We hope you haven't tired of the Mikaelson family just yet, because The CW has just issued a Season 2 pickup for The Originals! The Vampire Diaries spin-off has been bringing in solid ratings and has established itself as a force to be reckoned with, proving that it doesn't need all of the tangled mythology that it's source material is delving into during it's fifth season.
"This season we've had great success with our new hit series The Originalspaired with Supernatural, giving us our best Tuesday nights in years," CW president Mark Pedowitz said in a statement. This is the exact reason why we had a very good feeling that the New Orleans-based drama would be back to thrill us for another season.
In fact, The CW surprised pretty much everyone Thursday (February 13) by renewing The Originals, Reign, The Vampire Diaries, Supernatural, and Arrow extremely early compared to other networks. Consider the gauntlet thrown, guys.
"I'm very pleased to announce early pickups for all five series, and let our fans know they'll have more great drama to look forward to next season," the CW exec continued.
We are thrilled to get another season of Klaus (Joseph Morgan), Rebekah(Claire Holt), Elijah (Daniel Gillies) and the rest of the Originals gang. It feels like we're still uncovering huge secrets in Season 1, so it will be interesting to see where we end up at the end of its freshman run.
