Another fashion show on 'Kkusum'

After a ramp walk with female models, Sony's Kkusum gears up for a fashion show with male models for a one hour special that airs this Sunday.

The new 'Kkusum' family bonds well

Sony seems to be really pushing Kkusum, ever since Shilpa Saklani stepped in as a replacement to Manasi Joshi Roy. Apart from leads Anuj Saxena and Shilpa Saklani making an appearance soon on Batliwalla House No 43, we now hear that the channel has now roped in models Shayan Munshi, Vivan Bathena, Shahwar Ali, among others to walk the ramp for a 'fashion show' that's organised by Abhay Kapoor's daughter Kali in Shimla.

We also hear that Shilpa Saklani, the new Kkusum, will follow Kali to the show and will herself be followed to the venue by Abhay himself. The meeting will be picturised with the Shah Rukh Khan - Rani Mukherjee starrer 'Chalte Chalte' title track.

These developments, we believe, will unfold in the one hour special episode this Sunday. And if the plot proceeds as per the penned script thus far, Amit Sareen, who plays Kshitij, also stands a chance of being bumped off soon.

And do not be surprised if you see Amar Upadhyay making his long promised entry in a Balaji show in the same episode. So, are we looking at a love triangle between Shilpa, Amar and Anuj? Since the focus seems to have shifted away from the younger generation, that's the only inference we can come to. How about you?

Rohit was first choice for Kasauti role

Busy body: Rohit Roy

The news that Amar Upadhyay secured a role in Balaji's Kasautii Zindagi Kay (Star Plus) is old. However, little does anyone know that the original choice for the role was Rohit Roy.

Roy who's currently seen in Sarrkkar (Zee) as Karan Pratap Singh was the first choice for the role now essayed by Upadhyay. If that had worked out he would be playing brother to his real life sibling Ronit Roy for a second time. Confirming this Roy says, "Yes I was approached for the role."

Explaining why he didn't do the role he said, "There were a couple of things that didn't work out. I didn't have the requisite dates and another was the money offered."

Balaji Telefilm's head honcho Ekta Kapoor however maintains, "We had some issues with the dates. It isn't anything major. I look forward to working with him in the future."

Sources close to Roy say that the actor is currently having talks with Ekta and discussing other possibilities.

A cautious Roy while not denying this, said,"I think it's too premature to reveal anything about the discussion. All I can say is that both of us are keen to work with each other and in the future something may be worked out."

Roy has earlier worked with Balaji on Kkusum, where he played the lead role of Abhay Kapoor now played by Anuj Saxena.

These days the actor is busy shooting for Zee's Sarrkkar, Dance Divas on Zoom and he will also appear on the big screen in Ek Hasina Ek Khiladi with Fardeen and Koena Mitra.

"I am a die hard Balaji guy"- Akashdeep

Ansh aka Akashdeep will star in a fresh Star Plus soap to be produced by Balaji Telefilms. Although the long tressed actor has been switching channels rapidly ever since he got killed at Tulsi's hands in Kyunki... six months, he appears to be quite happy with his decision.

Akashdeep and the team of time bomb

He hasn't moved out of the Balaji fold though, he maintains. His track in Sony's Kkusum may not be going great guns, and for now, he may seem firmly entrenched in Ketan Mehta's Time Bomb, but Ekta's production house is still dear to Akash.

"I don't like playing negative characters," declares the guy whose positive roles always seem to take on negative overtones as the script moves ahead. "But I love to be compared to Amrish Puri or Amjad Khan," he grins his wicked smile.

"I always thought 'Gabbar' was Amjad Khan's real name, I never knew his real name till a very long time. That's the kind of effect a character should have on the audience. I see kids on the street calling out to me as 'Ansh.' This role is different from the one that I have done for Kyunki….as it was a mean character which was crafted, there was a motive but no justification. In

Akashdeep: "we love to hate you"

Time Bomb there are no emotions, but Ussman, my character, has a mission which he needs to accomplish by hook or by crook.

