Part 26
Geet got into the house with a jump in her feet. Her heart was doing
somersaults just with the thought of going out with him. "Annie" that
was the first name that came into her mind. She has to tell her now. Like right
now. Taking quick steps in excitement, she moved towards the stairs only to be
stopped by Rupa voice, who was coming out from kitchen. "Good Afternoon
ma'am" She greeted and took hold of the carry from Geet. "Good day Rupa...When
did you come back?" "Yesterday Ma'am...as soon as you left with Maan
Sir, We too left to come here" Rupa replied. "Oh...Ok...Where is Annie?"
"Annie Maam went out to her boutique Maam" and that made Geet sad.
She really to share this news with Annie. Just like old times. First hand,
first serve. "Thank you" Geet replied and moved up the stairs to her
room.
There on the other hand, as soon as the meeting of concern ended, Maan dismissed his team. Aryan and Rahul stayed behind to discuss the progress of their Dehradun project which Maan had just visited. They had definitely observed the change in the tone of his friend as well as in his behavior. No doubt he was as serious about his work as ever but after the work ended, he just closed all the files and get up to leave rather than his usual stay to check and discuss details with them. "Woah woah man...where are you going?" Aryan asked, standing up quickly in his way before he can move out. "I...I am sorry guys but I need to leave now..." Maan replied, looking in hurry as he patted Rahul's shoulder. "Wh..Wha...What hurry Maan...Why such rush yaar...?" Aryan asked teasingly and winked at Rahul who caught the hint. "Haan yaar..you just came back from Dehradun...Give us some update first k how was the trip...how is the work going on in the construction site?" Rahul moved his hand on Maan's shoulder, making him turn but Maan just jerked it off. "I will tell you guys...see, I am really in hurry...have so much to do in the limited time period...I really need to go" Maan hurriedly replied and left before getting tied by his friends. He love them dearly but right now, he needs to be somewhere else.
"What should I wear?" Geet mumbled while going through her hanging suits in the closet. More than half of the fancy dresses were still new. Untouched. But either, they were too flashy just as it's expected on newly married girls or were too plain, as per her casual taste. She took out three dresses she thought might will go along but then rejected it before throwing it away on the bed. The thing was, none of them were going on with the ones, she wanted to wear tonight. Right then, her phone buzzed with an incoming message. Sighing she turned around and held the phone only to see Dhruv's message.
"Have you reached safely?
Oh...how stupid...You must have reached safely but have you even looked at
the beautiful scenarios around or were too busy in drooling at your husband
;)"
Geet's cheeks reddened just by reading this mere message. Gosh! Can't Dhruv be
a little bit less expressive with his thoughts. She shook her head with a silly
grin before reply.
"Don't you worry about me...Concentrate on your road...;)"
"Ahaan..Now that's a scene that I would like to see every day" Geet
heard it from the back and turned to find Shaina, leaning against the door with
a heartwarming smile. "Shaina" Squealing with happiness, Geet took
quick steps before bringing Shaina in a heartwarming hug. Old Geet might have been
hesitant to even touch her fearing she might will lash out but during her
Dehradun trip, Shaina had been the silent support for Geet. Her good luck
messages before her each exam, her forwarded joke messages between all the
stresses really made her feel so relaxed. Plus, the new found Geet was more
confident now.
"I missed you" Shy whispered tightening her hold around her sister's
petite waist. "Missed you too" Geet whispered back. "But I bet
not more than me...Cause I have something really important to tell you" A
hidden excitement was dripping from Shaina's tone. "But Before
that...What's going on here?" Shaina eyed the clothes that were spread on
the bed and raise a brow. Geet flushed, not knowing how to explain. The feeling
was of a teenage girl who is planning a secret date with her boyfriend. Tucking
few strands behind her ear, Geet looked up, wetting her dry lips with her
tongue. "Actually...I...Wo...Maan..." Shaina frowned seeing Geet
struggling with the words. "Geet..." Shaina held her arm for support.
