Aditya Srivastava and his career need no introduction for ardent fans, but of course, what's a birthday without a look through the years of amazing work?

He started his career with the 1995 movie Bandit Queen in which he played the role of Phoolan's curel and abusive husband, Puttilal. Appearing for a brief period, Aditya showcased his talent when he convinced one and all in his role.

His next major role was in the 1998 movie Satya, where he played the role of Inspector Khandilkar. He served as the narrator, at various points throughout the movie. He played the role of Commissioner Amod Shukla's protege, who follows Shukla's ideology in the field and kills Satya at the end after arriving to arrest him.

Aditya had a small role in Dil Se (1998) as a terrorist and appeared in the critically acclaimed movie Dil Pe Mat Le Yaar(2000) as Tito, which he also co-produced. He also had a small, but memorable role as ACP Aditya in Saathiya (2002).

Aditya's next big role was in Matrubhoomi: A Nation Without Women (2003)which explored the impact of female infanticide on the stability and attitudes of society. In the film, Aditya is addressed simply as Raghu's uncle who is unmarried due to the dearth of women in the rural areas and thus when the only woman, Kalki in the village is subjected to the beastility of the men in the village, he joins in the rape. As Kalki goes on to bear a baby girl, he joins in the killing as each man tries to lay rights on her and her child.

2003 was a strong year for Aditya as he appeared in 3 other movies: Paanch as Murgi, Mudda - The Issue as Harpool Singh, and Ek Hasina Thi as an advocate.

In PaanchAditya played the role of Murgi, the guitarist in a group of 5 friends who end of going down the wrong line in an attempt to make money fast. Out of the 5 friends, Murgi is the only one who resists in joining and thus this makes for a captivating and enriching performance.

In Mudda - The Issue, Aditya played the role of Harpool Singh, a rustic, fatherly political figure in a village who clashes with the ruling political head, MLA Balli Tai, in bids to usurp her, while in Ek Hasina Thi, Aditya played the role of a manipulatie and swindling lawyer, who tricked the leading lady, Sarika, into confessing a crime which she had never committed.

2004 gave way to the roles of Badshah Khan in Black Friday, Lt. Col. Pradeep in Lakshya, and Ejaz in Deewar - Let's Bring Our Heroes Home. In Black Friday, Aditya played the role of a henchman who had gone into hiding during the 1993 Bombay blasts and was later found by police. When he realizes that he has been betrayed by his own people, he turns police witness realizing how wrong his ideals were.

He then went on to play a second-in-command alongside Amitabh Bachchan's character in Lakshya, which was immediately followed by the role of a ruthless Pakistani officer who made life a living hell for the Indian prisoners in Deewar - Let's Bring Our Heroes Home. In one scene he is seen mercilessly flogging Major Ranvir Kaul, played by Amitabh Bachchan.

In 2005, Aditya played the role of Dr. John Sanga in Dansh, who rapes Maria (Sonali Kulkarni) multiple times while she is bound and blindfolded. Several years later, when he meets her again, she recognizes him due to subtle non-visual characteristics and then forces him to confess his atrocities.

After a series of brief roles, Aditya got his first role as a lead in the 2009 movie Dil Se Pooch...Kidhar Jaana Hai. He played the role of Avinash Srivastav who got separated from his wife (played by Vani Tripathi) during the Mumbai riots. Several years later, when they meet again, he is a cop and she is a prostitute. The story follows them as they try to move past this phase.

In the critically acclaimed Gulaal (2009), Aditya played the role of Karan, the illegitimate son of a Rajput King who is fiercely independent and harbours a deep loathing for his father, while maintaining an outwardly calm appearance. The film is a treat to watch for the performances and for the rather amazing storyline.

He then went on to star in Mohandas (2009) in which he played the role of Harshvardhan Soni, a committed lawyer from a small town in India and a college friend of Mohandas. He takes on Mohandas's case of stolen identity with the intention of hauling the usurper with rather bizarre results.

