Sharukh Khan was born on 2 November 1965 in New Delhi, India. He married Gauri Khan on 25 October 1991. They have three children, son Aryan Khan (b. 1997), son AbRam (b.2013) and daughter Suhana (b. 2000). Khan started out his career by appearing in several television serials during 1988-1990. He made his film debut with the commercially successful Deewana (1992). He began to achieve success at the box office from his villainous roles in films such as Darr (1993), Baazigar (1993), and Anjaam  (1994). During his years in the Indian film industry, he won seven Filmfare best actor awards and had significant box-office success. Some of his films include Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), Om Shanti Om (2007), and Chakde! India (2007). While he does his romantic scenes during songs or in his films, he copies the style of Rajesh Khanna, and his acting style has influences of his inspirations--Dilip Kumar and Rajesh Khanna.

Born to Mir Taj Muhammad Khan and Lateef Fatima in New Delhi, India, his mother always believed that her son was destined to be a great actor, often citing the resemblance between Khan and Dilip Kumar, another Bollywood legend. His name literally translates into Face of the King.

Born and brought up in Delhi, he was a brilliant student and an all-rounder. At St. Columba's School, he won the prestigious Sword of Honour. He was also the captain of his football, hockey, and cricket teams all at the same time. After sustaining a football injury, he started to consider acting as a career. He graduated with honours in economics from Hansraj College and did his master's in mass communications from Jamia Millia Islamia.

Khan then went on to study theater under the reputed Barry John, whom he credits for carving out the actor inside him, but his mentor considers his pupil as being solely responsible for his greatness and glory, citing Shahrukh to have the perfect combination of talent, perseverance, belief in yourself, a never-give-up-attitude and of course, a bit of luck--factors needed for success.

Born and brought up in Delhi, Shah Rukh Khan started his career on television as Commando Abhimanyu Rai in Fauji (1988). He instantly became the teenage heartthrob owing to dimpled smile. He, then went on to play a small part in Circus (1989). After the tragic death of both his parents, Shah Rukh decided to come to Mumbai, to start afresh and also test his fate in Bollywood. Shah Rukh made his entry into Bollywood with Deewana (1992). The movie was a hit and Shah Rukh bagged his first award, Filmfare Best Male Debut Award. Both, Baazigar and Darr (1993) had Shah Rukh protraying a negative character of an obsessive lover. Both these movies got him critical acclamation and were instant successes. The biggest blockbuster of his career came with Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995). The movie is an all time success and is currently in its sixteenth year in Mumbai theatres. He also acted in Anjaam (1994), Dil Se (1998), Hey Ram (2000), Swades (2004) and Paheli (2005). Although these movies did not make it at the box-office, his role in the movies received recognition. Paheli (2005) went on to become India's official entry to the Academy Awards for consideration for Best Foreign Language Film.

A close bond with Yash Chopra and Karan Johar, led to a series of hit success like Dil To Pagal Hai (1997), Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), Mohabbatein (2000), Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001), Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003) and Veer-Zaara (2004), Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (2006). Don - The Chase Begins Again (2006) a remake of the 1978 classic hit Don, starring him in the title role was a box-office success. 2007 saw Shah Rukh Khan in a totally different role that of Kabir Khan, ex-Indian hockey team captain turned coach. The film was highly successful and brought crtical acclamation for Shah Rukh Khan. Farah Khan's Om Shanti Om (2007) became the year's highest grossing film in India and overseas. Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (2008) saw Shah Rukh romancing debutant actress Anushka Sharma. The film was a major box office success. My Name is Khan (2010) saw the hit combination of Karan Johar, Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol. The film received tremendous success at home as well as abroad.

In 1999, Shah Rukh Khan set up his Dreamz Unlimited, a production company in collaboration with Juhi Chawla and Aziz Mirza. Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani (2000), Asoka (2001) and Chalte Chalte (2003) were produced under this banner. In 2004, he set up another production company, Red Chillies Entertainment. Main Hoon Na (2004), Paheli (2005), Om Shanti Om (2007) and Billu (2009) were produced under this banner. The company also has a Visual Effect Studio, Red Chillies VFX.

PRODUCER

Khan turned producer in 1999 in a collaboration with actress Juhi Chawla and director Aziz Mizra for a production company called Dreamz Unlimited In 2004, Khan transformed it into Red Chillies Entertainment with his wife Gauri also serving as a producer. He produced three films under his first company; Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani (2000), co-starring Chawla and directed by Mirza, a critical and commercial failure. The following year, he produced Asoka which was a box office failure. However, it was well received by critics, and was nominated for the Fimfare Best Movie Award. His third film as a producer and star, Chalte Chalte, proved a box office hit.