Geet looked up in her inquisitive eyes before sighing. "Wo Maan has asked
me out for dinner tonight...and...I...I was just checking the dresses" Her
voice merely was a whisper but Shaina did heard what she surly had to. "Oh
My God! Really...You are going out on a date" It was a shocker for
Shaina...Geet ...On...A...Date. "That's not a date" Geet closed her
eyes momentarily to shake. "It's just a dinner" She argued. But
Shaina heard none of it and just moved towards the bed to examine the dresses.
"What are you going to wear? God! It has to be super...Ewww...You are
wearing none of it..." Straight away rejecting the dresses, Shaina gave
her a look of finality before she got up and moved towards the door.
"Wait...I have something that you can wear...Just 2 minutes"
Geet took a deep breath seeing Shaina leaving. She knew that now Shaina will
only make sure that the dress she has, is the one she wears so putting the
other's back, she waited for her. Not much after, Shaina returned with a gift
wrapped box and gave it to her. "Open it" She pushed. Geet smiled
broadly and open the box to find a very beautiful netted anarkali dress.
"When we went to do shopping for the Aryan's cousin wedding in Manali, I
saw it...and I thought you will love it" Shaina explained as Geet took out
the dress completely and put it against herself to check the measurements.
Satisfied by it and more happy on getting a gift from Shaina, Geet hugged her
tightly before whispering a soft "Thank you...It means so much to me"
and it surly did. It was like a stamp on her thoughts that she has a sister
whom she can count on. "By the way...What you had to tell me?" Geet
inquired putting the dress away only to find Shaina blushing now while tucking
a strand behind her hair. She bit her lip before looking straight into Geet
eyes as she muttered. "I am expecting". Geet thought she heard it all
wrong but the shine in Shaina's eyes was too hard to miss and let that
assumption stay. "OH MY GOD!" It was now Geet squealing in happiness
as she covered her mouth with her fingers before pulling Shaina in the warmest
of hugs, the sisters ever shared.
"I want all of it to be done by 7pm" Maan warned while looking at the
clock that was striking 3pm. 4 hours. Just 4 hours he had in his hands to make
it one of the best evenings for his wife. After being done with his meeting, Maan
was back to his hotel. The Interior Decorator was summoned by him asap before
he made his way to his office floor. Interior Decorator Suhas was rushed in and
was quickly updated with the task, he has to perform. "Sir...time limit is
less" Suhas interrupted only to get glared by a fiery Maan. "I don't
care...Hire anyone you want...Get all the help you need...but I want it done
today in just 4 hours...Otherwise, see yourself out from this hotel" His
warning was all what Suhas needed before he excused and rushed out to call all
his contacts. Maan usually doesn't make someone work beyond their capacity but
he was not ready to hear any excuses this time. It was once in a life time
moment for him. His first date with his love. How could he make someone dare
not make it amazing upto his standards.
