"We're not divorced. Humne talak ke papers sign hi nahi kiye. I never signed them."
"So we are separated, it's the same thing." Sagarika folded her arms.
"Nahi, yeh ek hi baat nahi hai. Lawfully hum aur aap abhi bhi pati patni hai. Alag ho jaane se rishte khatam nahi hote." Bunty said.
"Aur sirf naam ke pati-patni hojanese rishte nahi judte." Sagarika retorted. "Aap kya chahte the Bunty? Main wahi rehke, eventually ammaji aur apse nafrat karne lagu? I was hurt, Bunty, very hurt. Aur jab main sochti hoon uske baareme, I get hurt all over again. Lekin Maine kabhi kissise nafrat nahi ki. Main aaj bhi apse utna hi pyaar karti hoon, aur ammaji ki izzat bhi."
Floored by her confession, Bunty took a step forward. "Hum bhi to apko pagalon ki tarah pyaar Karte hain." He raised his arms to embrace her but was stunned when she took a step backwards, and raised her hand signaling him to stop.
"Maine kabhi apke pyaar ko question nahi kiya. Him dono ek dusrese bahat pyaar Karte hain. No doubt about it. Lekin hamara rishta kabhi kamiyaab nahi ho sakta." Sagarika gave a sad smile.
"Dekho Sagarika, amma---"
"Nahi Bunty, don't bring ammaji into this. Unki koi galati nahi hai, not in our marriage." Sagarika interrupted. "Shaadi do logo ke beech hoti hai. Aapke aur mere beech hui thi. Yeh kamiyaab hoti, to hamari wajah se. Nakamiyaab hui hai to bhi hamari wajah se: aapki aur meri."
Bunty and Sagarika continued to stare at each other.
"Thik hai kamiyaab nahi hui hamari shaadi, aur mana gunehgaar hum aur aap hai. Lekin yehi baat aap 3 saal pehle bhi to bol sakti thi. We could have resolved it then. Aap chodkar gayi, wo bhi seedhe london."
"Aur nahi to kya karti?" A tear rolled down her cheek, "aap phir se koi promise karke mujhe wapas lejate. Main bahat hurt thi tab. I was starved for love, for some attention. Agar aap lene aate to main khushi khushi aapke saath wapas aajati. Lekin mujhe yeh yakeen tha ki agar main london gayi to aap nahi aapayenge. Apne ghar ko chodkar, apne parivaar ko chodkar. Apni amma ko chodkar." Sagarika looked at him, almost accusatory, "aur mujhe yeh bhi yakeen that ki agar main wapas us ghar main gayi to main puri tarahse toot jati. At least london main rehkar, I got to regroup an find myself again."
"Are you happy now?" Bunty asked softly. "In London, are you happy? Parivaar ke bina. Aapke baba aur Pishima ke bina. Hamare bina."
"Jitna khush ho sakti thi, utna hoon." Sagarika smiled tearfully, "acha Kaam hai. Acha ghar hai. Dost hain Jo mujhe bahat pyaar Karte hain. Sabki yaad bahat aati thi lekin."
"And are you fulfilled? Kya aap aise hi zindagi bita payengi?"
"Aapke saath wapas aake main fulfil hojaungi?" Sagarika questioned, "at least London main rehkar meri ek life hai. Aap nahi the, lekin apni pehchan hai. Main Sagarika hoon, a businesswoman, ek entrepreneur. Apna boutique hai mera. Azaadi ki sans le sakti hoon. Jab chahun apne baba se baat kar sakti hoon, jab chahun Bhupali se har baat share kar sakti hoon. Aap bataiye Bunty, aapke saath rehti ho kya wajood reh jata mera?"
Bunty tried to speak but Sagarika continued, "aaj aapko meri baat Sunna padega Bunty!" Sagarika pointed a finger at him, "sochiye. Why did I marry you? Kya mujhe pehle se hi pata nahi tha ki Ammaji mujhe pasand nahi karti hai? Kya nahi bataya tha Maine aapko jab aapne pehli baar propose kiya tha?"
Sagarika's baba stayed in the kitchen wanting to give them some privacy. He was weirdly enjoying the conversation though. His cell phone vibrated.
"Hello?" He whispered.
"Bunty pohach Gaya?"