The first film to be produced by RCE was Main Hoo Na (2004), which served as well-known choreographer Farah Khan's directorial debut. The film earned 10 nominations for the Filmfare Award. The following year, he produced and starred in the fantasy film Paheli (2005). The film was met with wide critical acclaim and was selected as India's official entry to the Academy Awards for consideration for Best Foreign Language Film. Also in 2005, Khan co-produced the supernatural horror film Kaal (2005) with Karan Johar, and performed an item number for the film with malaika Arora Khan. Kaal was moderately successful at the box office

It was also nominated for the Filmfare Best Movie Award. His company has further gone on to produce Billu (2009), and Always Kabhi Kabhi (2011). During the filming of My Name is Khan, Karan Johar producer of the film and head of Dharma Productions, requested Khan to co-produce the film under his production company. They both collaborated again on Johar's directorial venture Student of The Year (2012). In 2011, the company produced the Sci-fi superhero film, Ra.One which witnessed the inclusion of several visual effects techniques being incorporated by his own animation studio.Khan is also a co-producer of Don 2  (2011) with Excel Enterainment . The film was a major success in India and abroad, outperforming its prequel. In 2013, he produced Chennai express  which broke several box-office records and was a huge success, becoming the highest grossing Bollywood film of all time in India and worldwide.

The company has four sub divisions, apart from film production. The animation studio known as Red Chillies VFX has been involved with many major films such as Chak De India, Om Shanti Om, Dostana and Kurbaan. A studio for TV commercials known as Red Chillies TVC and TV shows/serials known as Red Chillies Idiot Box, which conceived popular shows like Up Close & Personal with PZ and Ishaan. The company also has a little over 50% stake in the Cricket team Kolkata Knight Riders often abbreviated as KKR, in the BCCI-backed IPL cricket competition.

TELEVISION

In 2007, Khan replaced Amitabh Bachchan as the host of the third season of the game show Kaun Banega Crorepati, popularly known as KBC, the Indian version of Who Wants To Be a Millionaire?. On 22 January 2007, Kaun Banega Crorepati aired with Khan as the new host and later ended on 19 April 2007 with a special finale. In an interview with The Times of India, Khan explained that he was offered to host the second season of the show as well but declined according to Bachchan's wish to continue as host. However he later accepted due to the previous host's health issue which forced him to back down. For his work at KBC 3, Khan won the best anchor at various awards ceremonies including The Global Indian Flm and Television Honours and Indian Telly Awards.

A year later, Khan began hosting the game show Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass Se Tez Hain, the Indian version of Are you smarter than 5th Grader, The show premiered on 25 April 2008 and the last episode was telecast on 27 July 2008 with Lalu Prasad Yadav the special guest.

In 2011, he returned to television with Zor Ks Jhatka: Total Wipeout, the Indian version of the American game show Wipeout, on Imagine TV. The reality game show started airing on 1 February 2011 and ended on 25 February 2011. Although it was organized in Buenos Aires, capital of Argentina, the end-game bits featuring Khan were shot at the Yash Raj Studios in Mumbai. Contrary to his previous two television outings, the show opened with dismal viewer ratings and continued declining through its run, eventually ending in less than a month with fifteen episodes aired.

IPL CRICKET TEAM

In 2008, Khan in partnership with actress Juhi Chawla Mehta and her husband Jay Mehta acquired ownership rights for the franchise representing Kolkata in the Twenty20 cricket tournament Indian Premier League, for a price of $75.09 million (INR 3.57 billion), and have since named the team Kolkata Knight Riders. KKR is one the richest teams in the IPL and has been ranked as the most valued with a brand value of $42.1 million.Financially, Kolkata Knight Riders are the most profitable and successful franchise in the IPL as well.[ The team was surrounded with controversy and poor on-field performance through the first three years of the tournament. Its performance, however, improved from the fourth season and they eventually became the IPL champions for the first time in 2012.

On 9 April 2012, Khan was served a notice by the Rajasthan Police for smoking in public after he was seen smoking on camera during a match between the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Rajasthan Royals on 8 April. On 16 May of the same year, he received a five-year ban from the Wankhede Stadium by the Mumbai Cricket Assocation for arguing with security at the ground after a match between his team and The Mumbai Indians.Khan later apologised to his fans after his team won the final match at Chennai on 27 May.