In 2010, Aditya played the role of Sameer in Kaalo (2010), a horror movie. Aditya played the role of Sameer, a common man on the way to his village to solve his village's water problems with gunpowder, who gets attached to Shona, a 12-year-old girl on the same bus as him. When the witch, Kaalo, comes after Shona, he defies all odds to save Shona.

Apart from this long lists of movies he also acted in small impressive character in movies like Sanshodhan, Hazaar Chaurasi Ki Maa, Dil Pe Mat Le Yaar & Raakh.

In Sanshodhan, He is Chunni Singh...not a big role...he's present throughout, but doesn't say much.

In Raakh, he plays another negative character.

He acted in other languages apart from Hindi- Alwar & Naalai are two such movies of this genius actor. In Alwar he plays a character of a police officer where in Naalai, he plays a negative character.

He doesn't confine himself to Silver screen alone. He's made an impact on small screen too!!

Aditya has also had a versatile career in the Indian TV industry. He first appeared in Byomkesh Bakshi - Kahin Kavi Kalidas as Madhumoy Sur, one of the suspects in a murder. He then played the role of a nefarious man on the deathbed in Raat Hone Ko Hai - Lifeline who prolongs his death by killing people with a long lifeline as he has a score to settle with a person from his past life who had killed him in his past life.

Aditya also starred in 2 episodes of Rishtey. The first was titled "Maa" in which he played the role of a dreaded terrorist Rashid Gul, who seeks refuge in a victim's house after threatening the mother and sister, Usha, at gunpoint. When they discover that he is suffering from malaria, they care for him and even tell the police he isn't there. This develops a beautiful mother-son relationship between the 2, which leads the mother to ask Rashid to surrender. However, when he goes to surrender, the police shoot him dead, leaving the mother and Usha torn. The second episode was titled "Highway", which was later remade into the popular movie Highway (2014). In it he plays the role of Vijay, a rough and aggressive man involved in the business of human trafficking, who falls for Veera, a young lady he had abducted for the same purpose. The episode is centred around a journey both literally and figuratively as Veera and Vijay comes closer until the 2 leave everything behind for a new life.

Aditya also played a hilarious role of Mr. Daruwala in the comedy serial Yeh Shaadi Nahi Ho SaktiHe was a drunkard flop director who willingly goes along with Golcha to make a flop flim so that Golcha can lose money to avoid taxes.

Aditya has also played roles in many other shows include Star Best Sellers, 9 Malabar Hill, Naya Daur, Aahat, and Saturday Suspense Peheli. Each and every role has always been a treat for his impeccable acting and his ability to live whatever character he is playing.

As the actor exhibited his unmatched talents through various shows and movies, the ultimate turning point in his life appeared in the form of the show CID.

Prior to taking up the role of a stalwart cop, he played the role of Paresh, the negative character, in the episodeCase of the Stolen Gun in 1998, wherein he stole ACP sir's gun in an attempt to finish his ex-boss, but is stopped in the end by ACP Pradyuman himself.

Another noteworthy negative character is that of Rocky in the episode Beherupiya (2009) where he plays the decoy of Abhijeet and manages to push Daya out of the way, once he comes to know that he is being suspected. Even now the viciousness in his voice and his eyes when he says, "Daya toh gaya" and the evil laughter, sends cold shivers down everyone's spine. Aditya once again proved himself more than just capable of doing any role.

Perhaps the agility of this young man forced the director BP Singh to persuade him to sign up for a few episodes as a cop. Thus was born our stalwart cop Abhijeet in the episode Case of the Stolen Dynamite in the year 1999 and the date being 21st July. Well, in other words,Aditya and Abhijeet were born on the same day. The episode features Abhijeet's memory loss and his failure to recognize his own mother. In spite of this emotional turmoil, Abhijeet uses all his mental prowess and aids in the effective capture of the criminal.

