Chapter 12
The entire royal family stood silent as Kunwar Jagmal dressed as a daas holding a small cloth bag with his few belongings he was allowed to take stood with Dhaman Singh while DheerBai also dressed as a commoner kept staring at her son - her son who was supposed to become the future Rana of Mewar was standing before her dressed like a servant. If any stranger was to see him then for them he would be a servant and not a Kunwar
RajPurohitji said a prayer and gave him a beads necklace and told him to recite the mantra Om Namah Shivay 108 times daily and then gave him tasks he was required to finish. HE was to live like an ordinary citizen and work to earn his food and then he was to handle all his personal chores himself as well and not take any help from anyone
Jagmal numbly nodded his head totally lost in his thoughts of the future - he could see himself cleaning the floors, bathing the animals and doing all chores which he deemed below his status earlier and now...
RP: Kunwar Jagmal?
On getting no response from Jagmal Dhaman Singh shook him a little breaking him out of his dreams and Jagmal looked at his family staring at him with pity in their eyes when Dhaman Singh speaks up
DS: I assure you I will personally see to it that Kunwar Jagmal performs all his tasks on time regularly RajPurohitji
RP: You are very lucky to have someone like Dhaman Singh taking care of you Kunwar Jagmal
Jagmal nods his head and they leave while the others also go back except DheerBai who keeps staring at the retreating form of her son.
Jagmal was staring at the man with him like he had lost his mind while Dhaman Singh was thoroughly enjoying seeing the tortured young man with him
DS: This is your new living quarters Kunwar Jagmal
JM: This is the servant's quarter
DS: As per RajPurohitji's instructions you are to live here and perform all the tasks required of you. I will show you where the cleaning materials, utensils are kept so that you do not have any problems
JM: There is no bed here
DS: You are to sleep on the floor. The bedding is kept rolled in that corner and I will come by regularly to check up on you. Now I need to leave as I have to assist everyone is preparing for their trip
JM: Why can I not go with them to Bijolia?
DS: Because you are required to observe fasts and perform puja regularly and sincerely for the coming days so that whatever harm stands in your way is delayed till Ajabde Baisa agrees to help us out. Now rest for a while as you need to be in the temple in the evening for your first task
JM: This all my great RaniMa's fault. She deliberately hurt that princess of Bijolia and I'm paying the price for her misdeeds.
Chapter 13
Everyone was ready for the trip to Bijolia dressed as simple commoners the royal family left for Bijolia - the ladies went in a cart while the men were on horses along with a few soldiers disguised as commoners as well. As they neared the borders of Bijolia they all took in the drastic changes that had occurred in the last few years - the once well paved path was just a rocky way surrounded by wild bushes on both sides. The path was dry like not a single drop of water had fallen on that barren earth for some time. Ranaji took in the surroundings along with Rawatji and Pratap when Chakrapani spoke up: There are no soldiers here- not one security check post and I cannot see Mewar's flag anywhere near us
They all nod their heads when one of the soldiers points the green flags seen in the distance when all of a sudden they hear horse hooves and all them are surrounded by people dressed in white with red waistbands with their faces hidden and swords drawn out
One of them asks: Who are you?
Rawatji: We are merely travellers seeking a shelter my friend. We heard that Bijolia was nearby so we just wanted to take a break in their market place and stock up on necessities
Man: Travellers may I ask where are you coming from?
Rawatji: Chittor
Man laughs a sarcastic laugh: Are you sure you are travelling and not thrown out of Mewar? They are quite famous for kicking people out of their homes you know
The words hit hard on the family when a voice joined and said I know them very well. It was Lakhan one of the spies
Lakhan: They looked after me and my friend when we went to meet Rana Uday Singh
Man: Alright then Bhai Lakhan kindly escort them to Bijolia while we patrol the borders as you can see the Afghans are making a move (points at the green flags)
Lakhan nods his head and they proceed to Bijolia. He looks at the men and shakes his head as they make their way to the main gates. He looks at them and says: A lot has changed in the last 8yrs kindly do not and I mean it do NOT try to look for some similarities
The gates open and everyone is stunned - the once hustling bustling city was now all silent with people quietly doing their work even the children were quiet as if all them were waiting for a signal of some sorts. The usual market place was closed down with only a one or two shops open that to selling only the bare necessities. It was like the once glorious state of Bijolia was gone leaving behind mere structures but it was the palace that caught JB's eye and as she got down from the cart she walked towards it when an elderly lady stopped her mid-way
Old lady: Baisa Forgive me but where are you headed off to?
JB: I was hoping to meet with Hansa Baiji (she points towards the palace)
The lady looks at her with pity in her eyes she asks her to come with her and takes her back to where her family was and then says: Are you new here?
They nod their head she looks at JB and answers her unasked question: The palace is empty no one lives there anymore Baisa.