Picture abhi baki hai mere dost

Meaning:
Movie is still not over my friend

I love you KKK ... Kiran

Don't underestimate the power of a common man

Mohabbat mein shartein nahin hoti ... toh afsoos bhi nahin hona chahiye

Meaning:
There are no conditions in love ... hence there should be no repenting

Bomb se zyada zakhm toh zindagi deti hai ... har mod par koi dhokha, koi dard ... toh jab zindagi ke khatron se bachne ke liye koi bomb suit nahin pehanta ... toh maut se bachne ke liye kya pehanna

Meaning:
Life gives more wounds than a bomb ... on every turn there is betrayal, pain ... now since no one wears a bomb suit to protect from the dangers of life ... then why should one wear it to protect from death

Yadhaash bhi kitni ajeeb cheez hoti hai ... kis cheez ko puri zindagi bhulne ki koshish karo, woh bhulti nahin ... kabhi ek choti si cheez yaad karne ki koshish karo, toh yaad nahin aati

Meaning:
Memory is such a strange thing ... when you try to forget a thing your whole life, you can't forget it ... and when you try to remember a small thing, you can't remember that

Kaun kambakht bardaasht karne ko peeta hai ... hum toh peete hai ki yahan par baith sake, tumhe dekh sake, tumhe bardaasht kar sake

Meaning:
Who the hell drinks to tolerate ... I drink so that I can sit here, so that I can see you, so that I can tolerate you

Kabhi kabhi jeetne ke liye kuch haarna bhi parta hai ... aur haar kar jeetne waale ko baazigar kehte hai

Meaning:
Sometimes to win you must lose something ... and one who wins from a losing position is called a gambler

Kehte hain agar kisi cheez ko dil se chaho ... to puri kainath usse tumse milane ki koshish mein lag jaati hai

Meaning:
It is saying that if you really desire something from the heart ... then the whole universe will work towards getting you that

Main aaj bhi usse utni hi mohabbat karta hoon ... aur isliye nahin ki koi aur nahin mili ... par isliye ... ki usse mohabbat karne se fursat hi nahin milti

Meaning:

Till today I love her the same ... not because I didn't find anyone else ... but because ... I don't have time left after loving her

Zindagi toh har roz jaan leti hai ... bomb toh sirf ek baar lega

Meaning:
Life kills you everyday ... a bomb will kill you just once

Duniya mein kitni hai nafratein ... phir bhi diloon mein hai chahatein ... mar bhi jayen pyar waale ... mit bhi jayen yaar waale ... zinda rehti unki mohabbatein

Meaning:
There is so much hatred in the world ... but still there is love in the heart ... even if the people you love die, and your friends disappear ... their love always remains alive

I can fight with all actors, I can face them and win, but I cannot fight aliens.

I thank God for happiness and sadness...If you are never sad you will never know how good happines is.

(December 2001, about Hrithik Roshan ): I wish I looked as good as he does. And I wish I danced as well as he does!

Yes, I do have a close circle of friends and I am very fortunate to have them as friends. I feel very close to them I think friends are everything in life after your family. You come across lots of people all the time but you only make very few friends and you have to be true to them otherwise what's the point in life?

I'd rather sink trying to be different, than stay afloat like everyone else.

I cannot repay my fans for what they have done for me, they have given me so much love and that love has taken me to the number 1 position where I am today, the only thing I can do for my fans is to never stop working, and to do films till the very end, it is the only way I can express my love for them.

To me, Devdas is the end of love stories. I've portrayed an obsessed lover, a nice lover, an angry lover, a romantic lover. And now I've played Devdas. For someone who doesn't even like love stories, I've played an awful lot of lovers. Personally speaking, I wouldn't see any of the romantic films I've acted in.

I'm the luckiest man in the world and I don't want to hide from the faces I'm acting for. So I don't surround myself with guards, I've never given an interview in which I've said I feel bad that I can't go shopping or I can't go to Chowpatty and eat bhelpuri without being mobbed. I'm not the kind of guy who goes out wearing dark glasses (I don't think I'm a big enough star to hide behind them, honest). I go to see movies in the cinema theatres, I go to restaurants with my family and friends even though I know people are going to disturb me there.

God has become a generic term like 'mind blowing.' It is embarrassing. I would have said that to Amitabh Bachchan, Naseeruddin Shah, Nana Patekar. I used to tell them I want to stand in the same space as you. I've told Kamal Haasan and Rajesh Khanna  Saab, I just want to touch you. They are the gods of acting. When people call me God, I say, no, I'm still an angel or saint of acting. I still have a long way to go. Though I cannot ever surpass these legends I would like to be next to them.

(August 2004): Awards  that ignore me are losers.

(August 2004): I'm try-sexual. I try anything that's sexual.

(August 2004): I have no competition. Every year the names I'm pitted against keep changing. You can't cream the competition, you have to kill it.

I keep hearing that our films are escapist and unreal but I find our films the most real in the world. We don't have people going up in a rocket and single-handedly blowing up a meteor. We don't have a president on Air Force One saving the world or things coming out of people's stomachs. Our fantasies and escapism are real. It's just people singing and dancing in the street. If England had won the World Cup you would have seen people singing and dancing like that.