"Haan Haan, he's here. Dono ki baatein chal rahi hai. Dono ne confess bhi karliya hai ke ow dono ek doosrese pyaar karte hai."
"Acha? Yeh to bahat achi baat hai. In dono ka bas ab
Meanwhile, Sagarika and Bunty were still arguing.
"Aapne baar baar mujhe yakeen dilaya ki Ammaji mujhe apna lengi. Har din, har pal unki tane Sunna pade, apna wajood khona pade, Woh har chez karna pade aur Phir bhi apna pati ka saath tak na mile to aapko kaisa lagta?"
Bunty stared at her dumbfounded. She was bringing up points he'd never even considered.
"Chalo manliya k main Woh sab kuch sehti. Main tane sunti, sab kuch karti, agar aapne mera saath diya hota to. Agar aap apne vaade pure kiye hite to. Ammaji ko mera naam badalna tha, mein nahi chahti thi, par aapne kuch nahi kaha. Wo Satya ko baar baar meri Jagah deti gayi, aapne kuch nahi kaha. Yaha tak ki hamari shaadi ke waqt aap mujhe beech mein chodkar Gaye. Maine aapse kabhi yeh nahi kaha ke mere aur Ammaji ke beech mein ek ko chunna padega. Lekin main yeh bhi expect karti hoon ki mera pati mera saath de when things are important to me."
"Sagarika..." Bunty took her hand in his. "Sagarika, hum hamesha aapke saath hi hain."
"Nahi Bunty, aap kabhi humare saath nahi the." Sagarika tried to take hand out of his.
"Ek aur vaada mat karna Bunty. Phirse todne ke liye ek aur vaada mat karna."
"Nahi Sagarika. Amma hamari pran hai to aap hamari jaan hai. Hum apni jaan ke bina kaise rahe?"
"Teen saal to reh liya na? Aap rehlenge. Aur Satya to--"
"Satya chudail hai. Amma ka kaan woh hi bharti rahi hai itne saal." Bunty said angrily. Almost agitated, he took her hand and made her sit down. He kneeled in front of her, "Sagarika yeh teen saal humne kaise kata hai yeh bas hame hi pata hai. Aap sach keh rahi thi, humne Aapka saath nahi diya jab aapko hamare saath ki sabse zyaada zaroorat thi. Hame please maan kar dijiye. Please."
"Nahi Sagarika, bas aap hamare saath ghar chaliye."
"Bunty woh mera ghar nahi hai."
Few hours later, Bunty managed to drag Sagarika over to his house.
"Bunty, chodiye mujhe. Bunty!"
Everyone was sitting outside in the aangan. Pappu and Rani were playing with their son. Babuji was reading newspaper. Ammaji and Swara were peeling potatoes. They all looked up when they saw Bunty bring Sagarika in.
"Bunty chodiye!" Sagarika finally pulled her arm away from Bunty. It was too late though. Everyone had already seen her.
"Yeh sab kya hai Bunty?" Ammaji asked, angrily.
"Kya hai, amma? Hum bas apni patni ko ghar wapas le aaye hai."
" kyun?" Rani blurted out, then silenced herself.
"Kyunki yeh hamari patni hai aur unki Jagah yaha hai, hum sab ke saath."
Sagarika, feeling uncomfortable tried to leave but Bunty interlocked his hands with her. "Hum ek baat sabse kehna chahte hai. Yeh hai Sagarika," he looked pointedly at amma, "hamari patni, SA-GA-RI-KA. Inka is ghar mein tuna hi hak hai, jitna hamari hai. Yeh chod kar gayi thi, lekin ab woh wapas aarahi hai yahi. Main wapas lekar aaunga."
He turned to Sagarika without giving anyone a chance to say anything. "Aap wapas yahi aarahi hai Sagarika. Hum hak se keh rahe hain ki hum aapko koi shikayat ka mauka nahi denge."
"Sagarika, aap chinta mat keejiye. Hum hain na."
Hey guys. Hope you liked this part. The ending is a bit rushed because I'm half asleep right now and don't actually know what I'm writing anymore. I didn't wanna have a random change in character for amma and everything to be resolved suddenly. Just wanted Bunty to understand Sagarika's point of view and stand up for her. Hopefully it wasn't too disappointing. Thanks for all the comments. Lemme know if you guys wanna read anything else I write. Or if you have ideas or a brief how the story should go and I can write it. ^_^
