Why Blame Models? "Why blame models alone for contractual breaches? When I used to endorse products there were hardly any professional ethics. Either companies mention and bind the models by the contracts and pay them enough compensation so that they do not endorse other products of similar category, or they don't make a fuss about it. While signing us up for their products, they actually assume that models themselves would not endorse any other product. Why shouldn't we when we are not bound by any contract? These firms would deliberately void the contract so that they wouldn't have to pay the compensation. Professional ethics work both ways. If models are expected not to endorse two similar products at the same time, companies should also pay models extra money for a certain period of time as a compensation. Besides when I was modeling there was hardly any professionalism on the company's part either. They would run the advertisement long after the contract would expire. So it has to work both ways."

Zulfikar Ali has composed the music of the film, while Aqeel Rubby, Rukhsana Noor, Khursheed Kamal and Khawaja Pervez have written the lyrics. Noor said that the songs in the film were all situational. He hoped that they would be enjoyed by the audience. "I'm sure my songs will remind the audience of films like Pattan, Mukhrra, Naji, Ishq-e-Laila, Yakkey Wali and Kartar Singh." Noor also said that Majajan was a pure Pakistani film because it had been shot entirely in Pakistan. Though the processing work has been done in Bangkok because this is a DTS film. • "I have hired no Indian singer, composer, choreographer, lyricist, cinematographer or actor," Noor said gushingly. "Majajan is also a pure family entertainment. I am sure our ladies and families will like it immensely." It may be mentioned here that Majajan also marks the comeback of Madiha Shah, a talented actress of the 90s. She plays Shan's wife. Pakistan coach to front doping inquiry

Pakistan coach Bob Woolmer has been summoned to appear at the inquiry investigating doping charges against fast bowlers Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif, an official said on Saturday.

Team physiotherapist Darryn Lifson will also appear before the three-member inquiry here on Wednesday.

"To meet all the requirements of justice we have now summoned coach Woolmer and physio Lifson for the next hearing," tribunal chief Shahid Hamid told reporters.

"Before submitting our recommendations to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) we would like to hear Woolmer and Lifson, as we feel that without hearing their point of view it would be tough to reach a conclusion."

Woolmer and Lifson are expected to return on Saturday after Pakistan bowed out of the elite Champions Trophy in India, losing against South Africa by 124 runs on Friday.

Akhtar and Asif, who were pulled out of Pakistan's squad for the Champions Trophy last week, were cross-examined by medical experts on Saturday, Hamid said.

The bowlers said on Friday they would not challenge the results of their positive tests for nandrolone carried out in a WADA (World Anti-doping Agency) laboratory in Malaysia, and declined to have their 'B' samples examined.

Woolmer, who took charge of the Pakistan team in July 2004, has accepted responsibility for initiating the dope tests of 17 players after they returned from the tour of England in September.

Akhtar, who returned to cricket only last month after missing Pakistan's Test series in England with an ankle injury, has denied cheating.

"I have not knowingly taken any performance enhancing drugs and would never cheat my teammates or opponents in this way," the 31-year-old said.

The pair face a two-year ban, the minimum for a first offence under International Cricket Council doping rules. However, the PCB said it will make its own decision on any punishment since the tests were conducted internally.

Miandad wants more power for Pakistan coach after rout

KARACHI, Oct 28 (Reuters) - Former test captain Javed Miandad has called for the Pakistan team coach and selectors to be given more power after the side's humiliating 124-run defeat against South Africa in the Champions Trophy.

Pakistan were dismissed for just 89 runs in the must-win tie against South Africa, who moved into the semi-finals with the win in Mohali, India on Friday.

"The cricket board must give more authority to the coach and selectors to have a say in all matters to reduce the influence of the players," Miandad told Reuters on Saturday.

Miandad, who played 124 tests, 233 one-day internationals and coached the team three times after his retirement in 1996, said there was also a need for appointing a former player as an advisor.



"The West Indies have done well since Clive Lloyd was named team advisor. We should also follow their example to support the coach," the 49-year-old added.

Miandad bemoaned that successive boards had failed to put an emphasis on team discipline and this had encouraged a culture of "player power".

"What happened against South Africa is a culmination of different episodes in the last few months which exemplify the urgent need to address disciplinary issues," he said.

