Pakistan lost!!!! CryCryCrySOUTH SFRICA IN THE SEMI FINAL!

South Africa tore through Pakistan's top order for a landslide 124-run win in Mohali to book their place in the Champions Trophy semi-finals.

The Proteas won the toss but were reeling at 42-5 before Mark Boucher (69) and Justin Kemp (64) ground out 131 to set a total of 213-8.

But Pakistan were in deeper trouble at 47-8 and were unable to recover, surrendering on 89 in 25 overs.

South African paceman Makhaya Ntini took 5-21 off six overs.

Interview: South Africa captain Graeme Smith

Former skipper Shaun Pollock ended with 2-20 off seven and Charl Langeveldt chipped in with 2-19 off five.

Swashbuckling all-rounder Shahid Afridi offered Pakistan brief hope with a four and a six in his 14, while Yasir Arafat (27) and Umar Gul (7) staved off the inevitable with a late stand of 30. None of the top seven reached double figures.

Pakistan's record lowest one-day score is 43 against West Indies in Cape Town in 1993, while the lowest ever (35) was posted by Zimbabwe against Sri Lanka in Harare in 2004.

South Africa's Boucher (69) added 131 with Justin Kemp (64)

South Africa's second victory in Group B ensured they qualified top of the group and will travel to Jaipur to meet the winner of Sunday's match between Australia and India.

New Zealand, as runners-up, will play the winner of Group A in Mohali, while Pakistan and Sri Lanka were eliminated from the tournament.

But the eventual outcome in Mohali looked distinctly unlikely when South Africa lost two wickets inside the first over.

Captain Graeme Smith led the procession back to the pavilion with the second ball of the match, out lbw to paceman Gul, and was followed two deliveries later by Herschelle Gibbs, caught by Shoaib Malik at first slip.

Boeta Dippenaar and Jacques Kallis survived some close calls before Dippenaar fell for 13, caught one-handed by an athletic dive across first slip from wicket-keeper Kamran Akmal off Rao Iftikhar Anjum in the 10th over.

Kallis stuck around long enough to make 17 before edging behind to Akmal, also off Anjum, while AB de Villiers (10) became Akmal's third victim, this time off seamer Arafat.

De Villier's demise left South Africa reeling but wicket-keeper Boucher and Kemp knuckled down to give the Proteas hope.

Boucher, beginning to up the run rate after weathering the storm, eventually fell in the 44th over, caught by Mohammad Hafeez off the bowling of Abdul Razzaq after facing 98 balls.

Former skipper Pollock added just two before he was caught by Anjum off Hafeez, while Kemp, who hit two big sixes late on, was pouched by Malik off Gul in the final over.

Andre Nel (12 not out) saw out South Africa's allocation of overs with Ntini as Gul ended with 3-36 and Anjum took 2-26.

Pakistan pacemen to discover fate

Pakistan pace bowlers Mohammad Asif and Shoaib Akhtar will find out on Saturday if they can play in the World Cup after testing positive for banned substances.
Both were sent home from the Champions Trophy after testing positive for the performance-enhancing drug nandrolone.

Shahid Hamid, head of the tribunal set up to look into the allegations, said: "We'll close the inquiry on Saturday.

"Both players said they have accepted the findings of the 'A' sample and don't want a second test conducted."

He added: "We offered both the players to have retests on 'B' samples which they declined, which implies that they are not questioning their failed dope tests.

"They had explained their point of view and we are now going to take medical opinion to examine the situation."

If found guilty, the pair should face a two-year ban, the minimum for a first offence under International Cricket Council doping rules, which would rule them out of the World Cup which takes place next March and April.

They have been accused of testing positive, but we don't know if they took it inadvertently or intentionally

PCB chairman Dr Nasim Ashraf

However, the Pakistan Cricket Board has said it will take its own decision because the tests were conducted internally.

PCB chairman Dr Nasim Ashraf promised the tribunal would act "impartially and fairly" and seek a "correct decision".

He added: "A thorough, independent investigation is being carried out. They have been accused of testing positive, but we don't know if they took it inadvertently or intentionally."

The hearing, which opened last Thursday, continued on Friday and lasted for more than six hours with both bowlers appearing twice before the tribunal.

"During the second hearing Shoaib and Asif recorded their statements," a PCB spokesman said.

"Asif came alone, while Shoaib was accompanied by doctor (and personal physician) Nauman Niaz and also stayed for one hour."

Why Blame Models?

"Why blame models alone for contractual breaches? When I used to endorse products there were hardly any professional ethics. Either companies mention and bind the models by the contracts and pay them enough compensation so that they do not endorse other products of similar category, or they don't make a fuss about it. While signing us up for their products, they actually assume that models themselves would not endorse any other product. Why shouldn't we when we are not bound by any contract? These firms would deliberately void the contract so that they wouldn't have to pay the compensation. Professional ethics work both ways. If models are expected not to endorse two similar products at the same time, companies should also pay models extra money for a certain period of time as a compensation. Besides when I was modeling there was hardly any professionalism on the company's part either. They would run the advertisement long after the contract would expire. So it has to work both ways."

Nirma Aunti!