Initially he joined as Daya's senior and the second in command next to ACP sir. Through his elegant acting skills Aditya Srivastav quickly found an own place for himself through Abhijeet. His unquestionable wit he made an efficient and trustworthy leader next to ACP Pradyuman. His sharp shooting skills combined with the quick way he gets angry are legendary. Duty always comes first even before his life and he has never hesitated to humbly handover a letter of resignation to ACP sir which would ultimately reach the trash as a result of his proven innocence

17 awe-inspiring years in CID and yet, if one thing remains to be an Achilles' heel to him, it's his troubling memory. This one weakness of his has put him in umpteen trouble and often the miscreants use it to their advantage to threaten the team by kidnapping him. Yet, with the help of his family-like team, he always overcomes it all in the end.

Another of the never-ending instances of his versatility is the way he portrays himself in the disguise scenes. Having done over 500 disguises in his mammoth journey in the show of 17 years, every one of his disguise roles fetches him enormous applause and admiration from the loyal viewers of CID. Be the expression of anger, love, shock, pain and what not, he does it perfectly and it would be just apt to call this versatile man the MONARCH OF EXPRESSION!

Speaking on relationship terms with his fellow colleagues, his rapport with Senior Inspector Daya is known to every loyal CID viewer. Daya has been his strength, his pillar of support, his brother, his shoulder to cry on and above all the best friend he could ever have in his department. Through his emotional turmoil, through his crisis in the office, through every thick and thin, Daya has been with him. He trusts Daya with his life and would do anything, even if beyond his reach to save Daya if he is in danger. Their legendary friendship was portrayed strongly in episodes of the Shruti Series, Case of Inspector Daya's abduction, Case of Accused officer, Behrupiya, Abhijeet in Coma, Azaadi Ki Jung, Revenge of the Criminal and so goes the list endlessly. In the episode Abhijeet Ka Inteqaam II, Daya chokes as he says this about Abhijeet "ek aisa dost jo mere ek awaaz mein kahi se bhi aa jaata tha". Such wonderful is the bond they share. In yet another episode Daya says " Arre yaar tumhare liye kuch bhi" when Abhijeet thanks Daya for a help rendered. True relationships go through tests that break the people involved. One such thing happened between our legends and it was during this period of emotional turmoil that an injured Abhijeet tells Daya in the episode Azaadi Ki Jung 2, " Jab tak tumhara ye dost zinda hai, koi bhi goli tumhe chhu nahi sakti" and once again, they proved that they would weather any storm that might come across as a hurdle in their friendship.

Abhijeet & ACP Pradyuman's relation is another wonderful relation shown in CID. ACP Pradyuman always helps him to come out from his memory loss & loves him a lot as ACP sir once said - "maine tumhe humhesha apne bete se badkar pyar kiya hei". He also said - "tum to jante ho mere baad agar main kisi par sabse jyada varosa karta hoon to woh tum ho". And Abhijeet never lets him down. "jaan de dunga magar aap ka varosa nehin tutne dunga". Abhijeet never mistrust ACP Pradyuman even when the world goes against him. He always stands by him. Once DIG Samsher Singh offered him the post of ACP of CID by shooting ACP Pradyuman in reply Abhijeet said to Daya - "Daya, Samsher ko malum nehin ke Abhijeet beek nehin sakta aur ACP ki office ka rasta Pradyuman ka laash ke upar se nehin jata". Who can forget that scene of Akhri Chunauti Part 8 where Abhijeet tried to save ACP's life by blackmailing him to put gun on his own head. ACP Pradyuman trusts him most & mistrusts him as well whenever Abhijeet becomes suspect of any crime. Abhijeet never complain about it rather he said - "ACP sir dil se nehin dimaag se sochte hei". Though there is only one case till now where ACP sir said - "magar Abhijeet mere dilne iss jhoot ko sikar nehin kiya...mujhe pata tha tum aisi galti kar hi nehin sakte...bina kisi wajah tum kisi mujrim par goli chala hi nehin sakte". Though ACP Pradyuman shows doubt openly on Abhijeet in maximum case, but he silently believes Abhijeet. We can easily understand that from ACP Pradyuman's expressions. And Abhijeet always proves himself innocent. ACP Pradyuman knows very well that Abhijeet can do anything for him even he can sacrifice his life also. Once Freddy said to ACP sir- "Abhijeet sir to aapke liye apni jaan vi de sakte hei", ACP replied - "issi baat ka darr hei Freddy mujhe". Abhijeet understands ACP Pradyuman more than others & he always dare to question the ACP when others can't think about it. We see another touchy scene for this two in Abhijeet Ka Inteqaam II where Abhijeet was shot lying on the road, Daya holds him in his arms and tries to revive him by calling out to him & he appeals to ACP to call him to consciousness as he would never disobey ACP, ACP calls out to him and a few seconds' later Abhijeet gasps and consciousness is regained. In Rahashya Dweep IV episode we see again their sweet relation & we can't forget Abhijeet's dialogue - "aap hamare liye anmol ho hum appko khone ka khatra nehin utha sakte". The look of inexpressible gratitude that fills Abhijeet's face when he looks at ACP sir when he says "Transfer wansfer kuch nahi, sab rad ho gaya" and the return smile that he receives shows the deep-rooted understanding of the two.Their relation is more than just formidable and they share a perfect father-son relation.

