Gauri's eyes fill with tears of physical pain not emotional pain but she makes sure that she doesn't let them come out. Because the last thing she wanted from Shiv was sympathy. She decided then and there that if she couldn't have Shiv's love then she wouldn't want his sympathy either. Moreover, she didn't want Shiv to think that she was trying to get close to him. After all, he had misunderstood her plenty of times before.
As Gauri cried out in pain, Shiv immediately went to help her to sit back down and lean against the pillows but she went rigid at his touch, forgetting her pain. She said in a whisper, "It's ok Shiv, I'm fine. I can manage." Shiv was surprised by her words. He could clearly see that she needed help and care then why had she stopped him? What bothered him the most was that this was the first time that she had said no to him and that too when she needed him the most. Shiv didn't know how to react for a second but then when he saw her scared eyes he softened up and stepped back. She leaned back slowly and rested against the pillows. She closed her eyes as she felt his piercing gaze. She couldn't tell if he was mad or not but it was better to keep things this way, she thought. She didn't want to live a short fantasy and then have her hopes shatter once again. She'd rather stay away like she had been doing and not let her heart wander into unknown territory.
