The Next Day...

Rohail quietly walks in the room making sure not to wake her up in the process. He gently puts down the tray of food on the table beside her bed. He glances at her face. She is sleeping peacefully all nuzzled up in her blanket. Just looking at her face brings a smile on his face. "Gosh, she is so cute," thought Rohail. He looks away and walks to the window on her right. He draws the curtain. It was pouring hard. The heavy menacing looking clouds were hiding the sun and its light making it dark. He sigh. The weather outside reflected how he felt inside: dark and gloomy. He used to hate rain as it creates puddles and mud and all's wet. Until that one rain, when everything changed. He leans on the window frame and goes back to that one day.

Seattle, Washington...

It was raining like cats and dogs that day. He got out of his workplace to go home. It had been a long day. As he quick jog to his car, he cursed himself for not carrying his umbrella with him. "You would think I would have learned by now," cursed Rohail to himself. Finally, he got to his car. He beeped his car open and got him. Man was he freezing! He was totally drenched. Putting his laptop bag in the passenger seat, he put in his key and turn. It wouldn't work. He tried again. No result. The car would make "Ehhh" sound but then turn dead. He frown and shaking his head tried again. "F**k, man! Arghh.. this is just not happening to me right now," cried a frustrated Rohail as he banged his hands on the steering wheel.

Next, he fish out his phone from his pants pocket and called his road insurance to get his car towed. After being on hold for like forever, he found out that his car will get towed but the waiting time is an hour. Due to the heavy rain, there has been lot of accidents today. He so was not going to wait for an hour so he made a quick decision to set his car to get tow and go home in the bus. After putting his laptop bag in the truck, he locked his car and quick jog down the street. While driving back home, he had seen a bus stop around the corner of the next street. As he turn around the corner blindly he crashed into someone, "Great! This is all what I needed. Thank You, God!" thought Rohail sarcastically.

While caressing his forehead, where she hit him, he got up. He glanced down at her, "Wow. Somebody is having a worse day than mine," thought Rohail. She was a complete mess. It was obvious even in the rain that she has been crying. "Someone need to give her some waterproof mascara" Rohail told himself. She was a mess. Now her clothes were wet also as she fell on the wet concrete sidewalk. Being a gentlemen and the person because of whom she fell, he gave her his hand. But it was as if she didn't even notice it, she stood up by herself. Rohail pulled his hand back and watch her walk ahead quietly. He looked sideways and saw it was a cafe. "What could have possibly happen in there?" pondered Rohail as he walk ahead.

Suddenly realizing that he was walking like he's taking a scroll in this heavy rain, he quickly jogged to the bus stop. By the time he got there, the bus has already come and people were getting on. He quickly got in line and got on the bus. The first few seats were occupied. He walked ahead and took a seat on the fourth on the right. He sat down and looked outside. He sigh. The weather was really, really bad. Next, he fished out his phone and text his driver to pick him from the bus stop, where the bus will stop. Then he started browsing around. As he browse, he was lightly ruffle his hair drying it. Suddenly he looked from his I-phone screen and just glanced around, and went back to his screen.

Then he abruptly stop what he was doing and then swiftly turn to his left. There she was. She looking outside. She was still crying but now she would angrily wipe her tears off. Her dark black hair was loosely tied in a messy bun. Some threads of her hair that came out of her bun were blowing with the wind as the window was open. She was wearing a long black lacy dress and lacy white shrug. Sweet and simple, thought Rohail with a smile. Out of the blue, she turned towards him and look right in the eye. Rohail was stun at getting caught looking at her but more by her eyes. They were coal black. They were so beautiful that it took his breath away for a second. But then he notice she was over all very pretty but sad, as he saw another tear fall down her eyes. Then he realizes that she was not looking at him. She was looking behind him out of the window...

Karachi, Pakistan...

Suddenly Rohail heard a lighten struck and quickly open his eyes. He looks around and sees that he is still in the hospital. He rub his eyes and yawn. Lack of sleep was starting take a toll at him, he thought. He got away from the window frame. One glance out the window told him that it was still raining hard. He looked at Seher. She was up and was looking at him with a funny expression. "Well, at least it was not 'Who-are-you-?'," thought Rohail grimly as he walked to her and smiled. "Good Morning." "Good Morning", Seher smiled back and patted the bed after moving her legs so he can sit. He smiled and sat down.

