Ship.. Anchor.. -Ship wreck..  - Symbolism

The shipwreck of all my hopes   ,the sunken ship.. relating to  The destruction of a ship, as by storm or collision. The remains of a wrecked ship. 2. A complete failure or ruin.

The Anchor:  The Anchor - As A Symbol

"One who has control over the mind
is tranquil in heat and cold,
in pleasure and pain,
and in honor and dishonor."

- Bhagavad Gita

The Anchor is a Symbol of both Hope and steadfastness.

When we look at an Anchor we see that it is a cross resting upon,
and securely balanced within, a crescent moon or bowl.

The cross has four points, and the number four represents matter.
Furthermore, the crossed lines of the cross represent spirit (the
vertical line) united with matter (the horizontal line). Hence, the
cross represents an individuals personal Incarnation. The cross
is a masculine Symbol which includes a person's Thoughts,
Actions, and consciousness.

The crescent moon, or bowl, is a feminine Symbol which
represents the womb. The feminine also includes intuition,
Emotions, and the Subconscious.

Therefore the Anchor is a Symbol for an individuals personal
Incarnation which is supported by, and rests within, their emotions,
intuition, and Subconscious.

With these Thoughts in mind, let us now explore the meaning of
the Anchor as a Symbol of Hope and steadfastness.

As a Symbol of Hope:

The rising Anchor is a Symbol for Hope. This is alluded to,
metaphorically, whenever we say that "our hopes are rising".

When a ship weighs, or raises, its Anchor it tells everyone that
it is leaving its current port-of-call and is on its way to a new
voyage, a new Adventure.

This is a metaphor for how each one of us feel when we finally
Decide to leave a stagnant portion of our life behind us in order
to begin a new journey, voyage, or Adventure.

We raise our Anchor and venture forth into a new era of our life.
We feel eager and alive and we are laden with Hope, excitement,
dreams, expectations, imaginings and aspirations. Our Spirit feels
light and free as we face the cleansing breezes which take us
to our next port-of-call.

The Hope we carry with us on our new voyage encourages us to
follow the course we have plotted out and carry out the plans
we have made. We are steadfast in our vision of the pursuit of
our new Dream.

Our new Hope prevents us from drifting in confusion as our
Thought processes are now focused on new Dreams, creations
and ideas.

Our new Hope keeps us focused on our vision, the Horizon,
where our new life, and new Adventure, awaits us. The Time of
planning is over and the Time of Action, and new experiences,
is now upon us.

**************************************************************

As a Symbol for steadfastness:

The moment we drop our mental Anchor is the moment when we
Become steadfast in a Decision-making process. It is the moment
when we finally say to ourselves "here is where I stand" and "these
are the rules I will govern myself by".

This is expressed, metaphorically, when a ship drops its Anchor.
At that moment the ship becomes moored to a particular location
from which it will not move until the Time once again arrives for it
to sail at a moment of its own Choosing.

When a ship drops Anchor it grounds itself, and secures itself, to
a certain spot from which it will not move. It stabilizes itself from
the waves, tides, currents and various other movements which the
sea may throw at it.

Just as a ship that is not firmly Anchored is at the mercy of all
of the elements of the sea, so too is a person who is not firmly
Anchored at the mercy of all of the elements of chaos, hysteria
and uncertainty which surround him, or her.

Nearly every one of us has had at least one moment in our life
when we were absolutely, positively sure of a Decision we had
to make even though everyone around us doubted us and
screamed at us that we were wrong.

In this moment our certainty proved to be correct even though
we may not have been able to put our certainty into Words.

These kinds of Decisions can only be made by a person who
is firmly Anchored.

When we are properly Anchored we are able to trust confidently
in the skills and knowledge which lie latently concealed deep
within us. Skills and knowledge which lie in the subconscious
realm of our inner-self; our God-within; our Atman.

This confidence, self-assuredness, and trust in oneself is the result
of solid, secure and verifiable conclusions, clarity of Awareness,
and Lessons learned from Past experiences.

When we act with such steadfastness we are not being simply
stubborn; we are securely Anchored and are acting with positive
Arrogance and true knowing.

When we are properly Anchored we are able to remain steadfast,
sure and steady; we are able to "hold fast" during emotional,
unstable and confusing Times; we are able to steady ourselves
during our weakest moments and most trying experiences; we
are able to confidently maintain stability, firmness and tranquility
within and amidst all of the chaotic emotions which are tossing
themselves all around us.

