Yup. Now I got what u was saying

Shareer in Urdu shararti -- naughty

Shareer in Hindi --- body

Same as

Karam in Hindi -- karma -- action

Karam in Urdu -- blessing

Yeah Sara, I wanted to draw attention to the homophonic thing Smile
Thanks Rashi...

Siraat, I guess you mean this word only, it literally means road

It is mostly used for religious references and not to denote any path.
In Quran, there is reference to a path of fire which needs to be crossed to reach heaven and there is a bridge over it referred to as Siraat which is thinner than any sword in the world and only the righteous will be able to cross it to reach heaven.

This also has reference to Sirat-ul-Mustaqeem which is the path shown by Prophet Mohammed to attain salvation.

If you are meaning seerat, it means character

Sorry I guess I didn't watch that epi with much attention so have no idea what the exact word is

Thanks Sara,
Though I am a Hindu, I've always been in touch with Islamic friends.
My best friend in school was a Muslim as well as my room-mate in college and now my flatmate here where I am working. Wink

And I also have keen interest in reading religious and mythological literature, be it of any religion, hence all the factual stuff.

Err ... well the literal meaning is "bring your buttocks in" for tashreef laiye and likewise for tashreef rakhiye LOL

But it is a very polite way of saying welcome and sit down respectively Wink

P.S. Urdu is a mindblowing language, indecent words bhi kitne acche sound karte hain...

Nikkiie you are a sweet heart LOL

Priya...

Tashreef means as Nikkie told...Wink

Tashreef Laye... please come

Tashreef Rakhye... Please sit

meaning of please is---- Barae Maharbani or Maharbani kar k ----

yaad agaya... "is jalad ki surat daikhi hae ab seerat bhi daikh lo"

seerat means character... how the person is from inside or inactual...
