Yuvreen OS(Diwali special) - Kuch toh hua hai...
"Topper tu kab aa rahi hai yaar?Diwali par toh aaja" Yuvraj's voice blurred thourgh the phone.
"Nahi aa sakti na...bahot kaam hai Yuvraj"she replied back sadly.
"Waise toh main roz roz request nahi karta tujhe aane ke liye par jab bol raha hu tujhe aana hi chahiye...aakhir mera offer hai"
"Hogaya the end...tumhare acha side ka...pir se bhao khaane lag gaye!Seedha seedha bol kyun nahi dete that you miss me"she said back in a teasing tone.
"Miss?Aur tujhe?Lagta hai videshi hawa se tera mental condition kharab hogaya hai...isiliye keh raha hun hindustan aaja...ilaaz ho jayega"Yuvraj said mocking Suvreen's words.
"Tumhe bakwas taane maarne ka time hai...marte raho...Bye...mujhe bahot kaam hai" Suvreen replied back angrily.
"Haan haan busy hogayi hai Suvreen madam...itna ki apne best friend ke sath paanch minute bhi baat nahi kar sakti...aur humein baad mein lecture sunayengi ki hum unke sath baat nahi karte..."
"Ok bye...mujhe designs bhejna hai office ko...baad mein baat karungi..."Suvreen said trying to end the call.
"Bye...par...woh...try karna aane ko..."Yuvraj said sounding serious.
"Hmm..."she said and cut the call.
Suvreen cuts the call and smiled.
"Dont worry Yuvraj.I'm coming!"
Yuvraj had become a successful model and was back to his hometown Delhi.His appartment was just next to Suvreen's house and he lived with his parents.His parents and the Guggal parents occassionally visited each other as they were neighbours.Suvreen's younger sister Baby was in college and lived with her parents.She too had interest in modelling and so most of the time she was with Yuvraj taking his tips. Baby used to call Yuvraj 'bade jijs'/BJ as a short form and that had a long story for it.
He was on the terrace and had just talked to his best friend who was now in US for two years for her job.She was so excellent in designs that she was invited to work abroad and she happily had accepted the offer.He knew she was a little sad for leaving her parents,sister and maybe him too and for that she had barged into his room many a times in the night just to ask if she should go or not.The day before she went she cried so much that Yuvraj had a hard time controlling her but on the day of going she didnt show any sadness or atleast tried to as Yuvraj had successfully read the emotions in her eyes.
After that they had been in contact and they talked everyday atleast for two minutes no matter how busy they were.To say he wasn't missing her would be totally wrong.He just tried to make fun and showed he never missed her but from inside he did miss her like hell.He wanted her to be back here as soon as possible.A year and half had already passed without her and it seemed almost like a lifetime to him.He missed everything,every side of her. He was just drowned in his thoughts when his phone beeped.
He smiled as he reaised it was from Suvreen.
"Good night Baby's BJ. :P Advance Diwali and have good surprises tom! Miss me! :P"
His hands got busy typing and sent her a reply.
"Same to you! :D and whats the last phrase??Miss you??Haha in your dreams!"
Suvreen on the other side smiled at the reply. She locked the house and pulled her bags along.She was leaving that night itself!
Yuvraj remembered about Baby calling him BJ.When they were teens and Baby was 10 years old she had asked Suvreen...
"Di,when you get married who will be more important to you?Jiju or Yuvi bhai?"
Yuvraj turned her face to Suvreen and noticed her thinking.Even he waited for the answer.After some thinking she said
"Yuvi...because jis se meri shaadi hogi he would be knowing just a little about me and may even leave me...but Yuvraj...woh toh mera forever friend rahega!"
Yuvraj beamed at the answer.Baby the said
"Toh main inhe bade jiju bulaungi...kyunki woh jiju se bhi bade honge na di..."
"Hmm...bulalo jo bulaana hai...isse koi fark nahi padne wala"suvreen grinned and looked at Yuvraj who scowled back at her.