"The players need to learn from their mistakes and be more professional and committed in their approach to the game."

Sporadic violence on Eid in Balochistan

Five dead in tribal clash; rockets fired at Jaffar Express;three pylons, two gas pipelines blown up



QUETTA: Sporadic incidents of violence were reported from Dera Bugti, Bolan, Kohlu and Jaffarabad districts on the Eid days in which five people were killed and a train and Sui gas electricity installations came under fire, official sources said.

The bloodiest incident took place in the Jaffarabad district, where five Magsi tribesmen lost their lives in a tribal clash on Wednesday. The tribesmen were returning to their home after offering Eid prayers in Goth Ghulam Rasool, when their opponents opened fire on them. The reason behind the ambush is stated to be an old enmity. The police claimed to have arrested two of the accused and recovered arms and ammunition from their possession.

Meanwhile, two passengers were injured when the Rawalpindi-bound Jaffar Express came under rocket fire between Panir and Peshi railway stations in the Bolan district on the Eid day.

Reports said that the attackers fired several rockets. Two rockets hit the train, which injured two passengers. The injured have been shifted to the Sibi Civil Hospital.

Following the incident, the Bolan Mail was stopped at the Mach railway station for a while and was given go-ahead after security clearance.

The other incidents were reported from Dera Bugti on Friday, where three power supply towers were blown up, suspending power supply to the Dera Bugti area. The assailants planted explosive devices close to the electricity towers between Pesh Bogi and Tali Mad areas, which damaged the towers badly.

Un fortunately, a Wapda team, which was going to the site of one of the explosions met an accident. The jeep carrying a Wapda officer, Ali Abbas Rizvi, and a lineman, whose name could not be ascertained immediately, fell into a ditch, while negotiating a sharp turn near Sui. Both the Wapda men were injured in the accident.

Moreover, two gas pipelines were blown up in Pir Koh and Kashmore road on Thursday. As a result, the gas supply to the Purification Plant has been suspended. In Kohlu, a landmine exploded in Maiwand area on Friday, when a bull cart hit it. The blast killed the ox on the spot.

Eid-ul-Fitr celebrated with religious zeal


ISLAMABAD: The nation celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr on Wednesday with religious enthusiasm and solemn pledge to make Pakistan a truly enlightened Muslim welfare state.

Marking the culmination of Ramazan, the faithful started their day with Fajr prayers and later they thronged to offer special Eid prayers. A huge number of big and small congregations were held across the country to thank Almighty Allah by bowing their heads besides asking for His blessings, welfare, prosperity and well-being of the whole Muslim Ummah.

The Ulema and religious scholars highlighted the philosophy and importance of Ramazan and Eid-ul-Fitr. They called upon the faithful to promote the lofty principles of Islam for peace, tolerance, forbearance, co-existence and harmony in the light of the Holy Qur'aan and Sunnah of the Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).

The largest congregation of the capital was held at the Faisal Mosque where President Gen Pervez Musharraf and a large number of people including federal ministers, parliamentarians, diplomats and other notables of the society offered prayers.

Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz offered prayers at the Prime Minister Staff Colony Mosque and offered prayers for Pakistan's progress, prosperity, strength and unity of the Muslim Ummah. Hundreds of faithful joined the prime minister in offering special prayers for the Kashmir and Palestine cause, early rehabilitation of the earthquake-affected people, and welfare and success of the Pakistani nation in all spheres.

People from all walks of life attended the Open House reception to exchange Eid greetings with Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz at the PM House.

In utter contrast to the otherwise quiet roads of the capital, those leading to the Aiwan-e-Sadr and the Prime Minister House remained unusually busy, with visitors coming in to exchange Eid greetings.

The guests for the PM House included federal ministers, ministers of state, advisers, politicians, parliamentarians, federal secretaries, religious leaders, diplomats, senior military and civil officials, literary figures, editors, columnists, businessmen and elite of the city.

President Gen Pervez Musharraf and First Lady Begum Sehba Musharraf also visited the PM House. The prime minister also called on the president at the Aiwan-e-Sadr and exchanged Eid greetings.

Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Gen Ehsan ul Haq, Vice Chief of Army Staff Gen Ahsan Saleem Hyat and Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Afzal Tahir called on President Gen Pervez Musharraf and exchanged Eid greetings with him. They remained with the president for some time and discussed matters of national interest.

