The Dilwale duo to star in Half Girlfriend adaptation

B-Town is abuzz with rumours that Varun Dhawan will team up with his Dilwale co-star Kriti Sanon for Ekta Kapoor's film based on Chetan Bhagat's novel Half Girlfriend.

A source confirms the development, "Ekta has made up her mind to cast Varun in the film."

About Sanon's selection, our source says, "Ekta feels that Kriti is one of the most promising newcomers around and fits the character well. And while it was reported that Alia Bhatt was approached for the role, that speculation died after she began dating Sidharth Malhotra. "

Kriti's inclusion in the film is being kept hush-hush. "Neither Varun nor Ekta are willing to talk about it at the moment. Ekta has a flurry of films which she wants to finish before moving ahead with this film and Varun has been sworn to secrecy."

Tanveer Bookwala, CCO, Balaji Motion Pictures, says. "The film is only halfway done and will take three more months to complete. As of now, we have not approached any stars."

When asked if they were considering Varun, he added, "Varun and Balaji have delivered a successful film in the past. So when we make films, we do think of him. But we will only cast someone who we think will fit the role perfectly."

He confirmed that the film would go on floors next year. "For now, our slate is full."