He laughed remembering that incident.Then suddenly he got the thought of Suvreen being married to someone else?He felt a tug at his heart.Someone else?Does he wants Suvreen to get married to him?No...thinking so he shrugged off the thought but still could not help but wonder if their relationship will become weaker and they'll distance themselves if she gets married.His mind got random images of Suvreen getting married and afterwards no talking of them or no meeting...his head suddenly got heavy with such thoughts.Suddenly he heard his mother's voice.
Yuvraj's mother- Beta tu ab tak yahi hai...Ja na so ja...raat bahot ho gayi hai
Yuvraj-Ha maa ja raha hu
Without thinking about it again he went to his room and laid down.He thought about the coming day.He had to again spend another diwali without her.Sighing he closed his eyes and tried to sleep.
Suvreen sat smiling reading her previous messages and conversations with Yuvraj after she left.She came to the convo they had during last year diwali.
"Enjoying myself topper with khub saare phatakhe :D...thank god tu yaha nahi hai...warna khud toh bhagti aur mujhe bhi bhagati... :P "
"Karo karo enjoy...I'm sure tum baby ko apna patner in crime bana chuke ho...mere aane se pehle she didnt touch crackers par tumne.!! Do saal mera yahan khatm ho jaye fir tum dono ka patakhe ban karwati hu ruko!"
"Hahha..I pity you...bechari... chahkar bhi you cant do a thing! *evil smile*"
"Well wait...topper naam ka kuch significance toh hai!"
"Lets see what miss topper can do...ab toh your dear sis is on my side too!"
"Just wait till I come back!"
"I wish you never do...stay there forever...mujhe teri chappar-chappar din raat sun na nahi padega atleast"

She giggled at their crazy talks. Its been nearly 18 months they hadn't seen each others' faces.Ofcourse they could do video chatting and talk but they never did.Each of them was afraid to get caught in some senti talk.So messaging was a better option. She closed her eyes and remembered the old times.She waited for Delhi airport to come!
Yuvraj woke up next morning late.He hadn't slept till late night.He had been replaying all those days of past from their childhood to where they are now. He could not just stop thinking about her.He himself didn't know why he was feeling from last night that she was coming to him.He tried hard to sleep but he couldn't for some unknown reason.Hearing some noise in their house he woke up.He sleepily peeked out of his room and saw his cousins Annie and Naro had arrived. Even the Guggals were there and the four girls Annie,Naro,Soni and Baby were chattering.
The whole Singhs and Guggals knew each other's family and distant relatives and friends also knew about this bond.It all started from Yuvraj's and Suvreen's friendship.There was huge bond in between the two families.Yuvraj's cousins knew both Suvreen and Baby very well and they were all like friends.Even Suvreen's cousins knew all of the Singh families.Though they weren't here this Diwali.
Yuvraj felt something unusual in today's crowd.they all were so excited as if to welcome someone.Confused he rushed to the washroom and got freshened up.After that he walked out of his room to ask about what was special.His relatives and cousin sisters finally got to see him.He went forwrd and took everyone's blessings and went to meet his sisters..
"Arre itna gapaar-shappar kya chal raha hai?Aaj kaunsa special day hai...except diwali...Sab itna excited?"
They were going to say something when Yuvraj's college friends Samar,Mannu and Rathie came.They came and wished him happy diwali and hugged.Yuvraj became more confused.Why were they all here in the morning already?
Oye tum log bhi?Aaj kya hai?"
"diwali hai bhai...itna nahi jaante" Mannu said.
"Haan woh toh hai..par tum kuch over excited ho..."he replied still being confused.
"Yuvraj...yaar woh kya hai na...koi aane wala hai..we are all waiting"Samar said.
Soni from the other side said-"Aree usse ab tak aa jana chahiye tha na"
"Kaun ayega?Tum log aise excited ho as if Katrina Kaif khud chalke aa rahi hai.." he replied irritatedly as no one bothered to answer him.
"Main aagayi..." a familiar voice declared!
Yuvraj could not hear that wrong.He cannot ever make a mistake in recognising that voice.He had heard that voice all the time from his childhood. A sudden smile appeared in his face as he turned around.
