Salman Khan born Abdul Rashid Salim Salman Khan on 27 December 1965) is an Indian actor, producer, television presenter, and philanthropist. He is the son of actor and screenwriter Salim Khan, Khan began his acting career with Biwi ho to aisi but it was his second film Maine Pyar Kiya in which he acted in a lead role that garnered him the Filmfare award for Debut male. Khan has starred in several commercially successful films, such as Saajan (1991), Hum aapke hain kaun (1994), Karan Arjun (1995), Judwaa (1997), Pyar kiya to darna kiya (1998), Biwi no 1 (1999), and Hum saath saath hai (1999), having appeared in the highest grossing film nine separate years during his career, a record that remains unbroken.

In 1999, Khan won the Filmfare awards for Best actor for his extended guest appearance in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998). In 2011, he won the Screen Award for best actor for his performance in Dabang and in 2013, he won the Best Actor popular choice for his performances in Ek tha tiger and Dabang 2. Eight of the films he has acted in, have accumulated gross earnings of over 1 billion (US$15 million) worldwide. He played leading roles in five consecutive blockbusters namely Dabang, Ready, Bodyguard, Ek tha Tiger and Dabang 2. He has starred in more than 80 films and thus far has established himself as a leading actor of Hindi cinema.

Khan is the eldest son of screenwriter Salim Khan and his first wife Sushila Charak. His paternal grandfather was a Muslim from Afghanistan who immigrated to India and settled in India, Madhya Pradesh. Khan's mother is Maharashtrian.

His stepmother is Helen, a former actress, who has co-starred with him in a few films. He has two brothers Arbaaz and Sohail Khan, and two sisters, Alvira and Arpita. Alvira is married to actor/director Atul Agnihotri.

Khan finished his schooling at St Stanislaus High School in Bandra, Mumbai, as did his younger brothers Arbaaz and Sohail. Earlier, he studied at The Scindia school, Gwalior for a few years along with younger brother Arbaaz.

The stellar Salman Khan made his acting debut with a supporting role in Biwi Ho To Aisi (1988) and then in the following year made his leading debut in Maine Pyaar Kiya (1989), one of the highest grossing films of India! This movie not only earned him a Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut but also a nomination for Filmfare Best Actor. While his next few films were moderately successful, such as Baaghi: A Rebel for Love (1990), Patthar Ke Phool (1991), it was Saajan (1991) that once again brought him into the forefront. He had to wait until 1994 though for his next big hit. The movie brought out the common line of "hum aapke hain kaun"! Yes, Hum Aapke Hain Kaun (1994) was his second collaboration with Sooraj Barjatya which won 3 Filmfare Awards for the Best Film, Best Director, and Best Actress as well as a National Award for the Most Popular Film of the Year. And then came the first Shahrukh-Salman combined hit of 1995: Karan Arjun. This movie was a reincarnation movie and and was a huge hit! In 1996, he had two hits and two failures. The two hits were Jeet and Judwaa and the two failures were Khamoshi: The Musical and Auzaar. He continued his success in 1998 with Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya, Jab Pyaar Kisise Hota Hai, and a cameo in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. The latter won him a Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor. His success continued in 1999 with Hum Saath Saath Hain, Biwi No. 1, and Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. The latter won him a Filmfare Award for Best Actor.

In 2000, Salman did 2 serious roles with Rani Mukherjee and Preity Zinta in Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega and Chori Chori Chupke Chupke. In 2002, came the second Shahrukh-Salman film, Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam, which was a failure at the box office. In 2003, for the first time ever, Salman was seen in a role that had never been seen before in Tere Naam. In the next few years he had successful hits with comedies, such as Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004), No Entry (2005), and Partner (2007). His other films weren't successes though, such as Jaan-E-Mann (2006), Baabul (2006), and Salaam-E-Ishq (2007). He also starred in a Hollywood movie Marigold: An Adventure in India. None of his 2008 movies did well at the box office though the songs of each movie were appreciated. 2009 marked the turning point in Salman's career with the release of Wanted, though Main Aurr Mrs Khanna and London Dreams did not do well.

The same thing happened in 2010 with a super release in Dabangg, but not such a successful release in Veer. Dabangg set several records in the box office and broke 3 Idiots' records as well. It won several awards including the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment. Salman won the Star Screen Award for Best Actor and Stardust Award for Star of the Year - Male and was nominated for Filmfare Award for Best Actor. In 2011 he had 2 super hits in Ready and Bodyguard. Both movies also made records in the box office. In 2012 he had 2 more super hits with Ek Tha Tiger and Dabangg 2. Both movies were super hits and made records as well.

On 24^th January, his next movie will release named Jai Ho. The movie's trailer and first song have already been released and have received high ratings.

Salman hosted several shows on TV beginning with 10 Ka Dum in 2008 and in 2009. The show brought Sony Entertainment Television to the third position in Indian TRPs. He then began hosting Bigg Boss with Season 4 in 2010, and then returned with Season 5 in 2011, Season 6 in 2012, and Season 7 in 2013. He also hosted the Star Guild Awards in 2013. He has also appeared as a guest in Kaun Banega Crorepati Season 3 in 2007, Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge in 2007, C.I.D. in 2009 and 2012, Tere Mere Beach Mein in 2009, Dance Premier League in 2009, Sa Re Ga Ma Pa as a guest judge for 4 seasons between 2009 and 2012, Entertainment Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega as a guest judge for 2 season in 2010 and 2011, Lift Kara De as a special guest in 2 episodes in 2010, Na Aaana Is Desh Laado in 2011, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah in 2011, Diya Aur Baati Hum in 2012, Indian Idol in 2012, Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa Season 5 in 2012 and Season 6 in 2013, and Koffee with Karan in 2013.

Salman isn't just an actor, but also a writer, a producer, and a singer. As a writer he has written Baaghi: A Rebel for Love (1990), Chandra Mukhi (1993), and Veer (2010). As a producer, he has produced Chillar Party (2011), which won National Film Award for Best Children's Film. As a singer, he has sung "Chandi Ki Daal Par" (Hello Brother, 1999), "Chal Mere Bhai" (Chal Mere Bhai, 2000), "Main Hoon Yuvvraaj" (Yuvvraaj, 2008), "Most Wanted Track" (Wanted, 2009), "Khaan Kaa Gyaan" (Prem Kaa Game, 2010), "Bodyguard" (Bodyguard, 2011), and "Bodyguard Remix" (Bodyguard, 2011).

Salman has been involved in several charities during his career until he began his own NGO called Being Human, which sells T-shirts and other products online and in stores. A portion of the sales will go to a worthy cause of supporting the underprivileged. The Being Human Foundation has two focus areas: Education and Healthcare. In 2011, he launched his own production company called SKBH Productions (Salman Khan Being Human Productions), which produced Chillar Party in 2011.

You've been my favourite actor since I was a kid - the original Prem😳...loved ur 90s movies especially ur movies with Sooraj - HSSH being one of my favourites...and I am so excited since I heard about ur new movie with sooraj...m sure its going to rock and would bring back the charm of the 90s even though everyone thinks its impossible!

I've always loved ur pairing with Karisma kapoor - lolo and u look amazing together and I really hope u do a good movie with her!
