Dr APJ Abdul Kalam served as the 11th President of India from 2002 to 2007.

GUWAHATI: Former President of India and rocket scientist Dr APJ Abdul Kalam was hospitalized in a very critical condition after he fell ill during a function at IIM-Shillong on Monday.

Kalam, 84, was at Indian Institute of Management Shillong to attend a function on Livable Planet Earth there.

An IIM-Shillong faculty said that Kalam was rushed to hospital after the former president collapsed at the function.

Sources said that he was admitted in extremely critical condition.

This is so shocking.. He delivered a lecture today which is his favorite work and passed away.. Sad.. Very Sad.. RIP APJ Sir.. The Best President India ever had...😭

this is really unfortunate..few minutes before i heard he collapsed while giving lectures at shillong and now this

such a bad day for the country.first the terror attacks in punjab. then the sudden death of one of the greatest n kindest human being,our missile man,best president,great scientist, ppl's fav..specially children n students n he was giving his last lecture to them.his pics are out ther n he looked so healthy . n he even tweeted today.

there was a rumour sm days bk of his fake death n jharkhand's hrd minister paid homage to him n became a joke ...such intolerable rumour tht was for ppl.who wud have known sm days later he will actually pass away.

rip sir .u are an inspiration to everyone of us..