There exists a bitter-sweet relation with Dr. Salunkhe. Though the nok-jhoks in the lab are worth some memories, the squabbles that happen between them get too painful. In one of the recent series, this went to the extent severing their relation but in the end all was well when the doctor apologized to Abhijeet through a sorry card.

A friendly relationship existed between Asha and Abhijeet. The only woman officer till date to have had the distinction to call the two officers by their name Abhijeet , Daya and sir was a formality of respecting rank and nothing more.

The officers who enter CID, regard Abhijeet as the quintessential senior. He is like a star to be followed and a senior to be emulated. Specially his scintillating bonds with Freddy, Vivek, Sachin, Tasha, Purvi, Vineet & Rajat are well known. Apart from Daya, the relationship he shares with Freddy is long standing and crosses many boundaries. Instances of the same can he seen in many episodes before 2009 where every scene between them remains etched in the heart of every CIDian.

From the beginning, whether it is Manu (Case of Missing Father, 1999), Vikram (2005 few episodes), Shreya (Nanhi Gawah, 2009),Daksh (Raaz Bad Uncle Ka, 2012) or Sia(Abhijeet Ke Inteqaam, 2012), Abhijeet shares wonderful bonding with the kids. Special mention to deaf & dumb orphan Shreya.Abhijeet shares special bond with her in Nanhi Gawah episode & in the end he wants to adopt her but her uncle comes to take her. Abhijeet argues with ACP & Daya but they don't permit Abhijeet to adopt her. 5 years later she becomes in trouble due to her uncle but Abhijeet along with CID team save her. Perhaps the first time the viewers witnessed this strong character shed tears of love, when he tells Shreya " Main tumhe iss duniye mein sabse zyada pyaar karunga". In the end, he adopts her.

Abhijeet still remains the enigma whom all want to solve or understand yet few can get close to have even a couple of questions answered. His dedication to his job and his proximity to ACP Pradyuman and Daya puts him always in the line of fire. Many a times he has played with his life to get at the truth. Viruses, bombs, headaches have never been successful in deterring him from executing his job honestly and with lan.As The ACP said it once, Abhijeet manages to prove his worth in spite of hundreds of Agniparikshas that he has had to face till date. He has come out of it every time, untouched, unmoved. And who better than Aditya Srivastava could portray this dark yet subtle, brilliant yet challenged by fate character of Sr.Inspector Abhijeet? Its very rightly said, Actors don't choose characters, rather characters choose actors for themselves ! Sr.Inspector Abhijeet has Chosen the Master himself, Aditya Srivastava.

Nobody can successfully step into the shoes of a character without imbibing its soul into themselves the moment the director says "action". Literally, they more or less become that person for a short amount of time, fully understanding what the character is and what its personality is like. Often, a good amount of research and more than large amount of rehearsals and takes are required to bring out the desired performance. With all the factors combined, it is a physically and psychologically stressful experienceThe fact that Aditya Srivastava not only has such a vast range of strikingly varied characters under his belt, but has done them with surprising ease and touching humility, goes on to show that he deserves every bit of the enormous respect he's earned from his ever-growing fan-base and why he's one of the most versatile, talented, artistic and underrated gems in the Indian film and television scenario.