Shaina held the bowl having hot oil in one hand while sitting down on a stool as Geet massaged her hairs. "God! It's heaven...I don't remember when last time someone had given me such a relaxing massage" She sighed. Geet bit her lip knowing that Shaina must be missing her parents. "Have you talked to Chacha g and Chachi g and told them about your pregnancy?" Shaina just held Geet's hand that was on her forehead before pulling it to her neck. "Yes, I have talked to them but I haven't told them about my pregnancy yet...Even Aryan doesn't about it" And that was a shock for Geet. Coming infront, she held Shaina's chin and pulled it up to see her in eyes. "Why? Why have you not tell Aryan?" "Geet...*sigh and looked away* I don't know if he wants a baby now...Plus I still need to pay a visit to doctor to confirm...Would you come with me tomorrow?" Her pleading eyes made Geet's heart swell and she hugged her once again. "I surly will...Nothing brings more happiness to me than knowing that my sister is moving ahead in her life" Geet said with happiness. "Why don't you move ahead too..." Shaina questioned making Geet pull back herself. "It's not as easy..." Geet mumbled but was cut off by Shaina. "As if it was too easy for me..." Her tone was loud in frustration. Is Geet too blind to look at the happy future, all other's could clearly see. "If you remember...I too got married along with you to a total stranger that I didn't use to like...Atleast, you and Maan were friends then too...If Maan trying hard to change himself according to your taste than why can you not try and reciprocate his feelings...Any deaf person can look into his eyes and tell that his eyes shines with love for you. Any blind person can hear about his care towards you and easily pass a verdict that he is the perfect one for you...Why can't you see and hear his love..." Geet turned around not knowing what she can say in against to her words. Shaina calmed down and held her shoulders from the back before squeezing them lightly. "He is your husband Geet...Even if you agree it or not...He has rights on you which he is not ready to claim without your consent...Just once, give yourself up to him and you will see, he will take care of you for the rest of his life...He will never let you down...He will always take care of your smiles" Shaina pushed her to give their relationship a go and Geet could do nothing but to think it over. "OK enough discussions...Now lets get you ready for the evening...I myself am going to get you ready...this could be the perfect day that you can start analyze your feelings, my sister".
It was 6:15pm. Maan himself was taking care of the changes that were asked to be made by him. The workers were running around, making sure to hurry up. "Suhas, it will be done in 45 minutes...Isn't it?" Maan asked feeling jittery himself now. "Sir...we are trying our best" Suhas assured with bated heart, not wanting to infuriate Maan anymore. Maan nodded before looking once again at his watch. "I am leaving now...I will be back till 7:30...Please make sure everything is fine and No-one...I mean no one is here" Suhas nodded and took a sigh of relief on seeing Maan moving towards the door.
"And...That's the...Last one" Shaina said happily as she curled the last strand of hair and let it fall down in loose wave on her shoulder. Pinning up the front hairs, she gave a last look to her hairs before retouching her make up. "Shy...Now this is getting over board...It's just a plain dinner yaar" Geet argued but pushing her hands away, Shaina just kept on correcting her lipstick. "Purse your lips" She commanded and groaning, Geet just did as she was told. "Wow...Maan is surly gonna get flat seeing you tonight" Shaina quipped, making Geet go red. "Stop it". Geet tried to stop hear tease but Shaina couldn't help but chuckle. "You are falling for him aren't you?" She questioned but Geet kept mum, giving a silent indication. Getting behind her, Shaina loosely hugged her as she looked at Geet through mirror. "It's a lovely feeling Geet...Don't hesitate to accept it...as what Maan has to give to you...is what every girl craves...The care, attention, support and most important love...Don't give it all up for some unknown fear...talk to him...explain him and I assure you, he will push away all your doubts...he is the only one who can do that" Geet looked back finally and held her hand before nodding.
Rushing inside the home, Maan quickly changed himself into white suit with a light blue shirt underneath. He applied a bit of cologne, moved away towards the knob before stopping and getting back to the dresser to gel up his hairs. Gosh! He has never dressed up for some girl, never was interested in dating another girl. It was Her always...And he will always stays Her's.
Satisfied with his look, hoping that he might will be able to impress her, he get out of his room, only to feel his breath getting out with a whoosh. Standing infront was his lady love, all dressed up in beautiful blue anarkali and killing her with her mere innocent looks. For the first time, he found her adoring make up but it was only adding charms.
