Not sure if anyone is reading this at all, but have never liked to leave things uinfinished, so wanted to update nonetheless... I understand that folks are only interested in PrAja romance, but koi gal nahin :)...
Part II
"Challenge him to a
swordfight - No. A horse race? No. Push him down the stairs - No. Dunk him in
the pond - Nooo! How can I even think of such silly things? But, Patta acts
like a baby! Doesn't mean I have to behave like one to get back at him," back
and forth went Heer in her mind, as she swung gently on the jhula in the palace
garden, right under Ajabde's window.
"Patta, kyon aap
hamesha Heer ko tang karte rehte hain?" Heer could hear Ajabdeh reprimanding
Patta in her room. "Parantu Jija, weh to swayam bachcho ki tarah zid kar rahi thi.
Aur bachcho ke saath to parihaas hi kiya jata hai! Ab iss mein humara kya
dosh?" Patta shot back. Even though Heer was not in the room, she knew what
Ajabdeh was going to say: "Hum pareshaan ho gaye aap dono ke jhagron se!"
"Humein to iss vishay mein kuchh bolna hi nahin chahiye..." Heer finished off the
sentence - in a voice that was identical to Ajabdeh's. And that's when the idea
struck Heer - she jumped off the jhula and got to work.
Patta was on his
way home, when his glance went toward the stables that housed the three new
horses that he was training for the Bijolia army. He could see Ajabdeh there,
still in her warrior clothes. With her back to him, Ajabdeh was scrutinizing
the horses closely, and speaking to their keeper. Patta was very proud of the
work he was doing with the horses, and was certain Ajabdeh would be too.
Nothing made him happier than hearing his Jija praise him. He jogged across the
garden, toward the stables. As he got closer, he heard Ajabdeh say: "Yeh kaise
ashwa chuna hain Patta ne! Na hi achchhe nasl ke hain, aur na hi inhe sahi
prashikshan diya hai. Bahut nirash hai hum Patta se..."
Patta stopped in
his tracks - did Jija just say that she was disappointed in him? "Humesha
doosro ki parihaas karte rehte hain, aur apne kaam pe koi dhyan nahin..." Ajabdeh
continued angrily. Patta was not sure this was the right time to face Ajabdeh.
It might be better if she had time to cool off. And he turned around, and
walked briskly away.
As Patta vanished
from sight, the keeper gestured at Ajabdeh', and Heer turned around with an
impish grin on her face. She had always been good at mimicking other people's
voices and mannerisms, and it sure paid off today! From a distance, dressed in
white warrior clothes, it had been quite easy to deceive Patta, and convince
him that it was his Jija who was mad at him for not doing his job well. "Ab
dekhte hain, bachcha kaun hai - hum ya Patta," Heer smiled at the keeper. A
childhood friend, he had readily agreed to help Heer pull off the trick.
Patta just couldn't
sleep that night. Ajabdeh's' words, "Bahut nirash hain hum..." kept resonating
in his ears. "Jija ne aisa kaise keh diya? Hum mann lagakar mehnat karte hain
bas issliye ki Jija aur Bijolia ki bhalai ho, aur Jija ne aisa keh diya..." he
kept thinking. As dawn broke, Patta went to the palace, sad and unusually
quiet, and resumed training the horses. He was so lost in thought that he didn't
even look up when Ajabdeh walked past for her morning pooja.
"Yeh ashwa itne
achchhe hain, phir kyun Jija ne aisa bol diya... Unhe hum pe bharosa nahin raha?"
he was mumbling to himself, when he heard:
"Akhiyan Hari darshan ko pyasi
Akhiyan Hari darshan ko pyasi..."
"Jija! Woh kab
aayee? Arrey pooja arambh bhi kar diya, aur humne abhi pushp bhi nahin layein
unke liye," Patta leapt off the horse and ran toward the garden. "Jija ko
manana hain, unke sabse priya pushp hi lenge aaj," he said to himself.
"Dil kyun chahat kamal nayan ko
Nish din rehat udaasi
Akhiyan Hari darshan ko pyasi
Akhiyan Hari darshan ko pyasi..."
Patta was rushing
back with the flowers toward the aangan, thinking of how he would cajole
Ajabdeh, when he stopped short. Ajabdeh already had a basket full of flowers in
front of her! Patta's smile vanished: "Hume bulaya nahin, humare pushp ke liye
bhi apeksha nahin kiya... Ho kya gaya Jija ko! Unhe kya sach mein humari aur
zaroorat nahin hai?"
Done with her
bhajan, Ajabdeh looked up at Patta. "Aaj aap ko pushp lane mein vilambh kaise
ho gaya, Patta?" "Woh Jija, hum ashwo ke saath vyast the. Kshama kar dijiye,
parantu kal aapne jo kaha, uske uprant humara dhyan aur kissi karya mein lag hi
nahin raha hai..."
"Hum ne? Kya kaha
tha hum ne?" Ajabdeh asked, baffled.
But before Patta
could answer, someone interrupted in a sweet voice, "Jija, yeh mala achhi bani
hai na? Aaj aap Kanha ji ko yehi mala pehnana..." Ajabde turned to see Heer standing
behind her with a beautiful garland made with her favorite flowers.
"Oh, to aap hain jo
humari jagah lena chahti hain? Kya aap nahin janti ki har subah hum latey hain Jije
ke liye pushp? Phir kyun layi aap? Jija kabhi nahin lengi aapke laye huye pushp,"
Patta said, his arms on his hip.
