I agree with this. If Sharukh wasn't in this and let's say it was a newcomer the film wouldn't have done well. But that's a given as this is how Bollywood works, any film SRK and Salman are in will be instant hits. It's not like Hollywood where any random actor can make a massive hit if the script Is good.

Personally I enjoyed Chennai express as it had SRK playing a role he hasn't done in a while (masala) i think that's the main reason the film has done as well as it has.

Ek tha tiger, CE,  ready, dabang, Don 2 would all have a different fate at the box office had it not been for the main actor starring in the movie. The only movie out there in Bollywood that could have been as big as it has been without the main star of the movie is Aamir 3 idiots as the script was excellent

I am aware of this bunch of critics and bloggers from Twitter. It is not about cinema for them. They need an excuse to bash COMMERCIAL cinema!

CE or Bodyguard are trash or junk for them. But these were the same guys who bashed films like RDB, Munnabhai MBBS, LRM, 3 Idiots and TZP and accused the makers and stars of these films of being pseudo intellectual or sugar coating issues or being manipulative!

They are all a bunch of pissed "independent filmmakers" who have problem with whole of commercial cinema, anything that attracts audience and mints money.

Fact is that people want entertainment and fun! A Rohit Shetty film is absolute masti with no sense or logic. A Raju Hirani film has fun and masti but also has emotion and food for thought.

"Purist" films do not attract audience. These so called Ship of Theseus kind of films get a bit of coverage in media and film festivals. They are not for masses.

Masses are a stressed lot who need an escape from drudgery of everyday life.

They want to relax and entertaining commercial films help them do so!

So called multigrain or organic foods are popular with a segment. Not entire populace.

And everyone likes to have cheat days or holidays when they can just let their hair down and eat whatever they want to and do whatever they want to. So on a weekend, holiday or "cheat day", everyone has their share of pakoras, pav bhaji, cookies, or tikki etc. than bland diet food!

Watching films is a group activity for enjoyment, relaxation and at times celebration for people. So why bash them for doing that? And why bash those who serve their interests?

What must the stars do? How many come when they do films like Swades, Dhobi Ghat, Raakh or Phir Milenge?!

They need to have a career too. Or should they remain obscure and cash-strapped like this indy gang? Angry

Frankly if their cinema was so damn good then it would have got a following online itself, something like the Paranormal Activity flicks. Their films are for film festivals NOT for audience at large.

Tomorrow films like Krissh 3 (desi superhero) and Dhoom 3 (chor police film with glamour and skin show) shall mint even more money. That's because audience wants fun, gloss and larger than life characters and situations.

No one is serving a cause here. All watch movies, TV or read books to relax. They deserve to have freedom to choose what they want to consume. And there's no need to trash them for it.

These critics (aspiring to be filmmakers) also bash big stars' films only to get attention for themselves and their indy films whose names they insert in their piece to peddle as intellectual cinema!

There is all kinds of cinema that serves various kinds of purpose and caters to people with different interests. All kinds of cinema need to be respected for what it is.

This is junk, that is pseudo-intellectual, this is manipulative, that is sugar-coating serious stuff - are all rants of frustrated people whose own work gets bare recognition! It's as if only their work is intelligent and perfect!

Indian cinema will forever be stagnant until these 90's superstars are around. Atleast an Aamir will balance Ghajini with a TZP or a Dhoom 3 with a Dhobhi Ghaat and even Akshay whose been doing OMG and Sp 26 to compliment a Khiladi 786 but guys like SRK and Salman have rarely shown a passion for the arts or any creativity, atleast recently. Its all business for them. Saif and Ajay used to experiment before but even that's pretty much stopped now.
But the future seems bright with the young guns like Ranbir, Sushant, Ranveer and Arjun. They seem to have some passion for the creative side of cinema. How long it lasts for each, is anyone's guess.

Watch the trailers, read the articles written about it and ask yourselves why you want to watch that movie. Judge a film by the story that unfolds on a big screen. Expect actors to act, instead of allowing a leading man to play the the same role he's played repeatedly for decades.

Somebody needs to tell him there's a reason movies come out on Fridays cuz its the weekend!! People go to unwind at the theatres not for critical analysis. Seriously what common, working man has the time to read articles n ponder n analyze n contemplate over a movie?? Everyone's not a frikkin' movie critic for Lord's sake...most of the people watch a movie for what it is, go home n doze off Tongue