INTERVIEW OF ADITYA SIR ON INDIA FM

"The kind of personality I have, if I am there in a lead role, a film cannot be 100% mainstream"  - Aditya Srivastava

By Joginder Tuteja, December 8, 2006 - 06:51 IST

In an age of popular films coming week after week and breaking the record of the last blockbuster in the way, there comes a small film like Dil Se Pooch,Kidhar Jaana Hai that takes an offbeat approach and narrates the tale of a couple that got separated post infamous Mumbai riots and met again in diverse circumstances. We get into an exclusive conversation with the male lead of the film, Aditya Srivastava, who has shown his mettle as a character actor in films like Bandit Queen, Dil Se, Satya, Ek Haseena Thi,Matrubhoomi and Dansh in the past.

You seemed to have a great start with films like
Bandit Queen [1996], Dil Se [1998] and Satya [1998]. Why have you been not so high profile on the big screen even after being there for more than a decade?

Well, I mainly look for interesting roles and interesting scripts. This is why I was there in films like Ek Haseena Thi,Deewar and most recently Dansh but then yes, they have been far and few. A lot of my time goes in my serial CID on television and hence until and unless I get to play a very special character, I do not really crave to be there on the big screen.

So is your character that special in Dil Se Pooch & Kidhar Jaana Hai

Yes, thats true. The film has a backdrop of Mumbai riots and revolves around the characters played by me and Vani Tripathi. Both of us play husband and wife who get separated after the riots. What happens when we meet after years forms the crux of the situation. The irony is that while I am a cop, my wife is now a prostitute. How both of us decide to be together while being scared about the society and the fight that begins henceforth is the underlining drama in the film.

Sounds rather interesting.

Yes, it is! Because while so many stories are told about people who died or got injured in the riots, there are so many terrible stories about people who were indirectly affected by these riots. Dil Se Pooch  narrates the tale about two such people.

But don't you think that a film with a subject like this needs to be promoted well for its target audience?

Yes, but then I may rather not comment on the films publicity. If my producers feel that they can get the movie in theaters after a 2 week promotion then they have their reason about doing so. I am not really getting into the whys here and would just want the film to do well whenever it releases!

Whats the relevance of the films title considering the subject of the film sounds dark?

The idea is simple. Whenever you are on a crossroad, always listen to your heart. That's because the voice that comes from inside is never wrong. It never lies and always guides you well. This is what happens to the main characters in the film. When they are in crisis, they listen to the heart since it dictates what is right and wrong.

For the first time in your career, you play a lead role.

That's right and what an experience it was! In fact I was running away from the role but then it has turned out to be such an enriching experience in the end. Shrirang, the director of the film, had seen Satya and as per him, he had written the script keeping me in mind as the central protagonist. He was sure that he wanted to cast me in the role.

Most of your films have breached on being slightly offbeat. Is that intentional?
I won't say that I have a problem doing mainstream cinema. In fact I have been a part of such films like Lakshya or Deewar. But then let me be honest here. The kind of personality I have, if I am there in a lead role, a film cannot be 100% mainstream. It needs to have a subject which is different from what works as popular cinema. I can be cast as a villain in mainstream cinema but certainly not a hero.

Is that a reason why you played the role of an evil lawyer in Ek Haseena Thi?
True, the role was brief but was brought out pretty well. In fact I would also be seen as a villain in 2-3 Tamil films that I am doing.

And release of Black Friday should be another example of that, is not that so?
Yes, we all are quite relieved that the film would finally be seeing the light of the day after the Supreme Court judgment. With a Jan/Feb time frame for the film's release looking probable, Mid-Day [the film's producers] would be devising a publicity strategy for the film and bring it to the audience.

It could be a turning point in your career?