Feeling his gaze, Geet looked away, feeling hot in her cheeks. Her fingers were trembling as she held her dupatta and played with its end. No one noticed a smirking Shaina standing behind Geet, analyzing the silent exchange between the show and enjoying. But when till few minutes, no one said anything, she decided to butt in. "Aren't you getting late for dinner?" She quipped, making them both turn and give a forced smile. "Yeah...yeah...Let's go" Maan stuttered before giving way to Geet. Shaina saw it and winked at Maan before slowly wishing. "All the best"
Maan led Geet onto the top floor of his hotel, stealing glances all the way in the glass elevator. Geet felt it but showed herself being busy in checking the interiors of the hotel. Reaching up, Maan let Geet moved out first like a perfect gentleman before leading her inside to the covered swimming pool area which was reserved for the residents only otherwise. But the view today, was surly not experienced by anyone before. Inside was decorated beautifully for the night with shimmering lights. But what was more fascinating was the wooden pavement that was constructed over the swimming pool and was leading it to a wooden deck where a table for two was beautifully set. Maan approved of it by seeing her fascinated look. His hotel's interior designer has done wonders in just few hours."You like it??" He asked smiling at her as she looked around in daze."Its beautiful... " She whispered still in awe.
No one has ever made her feel so special in her life. "Hmmm.." He rubbed his temple lightly looking down tapping one of his shoes.. "Please.." He lead her in front towards the swimming pool. Geet felt bubbles bursting in her stomach. Her fingers were shaky. Her whole body was humming an unknown tune..She didn't move for a while, kept looking at the arrangement, he has made over the swimming pool for their dinner...A sense of current ran down her as his cold hand clasped her's and took a step forward..leading her onto the wooden path where candles were burning o both sides. He was making her feel like a princess while Maan complemented her by matching steps just like a royal King. Pulling out the chair, he made her sit comfortably before taking his position infront. "So??.." He led out a deep breath smiling at her.. "How did you manage it? I mean...It's...It's just like a scene out from a fairy book" she complimented still mesmerized by it all. "Maybe I want you to have some real fairy experience" He bit his lower lip. She blushed and looked around when finally her eyes fell on a side of the room where a huge table was set. She could see the steel covered pots and the burning candles underneath. "Buffet?" She asked baffled. "hmmm.." He nodded relaxing his back at the seat post, capturing her each action in his mind... "Let me remind you of a story.. " He pressed his lips together remembering it himself with a smile before continuing.."A story where.. while building a tree house someone painted her own fairy tales stories onto the wooden walls.. " He gave her a side loop smile sending her in one of the days where she was happy, chirpy and with her friends.. A day where while building a tree house she told her friend how she imagine fairy tales and how she wish to have a fairy day..Once again her eyes moved around and widen up more.. somewhat it was same she had narrated once.."Along with it...I didn't want anyone...to... interrupt us" He caught her attention back, making her cheeks turned scarlet. "You still remember everything I said ...first the room and now..." "I guess its not in my hands.. I remember all and everything about you!" "Every single detail!" He added giving her a look she felt sizzled by. "Above it, all through the years...I had nothing to keep but those memories to rewind and cherish" His words was making her fidgeted now. "I am hungry ...Can we go ahead with dinner?" she asked, avoiding this discussion for a bit. "Is this a way to change the topic??" He arched his eyebrow.."Maan...Please..." She pleaded.. "Stop Running Geet!!" He said in a bit frustration.. "I am not running away Maan...It's...it's just that..." She got silence, not knowing how to explain him anymore. He sigh... "Lets go have dinner.." He smiled.
The food was ordered taking in view of her choice. He never felt to amaze her. she also found few thai dishes that she has started to like in university days. One of her friends would order in the uni some food that the group would share. "I don't think I even liked it till I was 14. How do you know about them?" She inquired with a raise brow, making him bit his lip. "I had connections who knew about this recent development" He said, making her frown with narrow eyes before she gave a sweet small smile and whispered. "Dhruv". Taking in few of everything, she added some salad into her plate and saw him moving forward his one too. "Put it for me too... Please" He requested, moving a bit closer behind her."Ahmm.." looking at his face for a while, she raised her shoulders and added some in his plate too.. "Enough??" She asked.."hmmm" He hummed, liking the proximity between them. More than the physical one, this act looked like one of a lovely wife who serves her husband. just the thought made him smile inside in his cheek before he moved away and took hold of two 7up cans. "Maan...Coke for me...Please" She murmured still busy in serving some curd. And this absence minded order made him feel elated. The causality was slowly seeping into the relation. Taking few steps, the both walked back towards the table and settled down once again...She started her food and he was still managing with his spoon and fork when his gaze fell on her.. "What do you actually think about me Geet??" He asked out of the blue making her stop..