Whatever you do ,never call Nirma "aunty" or else she i'll turn the other cheek sooner than you can bat your eyelids! Te valuable lesson was learnt the hard way by a group of Nirma's fans who recently visited her on the sets of an under production movie. Spilling the juicy details , our mole told about the visitors among whom were the parents of an adorable little girl who wanted to have her picture taken the glamorous star. And when the tome came for snap , it was Nirma 's temper which did the snapping on hearing the girl's parents tell their daughter to stand with Nirma "Aunty" for the pictures. All huffed up , Nirma stomped out of the studios in a fit of rage , leaving everyone baffled.

Movie Of the Week

Majajan is a HIT...

• Director: Syed Noor • Producer: Saima • Actors: Saima, Shaan, Madiha Shah, Shafqat Cheema. • Majajan has broken record for Lollywood, the set by Reema Khan's Koi Tuj Sa Kahan a year before. Majajan earned one lac 28 thousand rupees while its nearest competitor Koi Tuj Sa Kahan earned one lac 11 thousand rupees on the first day at cinemas. "Majajan has termed out to be oxygen for the Pakistani film industry," said Syed Noor, director of Majajan. Majajan is a love story Syed Noor says he "made most passionately". Inspired by the life of Baba Bulleh Shah and his 'ishq' with his 'murshad', the film is in its post-production and will be released on Eid ul Fitr. • The director of Majajan, showman Syed Noor said that he was a very romantic person. "Hence, the film. "When I read the verses of Baba Bulleh Shah I promised myself that I will make a film on the great sufi poet's 'ishq' and I was looking for an opportunity to do that. So, I discussed the story with my wife (Rukhsana Noor) who is also a writer. She converted it into a full-fledged script and finally I created Majajan." "She (Saima) didn't compromise on quality, and spent lavishly on making Majajan a masterpiece," he said. Love knows no caste or creed, and it fights all obstacles and hindrances that come in its way. This is what Majajan is about. A Syedzada (played by Shan) falls in love with a poor village belle (Saima) who sings songs in the various village occasions. The lady knows that she belongs to a lower class and is no match for the Syedzada. The Syedzada, on the other hand, adores Baba Bulleh Shah and performs dhamal on his verses, wearing ankles around his feet. "Shan will prove with this film that he is not just good for the usual Punjabi film roles, but also for more subtle characters." • Noor added that the album of Majajan had ten songs in all, but only five had been added in the film. Zulfikar Ali has composed the music of the film, while Aqeel Rubby, Rukhsana Noor, Khursheed Kamal and Khawaja Pervez have written the lyrics. Noor said that the songs in the film were all situational. He hoped that they would be enjoyed by the audience. "I'm sure my songs will remind the audience of films like Pattan, Mukhrra, Naji, Ishq-e-Laila, Yakkey Wali and Kartar Singh." Noor also said that Majajan was a pure Pakistani film because it had been shot entirely in Pakistan. Though the processing work has been done in Bangkok because this is a DTS film. • "I have hired no Indian singer, composer, choreographer, lyricist, cinematographer or actor," Noor said gushingly. "Majajan is also a pure family entertainment. I am sure our ladies and families will like it immensely." It may be mentioned here that Majajan also marks the comeback of Madiha Shah, a talented actress of the 90s. She plays Shan's wife. The film also stars Saud, Shafqat Cheema, Rashid Mehmood, Adeeb, Shabnam Chaudhry, Iftikhar Thakur, Sardar Kamal, Raseela and Kajal. many of you people will be surprised by Majajan being declared as a classis...but it actually is a classic in Punjabi movies.... a semi art movie with a brilliant direction, excellent music, mind blowing locations and dresses and remarkable actings, This is wot majajan is all about

Pakistan coach to front doping inquiry
October 28, 2006 - 8:22PM

Pakistan coach Bob Woolmer has been summoned to appear at the inquiry investigating doping charges against fast bowlers Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif, an official said on Saturday.

Team physiotherapist Darryn Lifson will also appear before the three-member inquiry here on Wednesday.

"To meet all the requirements of justice we have now summoned coach Woolmer and physio Lifson for the next hearing," tribunal chief Shahid Hamid told reporters.

"Before submitting our recommendations to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) we would like to hear Woolmer and Lifson, as we feel that without hearing their point of view it would be tough to reach a conclusion."

Woolmer and Lifson are expected to return on Saturday after Pakistan bowed out of the elite Champions Trophy in India, losing against South Africa by 124 runs on Friday.

Akhtar and Asif, who were pulled out of Pakistan's squad for the Champions Trophy last week, were cross-examined by medical experts on Saturday, Hamid said.

The bowlers said on Friday they would not challenge the results of their positive tests for nandrolone carried out in a WADA (World Anti-doping Agency) laboratory in Malaysia, and declined to have their 'B' samples examined.

Woolmer, who took charge of the Pakistan team in July 2004, has accepted responsibility for initiating the dope tests of 17 players after they returned from the tour of England in September.

Akhtar, who returned to cricket only last month after missing Pakistan's Test series in England with an ankle injury, has denied cheating.

"I have not knowingly taken any performance enhancing drugs and would never cheat my teammates or opponents in this way," the 31-year-old said.

The pair face a two-year ban, the minimum for a first offence under International Cricket Council doping rules. However, the PCB said it will make its own decision on any punishment since the tests were conducted internally.
