Shalmali Kholgade (the Aga Bai from Aiyya girl)? She has a very thick Marathi accent. Very unappealing.

I luuuv her...she is among my all time fav singers...she rocked d 90's era...Thumbs Up

On a whole i do agree wid her...today's singers have d advantage of technical instruments...if u listen to dem live dey sound so diff...and she clearly points out to d sustaining thing which is actually true...apart from Shreya and Sunidhi i dont see any female singer being so stable...

I absolutely disagree. The music has changed from the pop 90s but the best part of bollywood is that there are so many genres and styles of music now. Not only that, but the listeners are very willing to hear new experiments. Yes there are short-lived "shallow" songs, but there have also been countless "soulful" numbers too (and there have been quite a few this year). The singers these days are harder to recognize, not because they are not as "mastered" as her but because the competition has gone up. And as a listener I consider that to be a great thing. To blame other singers for the culture shift is shallow IMO...especially since I think this is more Alka being unable to keep with the times than a culture of "bad" music. And also, very interesting that she notes that a singer isn't a good singer until they have a long career.

I can't help but wonder that bollywood has countless movie awards, but does it have the equivalent of the Grammy's? Because I feel it really needs one. These singers, and everyone behind BW's music really needs a chance to shine and perform their work onstage like Pritam did at IIFA with Arijit and (I think?) Rekha Bharadwaj

Old Movies required singers like Alka. Her voice was suitable in those situations but if we see the current movies i think the new singers are doing quite well job according to the movies. If someone hears the old singers in new movies it doesn't give the same fresh touch thats why they keep bringing new singers too.

I don't know what is with old singers. Abhijeet keeps bashing other singers too. If they aren't getting songs that doesn't mean they degrade the other singers. In fact they should encourage them. This is typical jealousy.