Dekhiye aasha to nai hi rehti hai!
There have been number of films that I have done with acclaimed directors in the past and I really believe that Black Friday by Anurag Kashyap would make its mark too.

So what next after Dil Se Pooch and Black Friday
There is a film titled Raakh which I have done with director Hansal Mehta. It is a film in a complete commercial format with Sohail Khan and Mithun Chakraborty. I play a villain in the film. Beyond that I would be also be doing a film called Mohandas with Mazhar Kamran who is an established cinematographer. And no, before you start wondering, film Mohandas has nothing to do with Gandhi!!

'The Killer' gang has a breather before the shoot

[Anupreet SandhuPosted: Fri Feb 19 1999 IST]

PANCHKULA, Feb 18:
Aditya Srivastava and Niki Aneja, would play the lead roles for the first episode of the serial - "The End", which will be shot at Kufri. The two were camping in the township at the residence of a friend on their way for the shoot.
Aditya is the new actor who hit the Silver screen with his role as the first husband of Phoolan in the "Bandit Queen", besides playing the fiery Inspector in "Satya".
Produced by Felix Sequeira and directed by Rajesh Ranasingle, the serial's first episode "The End" revolves around a psychopath woman (Niki), who saves a writer (Aditya) injured in an accident...
Meanwhile, Aditya who has already done roles which demand sheer gravity of performance, considers cinema as the ultimate goal of an actor. Coming from Allahabad, he started off his career with an amateur theatre in Allahabad and later moved on to the Sri Ram Centre at New Delhi where he was spotted by Shekhar Kapoor for his "Bandit Queen". From then on, his journey in films went on. Aditya has also acted in tele-serials like - 9, Malabar Hills and Yeh Shaadi Nahi Ho Sakti.

An interview of Anurag Kashyap and the making of 'Black Friday'

Anyways, while writing the script few actors i always had in mind..the ones who didn't have to audition..I wanted KK to play Rakesh Maria..Naseeruddin Shah to play Tiger memon and Irrfan to play Badshah Khan..Aditya Srivastava was to play Dangle..Nowazzuddin to play Asgar Mukadam and Pankaj jha to play theba and Dubyendu bhattacharya to play yeda yaqub..Siddhu was the only choice for samra..We got some..others we didn't..Naseer dropped out because he did not want to play a muslim terrorist ..it was a very sensitive time then..Gujrat was burning..and you know how in times like that anybody could have stood up and said anything..Its a funny country..same reason why Irrfan dropped out..Irrfan said he had no issues to play Rakesh Maria..that put us into a sticky situation..the finance was raised by selling these three actors together for the first time..the financiers were pressurising us to interchange the casting of badshah khan and rakesh maria..they also told me i had a KK bias..i tried to show them how KK had a close resemblance to Rakesh Maria..when pressure got too much..i put my foot down..AM stood by me..we got away...Now if not Irrfan then who for Badshah khan..i immediately thought of Aditya Srivastava..but i had to show them why i thought so..i hesitantly requested Aditya to audition for Badshah..he had no problems, and was very sporting..sometimes it gets embarrassing..an actor you have worked with and appreciated twice before, you ask him to audition..he rocked..i knew it..

Aditya Shrivastav's Black Friday

By Surendra Hiwarale [ February 11, 2007 at 11:39 am]

The film started and I was taken into the entire conspiracuy of the bomb blasts. Aditya Srivastav aka Badshah Khan was known to me as we had worked with him in Ek Haseena Thi before. Before that my memories of him were of the straight forward honest cop that he played in RGV's Satya. When I was watching it I was constantly pulled in by his performance. Never ever did I loose a single frame whenever he was on screen. What I had liked about the film was its innocent approach towards justifying what happened. And three cheers to Anurag he managed to achieve it.

Its interval, Aditya Srivastav is no doubt my hero, KK still I do not like. We have chai, cigrettes, samosa's, and go back again. The film begins, Pawan too has had an impact on me and he is consistent even today. Aditya I like much more than yesterday. He rocks; I start to feel after Amitabh Bachchan he is the one who has the caliber when it comes to performing.

