They were the most terrifying opening pair in ODIs and both could take the game away from the opposition in the blink of an eye. What made them so fearsome in the eyes of the opposition was the rate at which they got their runs.
Even though Sachin/Ganguly were another excellent opening pair andwere statistically better (in terms of total runs, however Hayden and Gilchrist were better in terms of average), the sheer fear which the Australian duo induced consistently make them the best ODI opening pair.