Later, the ambassadors based in Islamabad along with their spouses called on President Musharraf at the Aiwan-e-Sadr to exchange Eid greetings. Federal ministers, ministers of state, parliamentarians, senior government and military officers, religious scholars and businessmen from across the country were also present at the reception.

President Musharraf met with each and every guest and exchanged Eid greetings with them. First Lady Begum Sehba Musharraf was also present on the occasion.

A minorities' delegation comprising representatives from the Christian, Hindu, Sikh and other communities led by Minister of State for Minorities Affairs Prof Mushtaq Victor also called on President Musharraf and offered Eid greetings to him.

The biggest congregation in Rawalpindi was held at Liaquat Bagh where thousands of the faithful offered Eid prayers. Similar congregations were also held in other major and small cities and villages in the country. The faithful exchanged Eid greetings and visited the graves of their loved ones.

Meanwhile, the Islamabad Capital Territory Police chalked out special arrangements to ensure security of people on Eid-ul-Fitr. More than 1,300 personnel were deployed in parts of the capital city to ensure security of life and property of the people on Eid.

At Eidgahs, mosques and Imambargahs security cover was provided by policemen in plain clothes as well as in uniform. The policemen were also deployed at parks and recreational places besides major hotels of the capital. A large number of policemen were kept in reserve in case of any untoward happening or eventuality.

Like other parts of the country, Eid-ul-Fitr was celebrated with religious fervour in Lahore on Wednesday. Hundreds of thousands of faithful offered Eid-ul-Fitr prayers with religious fervour and solemnity at over 500 mosques, parks and open places in the provincial capital.

Punjab Governor Lt-Gen (retd) Khalid Maqbool and Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry offered Eid-ul-Fitr prayers along with a large number of faithful at the historic Badshahi Mosque.

The city roads saw bumper-to-bumper traffic at Chand Raat but wore a deserted look on Eid day as majority of non-Lahorites left for their home towns to celebrate the gala with their families. The law enforcement agencies adopted strict security measures.

Eid-ul-Fitr was celebrated with traditional zeal and religious fervour in Balochistan on Wednesday. The day dawned with special prayers in mosques and Eidgahs for the solidarity, integrity and prosperity of the country and unity of Muslim Ummah in all the districts of the province.

In the provincial capital, Eid congregations were held in different parts of the city, however, the big and noticeable congregation was observed in Eidgah Toghi Road where most of the city notables including Balochistan Governor Owais Ahmed Ghani offered the Eid prayer. The governor later met people from different walks of life at the Governor House and exchanged Eid greetings with them.

Special fairs were arranged and circuses were set up in different localities of the city to provide entertainment to people particularly to children who enjoyed different kinds of swings and food stalls at these sites

The people of interior of Sindh also celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr with traditional zeal, enthusiasm and religious fervour. The day dawned with thanksgiving prayers in the mosques, while Eid congregations were held at over two hundred central mosques, Eidgahs and open places in Hyderabad City, Latifabad, Qasimabad and Hyderabad Rural Talukas of the district where tens of thousands of the faithful bowed their heads before Almighty Allah. The main Eid congregations were held at Eidgah Thandi Sarak, Cantonment Eidgah and Masjid Abul Fazal Abbas in Hyderabad. Ulema and Khateebs in their Eid sermons highlighted the importance of the day.

Poison liquor kills 23 in central Pakistan

MULTAN: At least 23 people have died this week after drinking home-made liquor in central Pakistan, police and hospital officials said Saturday.

Seventeen people died in hospital in the central city of Multan in the last two days, while six people died at their homes, doctor Fahim Javed of the city's main Nishtar hospital said.

Javed said most of the people died after suffering severe liver damage.

Multan police chief Munir Ahmed Chishti said most of the people were poor labourers aged in their 20s who mixed locally made liquor with a chemical to enhance its effects.

Chishti said police were trying to round up people involved in making illicit liquor and selling it in the market.

Prohibition has been enforced in the Islamic republic since the 1970s but clandestine production of alcohol is rampant especially in the rural areas.

Officially two breweries operate in the country to provide liquor to non-Muslim communities, who form three percent of the 150-million-member Muslim state.
