Once Sankaracharya was going to few houses to take bhiksha. He came across a hut and asked for bhiksha. ( food ). The women inside the house was embarrassed as a saint has come to her house for food but she is so poor that nothing was available in her house. She searched all the places n finally found a old Amla fruit . The poor women was feeling shy to give only this little amla fruit to Sankaya but she has immense devotion and dont want to send the saint who came to her house empty handed. She offered the amla fruit in the bowl of Lord Sankaracharya.

Sankaracharya realized the womens devotion irrespective of being poor. He immediately started singing twenty one slokas praising Goddess Mahalakshmi , praying her to bless the poor women by driving her poverty and grant her riches.

Mahalakshmi replied that the lady has not done any good deeds ( helping others in charity ) in her previous birth. so she doesn't deserve riches and is destined to suffer in poverty. Adi sankaraya accepted it but said though the poor lady din't do any good deeds in previous birth, in this birth, she has such a kind heart that irrespective of being poor, she gave this little amla fruit to him and this good deed alone is enough to bless her with all prosperity.

Listening to Sankaracharya's beautiful stotra and his arguement that the poor women must be blessed for her good deed in this birth ( offering of little amla fruit ), Mahalakshmi was moved.

As Sanakaracharya was singing Kanagadhara stotram, Mahalakshmi showered Golden amla fruit like rain infront of the poor womens hut.

Adi Sankaya has sung this "Kanakadhara stotra" for welfare of everyone who is suffering their past karma and suffering in poverty.

Even today it is believed that poverty would be banished by singing this hymn. The house this happened still exisits in Kaladi.

1) Angam hare pulaka bhooshanamasrayanthi,Bhringanga neva mukulabharanam thamalam,Angikrithakhila vibhuthirapanga leela,Mangalyadasthu mama mangala devathaya.
Meaning
To the Hari who wears supreme happiness as Ornament,The Goddess Lakshmi is attracted,Like the black bees getting attracted,To the unopened buds of black Tamala tree,Let her who is the Goddess of all good things,Grant me a glance that will bring prosperity.

2) Mugdha muhurvidhadhadathi vadhane Murare,Premathrapapranihithani gathagathani,Mala dhrishotmadhukareeva maheth pale ya,Sa ne sriyam dhisathu sagarasambhavaya.
Meaning
Again and again return ,those glances,Filled with hesitation and love,Of her who is born to the ocean of milk,To the face of Murari,Like the honey bees to the pretty blue lotus,And let those glances shower me with wealth.

Goddess Mahalakshmi was finally pleased with the request of Shri Adhi Sankaracharya to shower with gold to the poor lady. Second picture is not visible.

have you ever heard of a tuft on the shivalinga
here is a deity of kudumiyan malai with tuft

the temple is near pudukkottai

Before this place was called Kudumiyanmalai, its name was Thirunalankunram. Legend goes that the king used to visit the temple everyday in the evening and it was customary for the priest to give the prasad to the king after the evening puja. One evening, it was getting late and King Sundarapandian had still not come. Since the closing time of the temple was nearing, the priest gave the prasAd to the dasis who danced everyday at the temple. Seeing the king enter the temple just as the dasis were leaving, the priest got worried and took the flowers from the dasis who had already worn it on their hair and gave it to the king. Seeing a strand of hair on the flower, the king became suspicious and questioned the priest about the presence of hair in the flowers. Overcome by fear, the priest lied that it was from Lord Shiva's head. Angered by the priest's reply, the king locked him inside the temple, telling him that he would come the next day and check if the Lord did really have hair. Worried, the priest prayed to the Lord.

The next day when the king came, there was indeed a kudumi/shikha (tuft) on the Shiva linga! Becoming suspicious, the king tried to pull it from the Shiva linga, only to see blood coming from the lingam! That's how the Shiva here got the name ShikhagirIshwarar & the place got the name, Kudumiyanmalai.

you can see the tuft on the shivalinga which is why the name kudumi( tuft)yaan malai

this is the only place in India where the 63 Saiva Saints (Nayanmargal) is depicted along with Shiva and Parvathi on Rishba (Bull).

stone wall with inscriptions on Indian Classical Music and he explained that it is the oldest inscriptions on Indian Music providing details on the 7 Musical Notes and the rules arranged in 7 sections.

On the right is the old and main temple (Kudavaraikkovil) carved out of the hill. The front part was built later but the actual sanctum sanctorum, as you can see, is inside and carved out of the rocks of the hill.

All the Stars and Rasis (Birth Signs) on the ceiling

these inscriptions as the "first record to mention the solfa names of the seven notes... where the srutis are designated by resorting to the vowel changes in the name of the note and reduced to a mnemonic system of absolute notation."