"Kaisa feel kar rahi ho?" Rohail asked. "Much better," Seher replied. "Good," said Rohail. Then they both got quiet. Rohail and Seher look away with that awkward smile. "Acha.. tumhe bhuk lag rahi hogi," asked Rohail getting up. Seher nodded. "Mujhe pata tha, isse lia mein nashta laka aya hoon tumhare lia. Mujhe pata hai ka tum kitni choosy ho khana ka bara mein so mein tumhare lia ghar sa khana laka aya hoon," Rohail talked as he served her food. "Aap mujhe kaafi acha sa janta haina!," said Seher as she noticed all the dishes were her favorites.

"Of course, agar mujhe pata nahi hoga tu phir kisse pata hoga," Rohail said almost bragging but regretted right after saying it as he saw Seher's questioning eyes. "You know we are good friends and we live in the same house so I know you." said Rohail brushing her question away as if it was obvious. Seher nodded and ate her breakfast. The whole day Rohail stayed with her. Helping her with everything he possibly could.

A Few Days Later...

Rohail and Seher have turned into friends but still Seher doesn't really trust him nor would she really open up to him rather she can only talk about Aahil. Aahil this! Aahil that! "God, I hate this Aahil," Rohail thought as he heard the story of how Aahil brought her a red rose every single day after he proposed her. "He is not here but he is still everywhere," thought Rohail irritably. "I really need to do something about this Aahil," Rohail made a mental note.

Just then the nurse came and took Seher to give her a bath. She smiled to Rohail as she left. He smiled back.

After few mins...

Seher came back after taking a bath and saw Rohail was looking out the window. He was wearing a simple half sleeve white shirt under a black jacket with blue jeans. She smiled mischievously and quietly stood behind Rohail holding the bed, as her right foot was injured. Rohail smiled sensing her behind him. He nodded to himself and abruptly turn around. Instead of scaring him, Seher got scared herself. She was about to fall because she let go off the bed but Rohail swiftly caught her in his arms protectively. Seher tightly closed her eyes because of fear while she grabbed Rohail by his shoulder. Rohail looked down at her. She was wearing a simple light pink shalwar Kameez. "She's such a kid," he thought to himself and then added, "but a very, very innocent and beautiful kid as a matter of fact."

Seher slowly opens her eyes noticing that she didn't really hit the floor. She was Rohail looking down at her with his deep intense eyes, the same ones he look at her with every single time he glance at her. There was something about that eyes that whenever he looks at her like that she felt all shy and could feel blood coming up to her cheeks. And she didn't like this feeling one bit that she always get looking at him or when he is taking care of her. Hence, she decided to keep a distance between him. But right now, she was in his arms! And there was this glint in his eyes right now! "What does that mean?" she thought to herself.

Rohail asked with an eye-brow raised, "meri billi aur mujhe ko meow?" Rohail's voice brought Seher to planet earth. "Haan!" mumbled Seher. Rohail gave her his cocky smile and imitated her "Haan" as he made her stand but making sure her right feet doesn't touch the floor. Next still holding her by the waist, he half carry and half drag her to the bed. He sat her down on the bed very carefully. Seher didn't utter anything because she was so "aww" with his concern plus her leg hurt.

"Tum theek ho?," he asked after he had settled across from her on the bed. "hmm", she smiled and asked as she applied lotion on her hands and fingers, "Aapko kaam pa nahi jana?" "meri choti chal rahi hai tu phir mein kaam pa kyun jaoge aur waisa bhi meri job Seattle mein hai," he said as he browse his email on his I-phone. "hmm. ok," said as she finishing moisturizing herself and starting wearing her jewelry.

"ahhh," Seher echoed her pained. "Kya howa?" asked Rohail immediately looking up. He see that she was trying to wear her wedding ring on her ring finger on her left hand but because of her injury in her right hand it hurts as she stretched her hand. He sigh and shakes his head. "yaha lao," he said reaching for her left hand as he picked the ring in his left. However she only pulled her hand back. He looked at her giving her the look that say "we-have-talked-about-this." "Magar..." she started but Rohail interrupted, "Please," said Rohail with puppy dog face. She sighed and gave in.