But the ladies and elders had already gathered her to welcome her blocking her view from his eyes.His cousins,Baby and his friends too rushed to meet him.He wanted to go and meet her first but he couldn't as he understood her parents came first always.So he let them and just stood there trying to get a look of her face.
She bent and took blessings from her's and Yuvraj's parents and hugged. Suvreen's mother lovingly carressed her head and kissed her forehead.Yuvraj's mother also did the same as they always treated her as a daughter.She said
"Dubli ho gayi hamari Suvi beta"
She smiled.
Only then Yuvraj got a glance of her face.Her black hair was all straight as it used to be and there were no changes in her face.The eyes were still big and beautiful,while her nose pointed which looked cute everytime she scrunched it.Her smile still the delightful one which warmed his heart.Being away from her for almost 600 days wan't easy for him but he lived it.And seeing her with all this surprise he was getting overwhelmed.
Then she got surrounded by the younger group as the hugged her and each of them asked a few questions about her being in US. She took a long time there while Yuvraj just waited smiling for his turn to come.Finally she saw him and smiled back.leaving them she moved towards Yuvraj.Baby said- "Arre koi unhe unke best friend se milne toh do...bechare mere BJ kabse wait kar rahe hain"
Suvreen advanced towards Yuvraj and stood infront him finally seeing him nicely.Even he had not changed much.He was the same as he used to be.She muttered a simple 'hi' smiling still. When he did not answer yet she snapped her fingers infront of him.Then he came back to the earcth and smiled and relied back 'hi'.They stood there without saying anything further.They did not want to tear off their eyes off one another as if threy're meeting in a dream and the dream would break if they looked away.

Suvreen was the first to come out of the so-called-dream and said-"Kuch zyada formal nahi ho raha hai?"
They looked for some seconds and both of them broke into laughter. In her laugh only,she hugged Yuvraj tightly and he did the same.Suvreen dangled him from side to side in a playful manner and others laughed seeing their childishness.
Yuvraj-"Aree tu sach mein Katrina Kaif ban gayi..."
Suvreen-"Huh??"
Yuvraj-"Oyee tujhe itna attention mil raha hai jitna Katrina Kaif ko nahi milta hoga"
Suvreen laughed.
Suvreen's mother-"Beta jao fresh ho jao...fir sab milke naashta karenge"
Suvreen-"Haan mumma abhi jati hun..ap sab bhi chaliye na..."
Suvreen's mother to Yuvraj's mother-"Haan Shanti...chalo na...hamara ghar tumhara hi toh ghar hai na..."
Shanti to Lovely-"Haan par..."
Suvreen-"Anty koi par-war nahi...aapki beti aaj ayi hai...aap nahi jayenge...aaj sab milke diwali manayenge...uncleji please boliye na... "
Yuvraj's father-"Chalo Suvreen beta keh rahi hai toh main mana nahi kar sakta...Baldev chalo aaj tumhare ghar saara diwali shift karte hain"
Baldev-"Kyun nahi Sukhwinder...chalo...aaj hamari side se diwali party "
Finally everyone agreed to stay the whole day at Guggals' and the celebration at night also with guggals.The two mothers Shanti and Lovely got into the kitchen preparing special items for diwali and the fathers got into decoration work.The girls made rangoli and they discussed what to do the whole day while the boys decided to play some pranks with the girls as a diwali bonus.Everyone was in the mood.
Suvreen got freshened and wore a light-blue coloured salwar kameez.She started unpacking things and Baby helped her.She kept on asking questions to her di about the country and her job and kept on ranting about college and all and Suvreen chatted happily with her sister.She missed her baby sister so much.They sat down together and had some quality sisterly time.Then the whole group came to her room to chit chat.
Annie-"Bata Suvi...US kaisa kaisa hai?"
Suvreen-"Acha hai...but I like it more here"
Yuvraj-"Aur haan topper...bata iss baar kya karegi apni anti-patakha campaign ke liye?"
Suvreen-"Yuvraj...aate aate shuru ho gaye..."