Heer bit back a
smile, put on her most innocent expression, and said: "Hum to bas itna chahte
the ki Jija ki pooja mein vilamb na ho... Jija, aapko agar humara pushp lana
thhik nahin laga ho to kshama kar dijiyega... aage se nahin karenge," she said in
a hurt voice, and turned to leave, smiling inwardly.
Ajabde reached out
and grabbed Heer's wrist to stop her from leaving. "Rukiye Heer. Patta, yeh
kaisa bachcho jaisi vyavhar kar rahe hain aap? Aap dono milke koi karya kyun
nahin kar pate hain? Samasya akhir kya hai, Patta?" Heer was thrilled-her plan
had worked beautifully! She stood there, enjoying Patta's childish behavior.
"Jija, aap ko to
aajkal har baat mein humari hi galti dikhayi deti hain! Heer se to aap kuchh
nahin kehti. Kal bhi itna kuchh keh diya aap ne ashwo ki prashikshan ko leke -
pata hai hum poori raat so nahin paye! Issiliye to subah pushp nahin la paye..."
Patta vented out.
That shocked Heer!
"Hey Eklingji, yeh to Jija ke saamne saari baat bata denge!" She interrupted
hurriedly, saying: "Thhik hai, thhik hai... Kal se aap hi laana pushp, thhik hai?
Ab itni chhoti si baat le ke itna baat karne ka kya avashyakta..."
"Ek kshan Heer..."
Ajabdeh cut in. "Patta, kal humne aisa kya kaha tha ki aap itna bhavuk ho
gaye?"
"Jija, kal humne
sun liya tha jab aap keh rahi thik ki jin ashwo ko hum Bijolia ki sena ki liye prashikshit
kar rahe hain, who achchhe nahin hain. Aur aapne yeh bhi kaha ki hum mann laga
ke kaam nahin karte, sirf sab ki parihaas karne mein waqt vyatit karte hain!"
Patta said in a hurt voice.
"Par humne to aisa..."
Ajabdeh started saying, but Patta stopped her. "Rehne dijiye Jija... Humne swayam
suna tha aapko ashwapalak se kehte huye. Aapke peechhe the hum, isliye aapne
nahin dekha hume."
Ajabdeh's glance then
fell on Heer, and she saw her looking at Patta, scared and nervous, twisting
her hands. And then she remembered something that made everything fall into
place. Ajabdeh rolled her eyes in exasperation.
"Patta," Ajabdeh
said, "Aapki Jija hain hum. Itna sneh karte hain aap se, aapko Bijolia ki sabse
shoor-veer logon mein maante hain. Agar humne kuchh kaha bhi, to issliye kaha
hoga ki aapse aur achchhe kaam ki asha karte hain hum. Aap humare bhai hain, aap
ka kaam to baki sab se anek, anek upar hona hi hoga. Samajh rahe hain na hum
kya keh rahe hain?"
Patta felt as if a
huge load had been lifted off his shoulders. "Kshama kar dijiye Jija. Humne to
iss drishtikon se socha hi nahin! Thhik kaha aapne-hume to aur achchha kaam
karna hi hoga... Achchha, hum chalte hain Jija, karya adhoori chhod aye hain..." and
casting a "I-told-you-so" look at Heer, Patta left happily. Patta knew that Jija
only trusted him - so everything was right with his world again!
Heer looked at the
scene in front of her with a sinking heart-she had a feeling that she was going
to be in big trouble. "Lagta hai Jija ko pata chal gaya! Achha hoga ki hum abhi
yahan se chale jaye..." she hoped she could sneak away while Ajabdeh was still
looking the other way.
She had barely
taken a few steps, when she heard Ajabdeh call out, "Heer, aap khud batayengi
ya hum poochhen?" Heer said a silent prayer to Eklingji, as she slowly turned
around to face Ajabdeh, who was standing there looking at her calmly.
Heer knew she
couldn't lie to Jija. "Parantu Jija, unhone hi to parihaas arambh kiya tha. Aur
hume bachcha bhi kaha tha! Kya hum bachchi hain? Aisa kaunsa kaam hai jo woh
karte hain, aur hume nahin aata?"
Ajabdeh let Heer
vent out her frustration, and then said: "Parantu, aap ne jo kiya uss me jhooth
shamil thi na? Humne Patta ke saamne kuchh nahin kaha, par hume pata hai ki woh
aap hi thi jo humare vesh mein, humare awaaz mein baat kar rahi thi. Kya woh
sahi tha? Aapko pata hain ki hum jhooth se bahut ghrina karte hain..." Ajabdeh saw
how Heer was twisting her hands, and placed her left hand on Heer's hands,
wanting to calm her down. As Heer looked up, Ajabdeh took a deep breath in and,
with her eyes, urged Heer to do the same. Heer did so, and then as she let out
the breath slowly, she felt her anger slowly dissipating. And she threw
her arms around Ajabdeh, hugging her tightly.
Ajabdeh mussed Heer's flyaway curls
fondly, and said: "Aap dono ke jhagron mein humara sara samay chala jata hai. Kya
aap yeh chahti hain ki Bijolia-waasi humse gussa ho jaye?" "Nahin Jija, yeh
kabhi nahin ho sakta. Aap hum sab ki Ma jaisi hain, koi apni Ma se bhala
krodhit reh sakta hai?" and she hugged Ajabdeh even tighter. Ajabdeh let that
moment linger - these were the moments that made her life worth living. The selfless
love that she got from her Ma (Hansa baiji), Heer and Patta helped her stay
strong, and push back against the harsh memories that she had brought back from
Chittor all those years ago.
Precap - Patta gets
to know about Heer's trick.