Akashdeep today seems a contented actor, yet itching to take on that experimental role that will allow him to explore his histrionic skills further.

Says he,"I feel proud when people say we love to hate you." Way to go, Akash!

Is Amar Upadhyay picking at dregs?

Amar Upadhyay, the hearthrob who once stole millions of hearts with his portrayal of Mihir in Kyunki, will be back on two Balaji serials shortly, months after confirming his readiness to enter the Ekta Kapoor camp once again. The cute looking actor will play Ronit Roy's brother in Kasautii Zindagi Kay and a doc in Kkusum. That Rohit Roy was the original choice to play reel sibling to his real bro is now known, but not many know that the role of doc in Kkusum is believed to be originally offered to Rajeev 'Sujal' Khandelwal.

'I wanted an action hero with a heart'
Amar: happy with 'hand me downs'

On being asked if he knew he was not the original choice to play both characters, Amar shot back, "I wasn't the original choice to play Mihir either. The role originally went to a model by the name of Jimmy Gandhi. He shot on the mahurat on 7 April 2002. He continued to shoot on 8 and 9 April 2002. I shot on 10 April and was in."

We asked Amar about Rajeev being offered the role of the doctor before him in Kkusum and to our surprise, we realised that Amar knows Rajeev Khandelwal only as Sujal and had no idea who was offered the role in the beginning.

This is not all. Rohit rejected the role in Kasautii... because of monetary reasons.
"The money didn't work out. Where there is creativity, there is firework", says Rohit. Meanwhile, Rajeev maintains a stern, "I don't want to comment" on the issue.

Co-incidentally, Rajeev wasn't the first choice to play the role of Varun, in Ketan Mehta's Time Bomb. This role was initially offered to Rohit.

"I didn't take it up because I am doing Sarrkkar," Rohit spells. Does this fact now defy Ketan Mehta's instinct
'I wanted an action hero with a heart' for choosing Rajeev to play the undercover intelligence officer? Also
if Rohit wouldn't have refused to play Varun, what would Rajeev have left with?

So didn't Amar the Mr. Charming didn't mind taking up leftovers? "Not at all! As long as I am getting good work, I have no qualms whatsoever. So to say, neither was Shah Rukh Khan the original choice to play the obsessed lover in Yash Chopra's Darr."

Amar is quite enthused about his roles. "I have signed a year's contract to do Kasautii…. But the role in Kkusum as a doctor is a cameo (though he is hopeful that the role does extend). I am very happy with the look they have given me in Kkusum. I wear a polo neck shirt and specs and the backdrop is the landscape of Shimla. It looks very much like Shah Rukh Khan in Mohabbatein," says Amar.

The young actor is probably still not the original choice on the producer's mind, but one only hopes that this hunk gets his way soon.

Mere papa wonderful"

It is generally the baby's day out. For a change we at Telly Chakkar wish to give importance to the clan who are forgotten to be mentioned about. The reason, as the ladies take away all the importance. In a gupshup with us the stars from the tellydom share how they would make their fathers special on 'father's day'.

Anuj with his dad on the launch of Maverick

Abhay aka Anuj Saxena of the Kkusum fame, says, "Well this is a very western culture, and neither do I believe in it nor does my dad. So there is nothing special for me to do for my dad." When he is asked what is that one thing that he thinks his father, Jagdish Saxena has given him? He smiles, "He is the one who has given me everything. He started as a very normal human being. I wish if I could be half the man of what he is. He has been my guide throughout. I was lucky enough to be born with a platinum spoon."

Sai: I plan to have a blast

The newly wed Sai from Saara Akash feels her dad, cinematograhper Deboo Deodhar to be very special for her. And this year it is going to be made all the more special as she will have both her father and her father-in-law to celebrate with. She believes her dad has two children this time that's her and Shakti. "We plan to go out of Mumbai and have a blast. My father has taught me integrity, love and whether one has money or no, just be the way you are, and always be associated with good work. I consider myself to be lucky to have a father like him since he has never had any ego hassles."