Yuvraj-"Kya karu...ab itna din taane nahi maara hun na..."
Suvreen-"Gannuji mujhe bachao iss se"
Samar-"Waise patakho se ladkiya darti kyu hai?"
Baby-"Sochne wali baat hai...kyunki mai nahi darti"
Suvreen-"I know sab iss janwar ke sangati ke wajah se..." she said glaring at Yuvraj.
Naro-"Waise hum ladkiyan darti nahi hai hai...bas uska sound pasand nahi hai"
Mannu-"Kyun Naroji?"
Naro-"Kyunki hame zor sound pasand nahi hote"
Mannu-"Main aapke liye less producing sound wala patakhe le aaun?"
Naro looked around confused while others had a hearty laugh.
Suvreen-"Mannu yaar...tu ab tak badla nahi"
Rathie-"Isse badalne ke liye iska DNA change karna padega"
Mannu-"Yeh DNA kya hai?"
Again everyone laughed at Mannu.
Samar-"DNA pata hai kya hai...DESH ke NAUJAWANO ka ADDA"(Country's Youths' Adda :P )
Again everyone laughed and told 'very nice'
Yuvraj-"thoda science class pe dhyaan deta yaar..."
Suddenly out of nowhere Annie suggested-"Guys shopping chale?Ab Suvreen bhi hai..."
Naro and Suvreen agreed-"Good idea...chalo chalte hain..."
Yuvraj-"Shuru hogayi ladkiyon ki baat...jab dekho shopping shopping shopping..."
Samar-"Yuvi...inhe rehne dete hain...we have better things to plan" he added with a wink.
Rathie-"Haan bhai inhe jaane do..."
Annie-"Oye tumlog kya karoge rehker...ab toh hum bilkul nahi chodenge tum logon ko yahan"
Naro-"Right...chalna toh padega...Suvi batao inhe..."
Suvreen-"Please chalo na sab...Yuvraj...please"she tried to put her best pleading face.
Yuvraj-"Chalo ab main kya bol sakta hun...commitment karliya hai...usse bhaag nahi sakta ab"
Suvreen giggled and said-"Dekho best friend hone ka fayda..." and she winked at the girls.
Samar-"Haan par kuch gadbad toh aaj hoga hi..."
Yuvraj supported him and said-"Haa yeh toh theek kaha isne.."
In a few minutes all went for shopping.The boys and the girls had huge confusions what outfits to buy and someone came up with a brilliant idea that the boys could choose for the girls while the girls could choose for the boys.Everyone agreed on that and decided to test each other's tastes.Everyone knew already who will choose for whom as Yuvraj and Suvreen were best friends they'd be the one choosing for themselves.Mannu flirted and even liked Naro a bit so he would be choosing for Naro and vice-versa.Samar had a good bond with Soni as both of them were almost alike so they would become a pair for choosing and Rathie and Annie were the funny pair and they could think what would suit on each other.Left behind was Baby.
"Haww di aap sabko toh pata lag gaya kaun kiske liye choose karega...mera??"Baby asked becoming a little sad.
Suvreen pulled her cheeks as she looked cute in that puppy-faced expression.
"Main hun na...I'll choose the best one for you..."
Baby then again asked-"Toh fir main kya karun?"
Suvreen started to think-"Tum mujhe help karo...iss stupid ke liye choose karna difficult hoga..."
Yuvraj-"Oye tu topper hai aur cheating kar rahi hai...tere liye helper mere liye koi nahi...that's not done..."
Baby-"Okay main dono ko help kardungi ok...ab chalo sab..."
