Haider: Why did Shahid Kapoor sit at home for three months?

Shahid Kapoor knew that his decision to go bald for Haider would cost him dearly.

Yet, the actor who loves his hair, just like most people do, agreed to shear those tresses because it was integral to the script. His director, Vishal Bhardwaj also wanted him to grow a beard for the film. Once again, Shahid agreed. However, after accepting the challenges of going bald and sporting a beard, he had to sit at home for three months.

The reasons being that firstly, he had to keep his Haider look under wraps till the director felt it was right for him to go public with it. Secondly, he had to wait for his hair to grow back to start work on his next movie. Yep, going bald did come with its fair share of challenges.

It was snowing practically every day, when VishalBhardwaj was shooting Haider with ShahidKapoor and ShraddhaKapoor in Kashmir.

Judging the extreme weather conditions, the filmmaker would often make on-the-spot decisions. For a particular scene, Shahid was required to take Shraddha for a horse ride. But the crew faced a lot of problems because of continuous snowfall and Vishal decided to call off the shoot.
However, Shahid and Shraddha, who are both adventure junkies, decided to go riding anyway. And, it so happened that Vishal caught them on the camera. Since the candid shot served his purpose, he has decided to include it in the film. Sometimes, play can also help work.

Haider
Haider is the third attempt by Vishal Bharadwaj based on Shakespeare's work after Maqbool (2003) and Omkara (2006). The film is an adaptation of Hamlet wherein Shahid essays the role of Prince Hamlet. The posters and trailer of the film has grabbed many eyeballs. A classic tale, an intense cast and all the buzz, looks like Haider is all set to make a powerful impact.

Shahid Kapoor wins over London, creates hype for HAIDER

For Shahid Kapoor, it is an international outing at just the right time. In the recently held concert at London, he was not just the highlight along with other Bollywood celebrities; but he also displayed a unique mix of hardcore commercial and meaningful cinema by dancing to the tunes of his <i>masala</i> hits while also sharing tidbits around his upcoming film.

This was at O2 Arena, a huge stadium in London, where he performed on songs from R... RAJKUMAR and PHATA POSTER NIKHLA HERO. Meanwhile, there was quite some attention that he fetched for HAIDER, which is due for release on 2nd October.

Sources confirm that once he took the stage, there was no stopping him, courtesy chartbuster tracks like'Gandi Baat', 'Saree Ke Falls Sa', 'Dhating Naach', 'Tu Mere Agal Bagal Hai' and many more. Known for his impeccable timing and superb moves when it comes to dancing with the flow, he soon had audience cheering and hooting for him while he set the stage on fire with his power packed performance.

While he also had company of Sonakshi Sinha and Jacqueline Fernandez, what made the event further special was the fact that many in there quizzed him about HAIDER, his next film with Vishal Bhardwaj after KAMINEY. RAJKUMAR and PHATA POSTER NIKHLA HERO.

Confirms Shahid's spokesperson, "Yes, it has been a wonderful outing for Shahid as well as his fans. Moreover, we have been receiving a lot of requests from the media in London. His performance in HAIDER has created immense buzz and he is happy that even though a couple of months still remain for the film's arrival, audience is already so much interested."

Well, with a unique treatment to boast of, the film does look intriguing enough and now it is up to Shahid and Vishal to recreate the kind of magic that made them a pair in the first place with KAMINEY.

Irrfan Khan has made it clear to Vishal Bhardwaj that his name face and presence must not be used to promoteHaider.

We will therefore not get to see Irrfan Khan in any publicity of Haider.

Says a friend of the actor, "It's a policy decision. Irrfan Khan will do guest appearances only on condition that his name and face are not used for any publicity. Vishal Bhardwaj respects Irrfan's sentiments. The actor's name would be kept completely out of the publicity."

Irrfan is especially particular on the issue as he had an unpleasant experience with the makers of the thriller The Xpose recently.

Says Irrfan's friend, "He did a guest appearance in The Xpose. The makers had promised to keep his name and face out of the publicity. But Irrfan was shocked to see he was featured prominently in the publicity."

Says Irrfan Khan, "I have a guest appearance in Haider. I did it because I love Vishal's work. And I wanted to be part of another Shakespearean adaptation by Vishal after Maqbool."