Shama: Daddy, I owe it all to you

The sexy and the witty Anu alias Swetta of Des Mein…. says, "I hope I am not shooting so that I can cook a nice meal for my dad, Suresh Chander Keswani. This will give me an opportunity to spend sometime with him." She affirms that her father has only taught her to be determined, ambitious and give her heart and soul to whatever she does. He supports me but at the same time he has never dictated his terms on me. And I think that is the best part."

Swetta: I'll cook something nice for him

Ballu balle balle… Gaurav Chopra, better known as Ruby Duby Hub Dub's Ballu uncle misses Swatantra Chopra, his father who is away from him. He says, "I will gift him a gold pen when I meet him next. He has always taught me to strike a balance between lives. He believes to dream big and reach the top, but at the same time never to forget our roots. He has been my inspiration thoroughly and I always look up to him for whatever I do."

Simpleton Shama Sikander from Ye Meri… is quite baffled as to what she will do for her dad but she wants to give him a surprise. "My father has always taught me to have will-power and stick to values. And I am grateful to him for teaching me all this. Dad this ones for you: everything I do I owe it all to you."

The light eyed chocolate boy, Chetan from Kkusum wishes to give his dad a big hug and plan something nice for him. "He is the most special man who has taught me to be patient and hard working. I have been really lucky because my dad has never forced me to do something I never wanted to do."

That's my daddy dearest!

You may have seen them with their screen fathers on the telly night after night, but on the occasion of Father's Day tomorrow, hitList takes you to meet their real fathers as these daddy's girls recount those memories that linger on about  their dads

Juhi Parmar (Kumkum of Kumkum  — Ek Pyaara Sa Bandhan) and Devendra Parmar

Papa is general manager, Reid &Taylor, and is currently based in Mysore though Jaipur is our hometown. I am papa's weakness; he can't see tears in my eyes --- so whatever I ask for I get.

The fondest memories I have is when he would take me to the revolving restaurant in Jaipur.  I loved to get a bird's eye-view of the city. In 1997, he gifted me a German Shepherd whom I call Bosky  —- this is the best gift I have received from him.

Chavvi Mittal
(Disha of Tumhari Disha) and Devendra Mittal

My papa is a businessman in Gurgaon. My fondest memory of him is the unparalleled support he has shown me during my initial days.

I wanted to be a singer since the age of seven and used to go for my classes. I remember him coming with me and waiting patiently outside giving me encouragement.

Also when I became an anchor and started my television career he boosted my morale and told me I can make it.

Shama Sikander
(Pooja of Ye Meri Life Hai) and Sikander Ali Gesawat

My papa is from Rajasthan and in the marble business. My folks tell me that when I was born, dad took me iin his arms and whistled at me. I gave him a broad grin.

Since then whenever he whistled, I would run to him. Even if he's far away and I hear that trademark whistle I can instantly recognise it's him.

Komolika Guha Thakurta
(Gayatri of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi) and Nirup Guha Thakurta

Baba has retired from the advertising world; he was with the HTA and is based in Kolkata.

The faith that Baba has in me, his trust and his love has been my greatest strengths.

Till date, whatever decisions I have taken have been with the hope that I will not let Baba down. I may not have been the ideal daughter always, but Baba has been the best father that anyone can have.

From taking me for walks in the rain, to assuring me that maths was not such a dreaded subject, to always taking time out for vacations, to standing outside the gates of the exam hall, to holding my hand when I was a nervous bride, to standing by my side when I was having my baby — Baba has always been there for me.

Till date a smile from him, a pat on the back is all that I need to take on the world. I'd just like to tell him — I love you Baba!

Papa kehte hain...

Some more of daddy's little girls!