Everyone got busy in choosing outfits for each other.The boys were more confused about girls' wear.Some people around got confused to see boys wandering around the grils outfits section and girls' around the boy's outfit sections. Mannu took a green dress in his hand and looked at Naro then he nodded in a negative and was about to keep it while Rathie snatched it from him and ttried to figure out if Annie would look good in it and even rejected it.Samar put his finger over his mouth and walked randomnly murmuring "Arre gud gal ke liye select karna hota toh kabse kar deta...woh kuch bhi lo acept kar legi par...Soni...sarr phata degi agar usko pasand nahi aaya toh". Then suddenly he saw a salesman with a yellow coloured Anarkali and he ran to him and asked for the dress to him but the salesman replied that it was already taken by some lady.Samar thought for a second and said that he was her brother and she rejected that dress.The salesman believed that and gave him that dress.Satisfied with his work and choice Samar started choosing a good spot to hide from the lady.In the meanwhile, Mannu had choosen a blue lehenga for Naro and Rathie a purple long flowing anarkali for Annie.
The girls kept rejecting one after another.Annie and Naro kept asking each other if their choices were nice and eventually ended up rejecting many outfits.Soni was keenly looking at kurtas for Samar as she wanted to test a new type of outfit on Samar.It could easily be told that the girls were also in great dillemma.Sony kept moving to select a good one but she bumped into Samar who was trying ard to save himself from the lady.They looked at each other and without any talk went in their way as both were busy. Annie chose a white kurta and Naro took out a cream and light green kurta.Both showed their choices to each other to confirm and then they suddenly liked each other's choices and exchanged the ones they held and confirmed it.Soni took out a black coloured kurta atlast and she looked around to find Samar to cofirm it directly by him.As she did not find him she opened a pic of him on phone and exchanged glances from her phone's screen to the kurta a few times and then smiled being satisfied with her choice.
Suvreen and Yuvraj also were in greatdillemma to find something for each other while Baby also ran from her sister to her BJ as they repeatedly call her to help them.Baby went to Suvreen and asked-"Di,kaunsa colour dekhna hai?".She thought for a few seconds and replied-"Blue...uska fav hai".Baby replied and then saw some blue kurtas and dragged Suvreen there.Suvreen got busy in selecting one while Baby ran back to Yuvraj. Yuvraj showed a orange coloured lehenga to Baby and she said-"Orange??BJ aapko nahi pata kya orange di ki least liked colour hai...".Yuvraj replied-"Pata hai par iska design acha laga so...".Baby without waiting for his justification took him to another place and said-"Yahan se dekhiye...".Yuvraj's eyes instantly fell on a red one and it was very beautiful.He brought that one and looked at it and then showed it to Baby.Baby smiled and said-"Mast hai...".Then Yuvraj and Suvreen came together to choose one for Baby.Yuvraj as a trial showed a white anarkali for Baby to Suvreen.Suvreen liked that and said-"Waah impressive...tum bade ache choose karlete ho ladkiyon ke liye huh...".Yuvraj replied back-"Haan tere sath jo laakh baar shopping aya hun...dekhte dekhte mujhe tum dono ka choices pata chal gaye hain".Baby came back after taking some accessories and saw the one chosen for her.Baby screamed in happiness."Wow kitna sundar hai ye...thank you di".Suvreen indicated with her that she didnt choose it.'It was Yuvraj' she showed by her finger pointing at him.Baby thanked Yuvraj.And they went towards the counter.Yuvraj to Suvreen-"Maine sirf dikhaya tha yaar...".Suvreen-"Ab chup raho aur chalo."
All of them met each other and checked out fittings and designs and after confirming all choices by their patners they all went to buy it.Now again another tradition followed that the one would pay for the one taken.That meant the boys paid for the girls and the girls paid for the boys.But Baby paid for her dress herself and when she was asked by Suvreen she said she had her pocket money left and she wanted to spend it.Suvreen nodded-"Pagal hai tu...theek hai".Baby-"Di aap bade kum pagal hai kya".Suvreen frowned at her and said -"Haww!"