Rohail was making Seher wear the ring with his left hand. That is when Seher notice that both of the rings, one he is wearing and one he just put on her ring finger, were awfully identical. "Yeh dono kuch zaada similar nahi hai?" asked Seher to Rohail. Rohail looked at both of their hands with rings and smiled.

Seattle, Washington...

"Maa..." cried Rohail for the nth time. Lately his mother has a new hobby: looking for a bride for her son. Everyday she would show him a picture of this girl or that and praise her and then he would reject her: sometimes with looking at the picture and sometimes without. Today was the same case. "She has a new picture and according to her this girl is just "perfect" which, if I may point out, was also the same thing that she said about the last "67" girls," Rohail told himself out loud. He was lying down on his bed practicing on his guitar.

"Lekin beta iss bar mein sach keh rahi hoon," his mom claimed as she came in the room with a plate of fruits cut in bit size pieces. "Tu iska matlab aap last 67 bar jhoot bol rahi thi," said Rohail exaggerating and even giving a fake shock expression as he ate a bit of a fruit."Rohail!" cried his mom as she sat down beside him, "Please thori dar ka lia serious ho jao," his mom requested. One glance at his mom, he knew she is serious. He sat up and look at his mom giving her his undivided attention, "Acha mom, bataye mein sun raha hoon." "Yeh tumhare dad ka dost ki beti hai. Tum janta hona Begh Uncle ko, unki. Bohaut pyari. US mein hi bari hoi hai so tum dono ki compatibility bhi match karage. Bohaut achi hai larki." Rohail listened quietly as his mom told more about her. "Iska naam hai, Seher Begh. Now finally, picture ki bari hai," his mom said as he brought out a picture and put it down face down on the bed. "Mujhe kuch kaam hai. Tum dheklo," she said as she got up.

First Rohail just glared at this picture but when he was finally about to pick it. "Just FYI... she is not pretty," Rohail heard someone said behind him. Even though he recognize the voice, he turned around. There she was his cousin sister,Mahreen, leaning on the door frame. Actually she was just like his own sister plus he doesn't have his own sister so... The glint in her honey-brown eyes hiding behind her specs told him that this girl is definitely not "not pretty". She was wearing tight black jeans and a emerald green shirt. Her jet black a-little-longer-than-shoulder- hair was just open. If only she tried, she would look so pretty. But knowing her, he knows she won't even try.

"Acha!," asked Rohail raising his eye-brows. "Agar yakin nahi hai tu aap khud dhek la," she said she walked in the room and bent down steal a bit of his fruit salad. Rolling his eyes at her antics, he turned the picture and he forgot to breath. "It is the same girl from the bus," thought Rohail.

"OMG! Don't tell me, aapko yeh pasand agaye?" asked Mahreen judging his expression while stealing another bit. "Asi koi baat nahi hai... Mein bas dhek raha tha," mumbled Rohail trying to hide his feelings. "Please bhai, mujhse to jhoot mat bola. Aaj tak apna kisse bhi picture itni gaur sa nahi dheka," said Mahreen seeing through his lie. "Mahreen!," called out Rohail. "Acha yeh bataye... aapko yeh rishta nahi pasand... theek hai mein Phupho ko keh dati ho. No problem." she said sweetly. "Meina asa to nahi kaha!" Rohail quickly said. Mahreen mischievously smiled and said, "mujhe pata hai lekin aapka muh sa kehl wana chahti thi." and ran from their yelling "Phupho bhai ko larki pasand agaye," "Mahreen ki bachi!!!" cried Rohail as she ran.

Rohail smiled and look down at her picture. "Seher," he whispered her name. He was in his thoughts when suddenly Mahreen came back. He looked at her with questioning eyes. "Woh actually mein kuch bhol gaye thi," she said innocently. He nodded but eyed her suspiciously. She came to him slowly and stole his plate of fruits and ran away laughing. Rohail shook his head and laughed.

A Few Days Later...

"Beta sab kuch rakh to lia tha na... theek sa," Phupho asked Mahreen for the nth time. "Uffo phupho, ji sab kuch rankh lia tha... aap ye kitni bar poochage." replied Mahreen as she picked up boxes of sweets from the truck, "Waisa bhi ab hum kuch nahi kar sakta. Jo hai wo hai aur jo nahi hai woh nahi hai," replied Mahreen as a matter-of-fact as she came stand by others. Rohail, his mom, and his dad look at her and shakes their head. They are out the Begh house. Seher's mom open the door and they all go in. Mr. and Mrs. Begh made them sat in the living room. They chatted and eat some snacks. "Saba(Seher's mom) aap Seher ko laka bhi ajao aur kitna itezar karoge," Sidra(Rohail's mom) complained playfully. "Ji ji laye."

