On 67th Independence Day, celebs share how important it is to have the freedom to choose the way they live their dreams. Aashka Goradia
I absolutely believe in the freedom of choice. I think that's what we
are born for ' to be free. I certainly got everything in my life. And I
am proud to have parents like mine who have always allowed me to do what
I liked and follow my heart..
Parthiv Patel I
was born in 1985, and feel privileged to be living in a country where
you can choose to live your dreams. I think if you are sincere enough to
pursue your choices, no matter what they are, nobody in India stops you
from doing that. It has been always like that.
Irfan Pathan
I always ask my uncle, who has seen the British rule, about how India
was back then. He tells me how prosperous we were! But I get upset when
people, who haven't been abroad, complain about India. Every nation has
its own problems and having travelled the world, I can say that there
are very few countries like India. We must be proud of the fact that in
spite of facing so many challenges, our country gives so much freedom to
its citizens. I can't even think of living anywhere else!
Rashami Desai
Freedom of choice is very important. Stand up for something, else you
fall ' I've imbibed this philosophy from my parents. I have made my own
choices and my parents always encouraged independence. I could get into
acting and make a career because I was allowed to take decisions on my
own by my parents.
Shashank Vyas I believe in
freedom totally. If you are in a cage, it doesn't matter how beautiful
feathers you have or how high you can fly. Freedom of choice is like a
lifeline. My career decisions have been mine. It's my life and I am
responsible for my choices ' be it success or failure. I take everything
in my stride and live life with absolute freedom and take things one
day at a time.
Barun Sobti Freedom of choice
is a right and I thoroughly believe in it. I have always done what I
liked to. I have a sensible family and they never forced me to do
anything. They have always liked and supported my decisions. Karan Kundra
Basically I belong to a doctor's family, yet I got to study business '
choose my school and college. As I grew older and had to choose my
career, my dad took care of the entire business and I chose to be an
actor ' I have got an out and out support for being an actor too. I
always got to make my own decision.
Shibani Kashyap I chose to be in the
entertainment
industry, which itself shows that I had the freedom of choice and I
thank my parents for that. Even though the entertainment industry is
highly competitive and a risky profession they gave me complete support
to do what I wanted to. It's very important to have the freedom to
choose what you wish to do. Otherwise you curb an individual's growth.
Karan Tacker
l I feel every individual should make their own choice ' make mistakes
and learn from them and at the same time take credit for the success
too. I have been fortunate for having parents who have allowed me to be
myself.
Shalmali Kholgade l Freedom of choice
puts a lot of faith in the individuals. It assumes that individuals are
conscientious. I think a combination of an upbringing that allows one to
see the ups and downs of one's choice, coupled with the freedom to make
that choice, would be ideal. While growing up I was only told about the
repurcurssions I might have to face because of the choices I make, but
was never forced into anything. And that's made all the difference.
Rithvik Dhanjani
l I definitely believe in freedom of choice, and of course I am doing
what I wanted to do in life, but everything didn't come easy as my
parents are
orthodox
and it took time to prove myself to them ' first make sure that they
place their trust in me that I am capable of going away from them and
doing what I wanted to do. And everybody deserves this freedom and they
should have the right to do what they like, but keeping his or her
limitations in mind and not hurting anybody or anyone in the process.
Jay Soni
Freedom of choice is like oxygen. My mother has always encouraged this
and so has my brother. Freedom of expression has always been encouraged
at our home. I have followed my instincts while taking up a show, for
that matter any important decision and it has worked in my favour.
Karanvir Bohra
Freedom of choice is very important for youngsters, provided we don't
misuse it. I belong to a traditional Marwari family, but my parents have
always been forward in their thinking. I'd like to thank them for
inculcating the right values in me, which enables me to make the right
choices in life.
Adaa Khan I believe in the
power of freedom. I was always given a freedom to make a career choice
just like a boy would be given. My parents supported me always. Because
of my late mother's encouragement and blessings I am what I am ' a
responsible person and an actress. My parents' trust is the key to my
career and growth.
Aditya Redij I am thankful to my parents who allowed me to make my choices in life. They encouraged me to play
sports
when I was interested in them during school days, studies in college
and now my career option (acting). They have been completely supportive
and have allowed me to do what I have wanted to.
Kushal Tandon
I have always got the freedom to select and choose, and I am sure I
will get in future too. I feel blessed to have such lovely parents who
allow me to follow my
heart and make my own decisions.
Aman Verma
I chose my acting career against my family's wishes. My father was in
army and married a fauji's daughter only so everyone wanted me to get
into army. I followed my heart and came to Mumbai to become an actor.
Parents must give freedom to children to take their own career
decisions. You can't force anyone to do anything. One must choose the
career which makes one happy.
Aishwarya Sakhuja
Freedom of choice does not come to us in the form of a country's
constitution, but by god himself. I completely believe in it. I got the
opportunity in the form of my parents to let me do what I wanted to, and
even if my choice or desire was curbed I found a way nonetheless.
Shaleen Malhotra
I think it's a person's right to choose and I have been blessed to have
such lovely family and people around me who have always supported and
motivated me in whatever I chose in life. It's important for one to
choose what they like and dislike.
Roshni Chopra
Freedom of choice is something I was brought up with. As a child my
parents taught me that I should be accountable for all my decisions as
they never enforced their wishes upon me. This freedom helped me to be
fearless and responsible at the same time.
Vahbbiz Dorabajee
Freedom of choice is as important as chocolate is to a child ' a breath
of fresh air that you can't do without. I've have always followed my
heart and exercised my career choices accordingly. I'm doing what I love
and I love what I do. At the same everyone can't get everything in
life. You need to make the most of whatever you get in life. I have
lived my life and career the way I wanted to, but surely there is always
more scope because you want to do more in life and career.
Rakesh Paul
I absolutely believe in the power of freedom. My parents gave me
absolute freedom and I came from Ajmer to Mumbai to try my luck in
acting. Career decision is one of the most important things in life and I
am happy that I could chose to do what I love doing the most (acting). I
have a daughter and I will give her freedom to explore the career
opportunities when she grows up.