They returned back to the Guggals' house and it was almost evening.They all went to get ready and got ready in their new dresses. The sounds of crackers were already audible from the houses of Delhi.And the two families were also ready for the blast.The girls sit down in groups at different places to make rangoli.Then they all came together for the aarti.They all joined their hands and prayed to the goddess for themselves,for their friends,to light everyone's life and keep them all together as they are.The elders passed the thaal to each other and then prasad was distributed. After that all the boys went into an hiding and the girls' forgot about them.They started to light the whole house and terrace with diyas.Suvreen had promised herself to strictly keep herself away from crackers.She was just lighting a diya and from nowhere Yuvraj came and started helping her.Suvreen smiled at him and then 'boom'!!! She screamed at the unexpected burst as Yuvraj had kept a cracker next to her and when she wasn't noticing he lighted it.Baby was also there and started laughing with Yuvraj.She being the youngest yet the boldest had tried her hands on all types of rockets and bombs.Suvreen seeing her sister grimaced while the other boys also started running after the girls with crackers full in their hands.The whole evening till night was enjoyed with crackers,cakes and sweets too.
Late in the night Suvreen didn't feel like sleeping.She came up on the terrace and saw the sky was still brightened by the crackers.She moved around and started to memorise each corner of the terrace.How she missed it when she went abroad.Suddenly a voice startled her. "Topper!" She turned around and saw Yuvraj. "Itni raat ko tum yaha?". Yuvraj instantly repplied..."Haan toh?tu bhi toh hai".She came near the verandah and stood -"Hmm bas neend nahi aarahi thi...". Suddenly she sat on the verandah and keeping her legs on the basement jumped on to his terrace.Yuvraj was startled by her jump but she had already come to the other. "Oye kya kar rahi hai?Gir gayi toh?".She laughed-"Bachpan se practice hai!" and Yuvraj also laughed remembering their childhood times when they would take turns and would jump to each other's terrace.Sh came and stood beside him. "So sab kaisa chal raha hai?"
Yuvraj-"Ye kaisa question hai...sab theek hai..."
Suvreen-"Hmm acha hai..."
Yuvraj-"Tu wapas kab jaa rahi hai fir?"
Suvreen-"Acha mujhe wapas bhejne main badi jaldi hai"
Yuvraj-"Aisa nahi hai bas pooch raha hu..."
Suvreen-"Hmm...toh tumhare liye uri khabar hai...ki main ab wapas nahi jaa rahi" she looked at him smiling wide.
Yuvraj-"Kya??"said beiing shocked and with a glint of happiness in him.
Suvreen-"Hmm main hamesha ke liye wapas aagayi...main firse yahan kaam karungi"
Yuvraj wound his hand around Suvreen's neck and pressed gently-"Pehle batati nahi.."
Suvreen struggled under his arm-"Ahh...chodo na..."
Yuvraj-".Irritate karne ka saara plan banake ayi hai haan?"
Suvreen-"Nahi chodo ab..."
Yuvraj loosened the hold but his hand was still around her.
Suvreen-"Waise surprise kaisa tha?Say,diwali surprise?"
Yuvraj-"kaunsa surprise?"
Suvreen-"Mera visit..."
Yuvraj laughed-"Tu bhi koi surprise hai..."
Suvreen frowned-"Acha mujhe thoda sa miss nahi kiya?"
Yuvraj-"Bilkul nahi...din mein ek baar teri lecture toh mil hi jaati thi...miss kyun karu?"
Suvreen pushed him away. "Jao mujhe baat nahi karni tumse"
Yuvraj laughed and pulled her closer."Taang kheech raha tha meri maa..."
Suddenly some lighted a cracker and it burst over their heads displaying a beautiful pattern.
Suvreen looked up and said-"Gannuji ye kaise log hain...aadhi raat ko bhi aapke ghar rocket chodte hain.."
Yuvraj-"Woh kya hai na teri gannuji ki darwar hamesha khuli rehti hai..isliye"
Then both of them laughed.Suddenly they became silent.They wanted to cherish the moment and bring back the memories of being together from years.Their friendship never ceased in all these years despite the numerous fights and even physical distance. They were always together in the times of need or problems.They looked up at each other and smiled promising through their eyes they would keep that forever.They would not ever break away from each other no matter what happens or whatever their relationship change into.They both felt it was something more than friendship that bound them toigether but friendship will never melt even if their status of relationship changes.Through their eyes they conveyed everything and words were not needed...not now atleast!