I can never be wrong in my judgement. As the film unfolds, I am reminded of the scenes that I know. Aditya Srivastav makes me further respect him as the most convincing Badshah Khan. I love you boss as an actor. Whether, it's his gradual progression when he realizes that he has been cheated by Tiger Memon. Jusy check him out in the scene where Theba (I think) tells him that their passports have been burnt. The fight that ensues there, immediately the next cut is of Aditya standing in the bathroom and guys the way he has performed actually made me feel that, this is how real Badsha Khan must have felt. It's so touching.. the scenes where he is constantly trying to speak with Tiger Memon, where in he keeps asking him to move him from Bombay, and his conctant trips to Rampur to jaipur to tonk to again jaipur to Calcutta are amazingly performed, I just loved the way Anurag has designed his emotional graph, which ultimately leads to his coming back to Rampur Badshah Khans native place. It was so well done. Badshah Khan surrenders, his first meeting with Maria, and him finally trying to turn the state approver just makes you feel bad for not only him but for all the boys who were a part of conspiracy. Aditya's track gets over and so does chapter three.

Aditya Srivastava: Black Friday, Satya

...And they aren't the only ones on the Bollywood horizon'actors like Ranvir Shorey, Deepak Dobriyal, Prroshant Narayanan, Aditya Srivastava, etc are all bringing fresh vitality, vigour and also money and success to the alternate, small film movement in the country.

"Opportunities for us are increasing," says Aditya Srivastava, seen recently as Badshah Khan, Tiger Memon's henchman on the run in Anurag Kashyap's Black Friday.

Dil Pe Mat Le Yaar! A bittersweet life By Hansal Mehta

...After much hesitation and awkwardness, my worst fears came true. Manoj refused the film. He wanted to be part of a much bigger film. He wanted to support me but in a bigger endeavor. In despair I approached the very gifted and under-rated Aditya Srivastava for Manoj's role. Aditya agreed. The producer backed out...Aditya Srivastava showed no disappointment when I told him that Manoj would be doing the role offered to him. He accepted the role of Tito for a pittance. He even contributed money towards making the film. I think Tito is one of Indian cinema's most memorable characters. It was a great performance by a very magnanimous actor.

Twelfth year, caught in the same case!
[Smita Roy, TNN Mar 15, 2009, 12.12am IST]

Having done a host of critically acclaimed movies, from Bandit Queen, Dil Se, Ek Hasina Thi, Black Friday, Aditya Srivastav is now excited about Gulaal in which he's seen portraying grey shades.
Besides films, Aditya is a known face on TV. But, incidentally, he has never done any other show apart from CID. "This is the 12th running year and somehow it's more of an emotional bonding I have with the serial now," he says. But why isn't he seen in any other show? "I took up CID because I simply loved the concept of the show. Today, its the only one of its kind crime thriller on TV. Unfortunately, this genre has not been tapped too much on television and the bandwagon runs after saas-bahu sagas or reality shows, either of which I'm not really interested in. If apart from CID there's something that I like, it has to be the movies I do!"

But unlike his counterpart and good friend Kay Kay Menon, who also arose from television, Aditya has not yet received the kind of appreciation and roles that he might deserve. To this, he says, "I'm doing this serial for so many years now, that I feel it would be unfair on my part to leave it just for the sake of films. In the process of trying to juggle both TV and films, it becomes a little difficult as I've dedicated 20 days a month to the show. That leaves me with 10 days for meetings, script readings or shoots for my films. But now slowly I'm doing some time management so I can work more towards films. Hopefully things should happen and by God's grace, I get more and better work."
Few people know that recently he had done a film as a solo hero called Dil Se Pooch Kidhar Jaana Hai, which he modestly confesses didn't work well at the box office and he wasn't surprised, as the marketing was next to negligible. But then he believes, "One should keep trying. I'm trying my best and what happens or what would happen would definitely be for the best. I don't lose heart and by the way there's another movie releasing this year with me as the protagonist. It's a daylight horror and a one of its kind... just like my show!"