I don't like wearing dark glasses. I'm happy with the fact that people know me. I want people to scream and shout at me, I want people to trouble me when I'm having lunch, I like six bodyguards around me. I love being a star. I find it very strange when people who are famous say they don't want to be photographed. I don't want to be photographed first thing in the morning, I don't want people peeping into my bedroom, but besides that, it's a wonderful life.

"I haven't given up smoking. I'm very clear about it, it's a personal choice. I want to cut down on it. It shouldn't be made into an issue to say, damn good or damn bad. Whether I give it up or not shouldn't be an issue." (Movie Mag, May 2006)

"I was supposed to have done Rang De Basanti  (2006), the guy on the motorbike. I didn't have the dates. They were shooting in Delhi and the dates were clashing with Paheli." (Movie Mag, May 2006)

"It's not like Steven Spielberg is waiting with a script for me. I don't think I'll ever be offered a great international film in my lifetime, so I'd rather be a king here. Moreover, Indian cinema is the greatest in the world. But of course, after spending three months in LA, London, and New York I found that our cinema is a little exaggerated. To make a mark in the West we have to reach their level without losing our identity, culture or songs. I don't want to star in a Hollywood film, but want to make a film that crosses over universally." (Movie Mag, May 2006)

On trying to get Paheli (2005) an Oscar nomination: "There's a misreport here about our lobbying at the Oscars. The understanding that we have of the Oscars is very different from how it really is. Because Indian film, foreign films are not known, you're supposed to hire a PR company which we did. It's not as if you just go there, show your films, lobby and talk to them. You're not allowed to lobby as in you're not allowed to meet the Academy members, talk to them or even make a call to them. You just keep advertising in the 'For Consideration For Oscars' category. We took out full page ads in papers like Variety and Hollywood Reporter. The only good thing we did was that we advertised very frequently, it was promoted on the same scale as the biggest of films. We did it because we could afford it." (Movie Mag, May 2006)

"I felt Ashoka the Great (2001) should have been chosen for the Oscars. We had worked towards that. We had these international distributors for it. We were the first to actually release an Indian film internationally in traditionally non-Indian theaters. We spent a lot of money and lost a lot of money too. We were the first to put up boardings in London, in tube stations. We did speak to everyone who was anyone here, wondering if Asoka could go to the Oscars. But the one that got chosen was Lagaan: Once upon a Time in India  (2001) which was even better. So we had no complaints. After that I didn't make any film for the foreign market." (Movie Mag, May 2006)

You must respect your seniors, bu never get intimidated by them. Winning should be a habit, not an option. The four Hs are important when you play to win --- honesty, humor, hard work and a bit of haraamipan.

I don't look at the figures that my movies make. The only figures I look at are girl's figures. (When asked to comment on what he felt about the figures his movies gross.)

Whenever I fail as a father or husband... a toy and a diamond always works.

If I talk to a girl, it's assumed that I'm having a scene with her. If I don't, then it's assumed that I'm gay.

I don't kiss on screen. Period.

There are only two Khans. Ghenghis Khan and Shahrukh Khan.

Sex is not required to sell my film. My name is enough.

You never win the silver, you only lose the gold.

I am very shy. If I am flying British Airways and the air hostess asks me two questions, and I don't understand her accent - I will go hungry for the entire flight.

The dream I chased, took me on a journey. A journey more rewarding then the goals, the achievements. When I look back it's like facing a million mirrors. Each reflection opens a window. A window to the world I've just discovered. The world I want to share with all of you.

If I am a role model, I must be the worst one in the world.

I've never had a girl make a pass at me.

Togetherness, passion, laughter, faith, trust and jealousy are the essential ingredients of love.

The collar-bone is my favorite part of the human body.

If asking me whether sleeping with X or Y gives the media pleasure, then so be it. It's a small price to pay.

I don't think I would have become an actor if Kajol wasn't a part of my films and life. And I don't think I would have continued acting if Rani wasn't a part of films either. I think perhaps in seventeen years they sum up my career as the most beautiful career.

Rani has looked her career best in Paheli. For myself, Aziz and Juhi, Rani is the only leading lady for our production house. She is the best actress we have had in I'd say the last 16 years!

[Speaking to Rani Mukerji on a talk show] I've known from the time you started. I'm very fond of you... I love you! We've done different kinds of roles together. Chalte Chalte I think was very interesting. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai was interesting because you'd just started out... Its wonderful to see you evolve as an actor over the years and personally I do believe that Rani Mukerji is the best actress in the country in the last 16 years. I think she's absolutely wonderful!

[In the making of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai] I've worked with a few new comers [Mahima Choudary, Preity Zinta, Rani Mukerji] recently and Rani is the best of the lot. She lights up the screen with her appearance, she's very very beautiful and extremely talented, it was a pleasure working with her.