"Maan" That was a breathless sigh. "I've been wondering about this since long!! I want to know.." He gave her a deep look.. She pulled her hands away from the table dropping her spoon n fork in the plate with a clattering sound. Her eyes were fixed down in her lap as she weighted her words, thought and analyze it before speaking. "It's difficult for me Maan...I mean, It had been difficult to me...After I left Delhi, left you guys, all I had was mom to stick on to...She gulped and took a deep breathe before explaining her life in depth. "Nana made mom get married to Baba...He was a nice man...He was once married but never had any child so in those two years of our togetherness, he showered all that love on me, helped me make comfortable with his presence" Geet leaned back while remembering those days. "But after his passing away, when were asked to move in with Grandpa, Mom told me that I shouldn't complain to anyone but her about any problems" "Grandpa was not that friendly towards me from ever...and few months later, Shaina was called from US by him...The amount of love he showered on her, I never felt an inch of it for me...But mom told me, consoled me saying that Shaina is my younger sister that I wanted all along...and I have to act as the elder one... I accepted it...Anyhow, Mom love was enough...but after few months, She told me about her cancer..." Maan felt the sadness in her tone. He wanted to console her but today, he also wanted to let all that grief get out from her system. "It felt that my only resource of love was also going to be take away from me...After her, I tried and tried to get even a drop of love from him...but he plainly rejected me...blamed me for his son death...his family was dishonored cause of my presence at each party cause I wasn't his own...I was a step daughter...and slowly I started to move into my shell...the thing now is that Maan..." She finally looked up. "I am too afraid of rejections now...My whole self-confidence was brutally shaken up by others that I don't think I could love someone without fearing what one day or other, they will leave me too" The thin line of fear was clearly visible in her eyes and Maan could see it. "I will never..." He tried to assure her but was cut off by her. "I was waiting for my best friend, hoping one day, I will get to meet him instead I found him as...as my...'husband'" and that was the first time, she openly said that word infront of him. For the first time, he found her accepting his status in her life. Maan observed the pain in her voice all through her speech. If he could, he would just rewind the clock back to the past and help her, rescue her from all those insults, all those abuses and keep her secure in his arms. He could be a joker to make her smile. He could make the whole world his enemy, just to keep her friendship.
Standing up, he moved around the table before he knelt down beside her and held her hands, which were resting in her lap before. "How do you want me to be with you like??" He looked in her eye, assuring her that her wishes will be answered. But she saw it. The tears swimming inside his black orbs that she knew were for her. He was teary for all the agony, torture that she went through. For not being there to give her his shoulder when she wanted to cry on. And at that moment, she knew, she just can't disregard his feelings anymore. She just can't excused herself to not love him back. Shaina's words from earlier rang in the back of her mind that provided another push to her to go and hug the beautiful coming life.
Looking back into his eyes, she moved up her hand to cup his face, to touch him voluntary for the first time, making him elated. She licked her lips before whispering. "Be yourself Maan...You are perfect the way you are...I always want you as a friend...And I know, that soon..." The ending was abrupt but if that look was anything that she passed to him, he knew, his hopes are going to get fulfilled. Soon, very soon. A smile popped up on his face that was mirroring in her eyes. "Are you falling for me?" He questioned with a mischievous tone, making her blush before she looked away and get hold of the spoon once again. "Let's finish our dinner...I so don't want to waste any of it" She whispered, making him chuckle. Running his heart beat on a faster pace, all she wanted was to devour the food. She is so His craze.