After few mins, Sidra came down with Seher. She was wearing a beautiful white anarkali that made her look like an angel. White studs for earrings. Her hair in curls was framing her face. She was looking down. She only had light make-up done. All of this was making her look out of the world.

Aasmano se utara noor hai koi... Aasmano se utara noor hai                                                                     koi...
Aisa lagta hai k hoor hai koi... Aasmano se utara hai noor                                                                  hai koi...

Suddenly, she looked up at him. He was staring back at her. He smiled. Her eyes were a way to look into her soul. He notice they were hollow while in her picture they were radiating. He could see that she was not happy. He resist his urge to sigh. While she was confused as to why he smiled at her. But being from a well-mannered family, she smiled back as she look down bringing his smile back.

To jo chehre uthae to din to nikalta hai... Aasmaano se utara                                                      noor hai koi...
Aisa lagta hai ka hoor hai koi... Aasmano se utara hai koi

Saba made her sit beside Rohail and they exchanged their rings.

Karachi, Pakistan...

"Rohail!... Kya howa? kaha kho gaye aap? aapko kitni aawaz di," asked Seher with a smile. The doctor did her check up and then nodded. "Ok. You are recovering fast. Sab kuch to theek hai bas aek kaam aur karo. Din mein do bar yaha pay jo bahar garden hai wha jake thora chalo," seeing her protest, he continued, "I know thora dard hoga but tumhe chalana parega Seher if you ever want to walk again." she stopped protesting,"Good." He turned to Rohail and continued, "meina wheel chair mungwai hai, yaha sa garden tak tum isse wheel chair pay la jao aur phir waha say isse support deka chalwana. Lekin haan, dehan sa bohaut zaada pressure na dalna iske pair pay. ok?" he gave the instructions.

Rohail listened to his instructions carefully and nodded. The nurse came with the wheel chair and helped Seher sit in it. Next Rohail took her out to the garden. On the way, he kept talking and making conversation. He finally got there. The weather was beautiful. It was another late autumn day. Though the sun was out, one cannot feel it's heat. Light wind was blowing Seher and Rohail's hair. "Mausam kitna acha hai," said Rohail smiling looking around. It was a beautiful garden: a lot of trees and flowers with bench in the middle to sit.

"Haan bahaut. You know its my favorite weather,"  said Seher looking around. "I know," Rohail mumbled as he tried to park her wheel chair. But the stupid brakes were not working. He tried again. "Hey Rohail," called Seher. "Haan Seher bas aek second yeh atak gaya hai," called Rohail without looking at her as his attention was on the brakes. "Arah Rohail, leave that. Yeh dheko Aahil," Seher called out. "Oh no, not again," groaned Rohail hearing Aahil's name. "Abhi nahi Seher..." Rohail told her as he got down to see the brakes. "Arah what do you mean abhi nahi? Abhi to time hai! Pata hai kab se nahi dheka hai isse!?" Seher almost sounded offended, "Hi, Aahil!" yelled Seher. First Rohail ignored her but then the meaning behind her words registered and he instantly stood up. He looked where Seher was looking and who she was waving so happily. One look and he groaned, "You gotta be kidding me!"

Rohail saw that guy was walking to them. He was bloody good-looking, Rohail admitted grudgingly. His expensive shades were covering his eyes, (he knows they are expensive as he own them also). He was wearing a branded black suit with a white inside and black tie. Everything scream about him scream money. He walked to them and greeted Seher as Rohail stood their gritting his teeth. Next, he turned his attention towards Rohail, "Hi, I'm Aahil. Thank you so much for taking care of my fiance. I have no idea how to pay back." Aahil said with a smirk as he offered his hand for a handshake to Rohail.

Stun would be an understate to describe how he felt right now. Shock would be better. He look down at his hand. One look at Seher, who was smiling at his, waiting expectantly. He gave him a firm handshake, a little to firm, if you know what I mean. "Hi. I'm Rohail. Seher's..." he look down at her and smile,"...friend." Rohail finished with his killer smile that said the-battle-is-on.