On the other hand, when we are not sure of ourselves, or when
we are in a situation which is foreign and strange to us, we find
ourselves adrift and at the mercy of the tides and currents which
toss us to and fro and we say to ourselves "let's try this" or "let's
try that", unsure of what will work and what will not work;

Motifs

Drowning

As the narrator attempts to capture the men's thoughts as they endure many demoralizing episodes, he inserts a refrain into the text three times that suggests that the men's general fear of death is exacerbated by the unconcern of nature. The refrain is a rant against fate, which the narrator personifies as an incompetent fool unable to govern men's lives. The narrator is not really trying to tell us that fate is cruel. Instead, he is suggesting that the men are furious because they believe that fate has toyed with their lives. The men consider their situation unfair, and in the refrain, they protest against it. The fact that the narrator intrudes on the story with this refrain at the moments when fate seems to have let the men down creates the impression that this is, in fact, the men's reaction. The refrain acts as the narrator's interpretation of how the men themselves interpret their situation

Hidden deeper in the refrain is the narrator's conviction that a higher power does not exist to weigh in on men's affairs. By making outright references to "the seven mad gods who rule the sea," the narrator clues us in to the mythical implications of the story, insinuating that these pagan gods, who are traditionally involved in men's lives, have abandoned the stranded men. More important, the narrator hints at the absence of an overseeing God through a subtle use of numerology. The thrice-repeated phrase "If I am going to be drowned" in the refrain alludes to the New Testament Gethsemane scene in which Peter denies Jesus three times. In the Bible, man denies God, but Crane inverts the scene so that it is God denying man.

Waves

A ceaseless presence in the story and constant nuisance to the refugees, the ocean waves suggest both the forces of nature and uncontrollability of life. At the beginning of the story, the narrator presents the waves as the men's primary concern, the thing they must master if they are to survive the shipwreck. In this sense, the waves resemble the ever-changing demands of the present, the part of life that demands the most attention but allows for the least reflection. Crane seems to imply that because the men cannot control the waves' ebb and flow, man in general cannot affect the outcomes of his life and can hope only to respond constructively to what he encounters. Just as the waves are constantly changing, becoming sometimes violent and sometimes favorable, the pressures in man's life will continue to jostle his progress toward whatever he seeks. The narrator's final mention of the waves as "pacing to and fro" emphasizes this point by suggesting that the waves, in their motion, are impatiently waiting for the men, who must eventually venture out again onto the seas of fortune.

Symbols

The Boat or ship.

The boat, to which the men must cling to survive the seas, symbolizes human life bobbing along among the universe's uncertainties. The boat, no larger than a bathtub, seems even smaller against the vastness of the ocean. The boat is inconsequential and always in danger of capsizing, much as we as humans are inconsequential and frail in the context of the world around us. The fact that the boat is characterized as "open" supports this interpretation: the boat is unprotected and thus open to suffering the unexpected turns of fortune that are unavoidable in life. For the men, being in the open boat becomes the reality of their lives, and they realize from their experience on the boat how little control they have over where they can go and what they can do. Through the boat, Crane implies that life is not something we can control, but rather life is what we must hang onto as we make our way in the world.

The Oiler's Death

The oiler's death and lack of explanation surrounding it reinforce the randomness of nature's whims and symbolize the indifference of nature toward man. Because he is no more deserving of death than any other crew member, and in some cases is less deserving because he has worked the hardest under the most physical strain, his death highlights the fact that nature is arbitrary in how it chooses its victims. The events surrounding the oiler's death also uncover the fact that the "subtle brotherhood of men" sensed by the crew is nothing more than a delusion. The men make a break for land on their own, and the good-natured oiler leaves everyone behind to reach the shore. In this way, Crane illustrates that there is a limit to what working together can accomplish and that all men ultimately end up alone.

CONCLUSION ..

NA IS SUNKEN SHIP.. SHLOK IS THE ANCHOR.. ARAV CHOWDRY MIGHT BE THE WAVES WHO WILL SHAKE VARAD AND COMPLETE AI .. NA TO COMEBACK ,SHLOK SHOULD BE THE ANCHOR AND SAVE HIM..

Your conclusion at the end was very deep and thoughtful! πŸ‘πŸΌ NA is really a sunken ship now all lost, bobbing on the waves, not finding any place to anchor, but yes the three of them will save him, Shlok will provide anchor but he will also give him the silent treatment...

In the end i must say that keep posting on symbolism Deeps, i'm loving it! πŸ€—