1. Kulraj Randhawa (Kareena of Kareena Kareena) and Col S.S Randhawa

My dad is a retired army officer and is from Chandigarh. Even though I am a girl, he never treated me like one. He considered me to be like his son.

He told me to be independent and try different things in life. I remember when I was in 7th or 8th standard we had a flat tyre on our way to some place.

He made me change the tyre and taught me how to do it. He also told me how to be a sharp shooter. I admire him for the way he's bought me up and I think a lot of my confidence is basically because of the way he brought me up.

2. Tassnim Sheikh (Mohini of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi) and Abrar Hussain

My dad has always been in Mumbai. He's a retired electrical engineer. I remember as a kid he used to make it a point to drop me to school. Till my 12th standard he made sure he accompanied me to school.

During the rains, he would carry me on his shoulder and hold an umbrella in the other hand. I loved the monsoons and recall how I would play with the raindrops as they fell on my hand. Also, I would wait for my day at school. I waited for school to end just so I could go see him.

3. Mona Singh (Jassi) with Colonel Jasbir Singh

Papa has retired from army life and is based in Pune. I have always been my father's daughter — pampered and spoilt.

For just about anything, I would always run to him. I have had this great bond with my father.

In fact my older sister would always say that she was the adopted child as papa would always pamper me.

4. Swetta Keswani and Suresh Chander Keswani

Dad is an engineer who is retired now. He used to work in an engineering firm which required him to travel wherever the company took on new projects.

Once he was stationed in Baghdad and we were on an outing. I was wearing these new shoes that squeaked whenever I walked. I was so scared of the noise as I thought a rat was behind me!

So, I made him carry me all around. I also recall the time I argued with him about the spelling of laugh. I insisted laugh was spelt as 'laf'. I annoyed him to the point that he had to slap me!

5. Aashka Goradia (Kumud of Kkusum) and Dhimant Goradia

My papa is in the infrastructure business based in Ahmedabad. The memory that always lingers on in my mind is of my father on the day of my class 10 results.

He was so worked up about my score that he paced up and down in the house till he saw my results — I had secured 83 per cent! Only then could he relax. Even today, I still can't forget papa's face and expressions that day.

Kkusum's Kali to be sued by Balaji

Rucha Gujarati
For the first time in the history of Indian television, Ekta Kapoor is suing actress Rucha Gujarati (Kali in Kkusum) for breach of contract.

Rucha's one-year contract (which she signed in December 2004) stated that she would allot 25 days a month to Balaji and would not shoot for other TV serials. But the actress disregarded the clause and shot for UTV's Bhabhi, where she plays Saroj's daughter (Dolly Sohi).

"Yes, we are preparing a legal notice against Rucha, which will be sent next week," confirms Ekta. Why not resolve the matter out of court? "I wish to set an example. If all my artistes start giving their dates away to other serials, I won't have dates for my serials," says Ekta.

All newcomers who join Balaji have to sign one or two-year contracts, stipulating the working days allotted to Balaji — and the standard clause that they cannot shoot for other serials.

Ekta Kapoor
Says a Balaji source, "We train raw newcomers, and other production houses then want to take them away. Artistes, once they become established, want to earn as much money as possible and start working two shifts, which is quite impossible.

A contract is a way of ensuring that such clashes don't occur. We already have to adjust dates with senior artistes, and if newcomers too start having date problems, we would never be able to shoot any serial."

Rucha, currently shooting in Mauritius, says, "There was a problem initially, with my UTV dates and Balaji dates clashing.

But the misunderstanding has been sorted out. Both production houses have been accommodating and adjusting, and I am grateful for it.

My contract with Balaji states that I can shoot for other serials; I have to allot them 20 plus five days here and there," explains the actress. "I am extremely grateful to Ekta for giving me a break and my first priority will always lie with her."

Rucha is unaware of the legal notice. For Ekta, the issue is unresolved, as UTV is not willing to get involved in the matter and going to court seems the only solution.
