Small show, big Draw

T2 decodes the curious phenomenon called taarak mehta ka ooltah chashmah

We first met the Gadas of Gokuldham four years ago. Today, without much fuss, Jethalal Gada and his family and friends have become an integral part of our weekday TV viewing. Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah on SAB TV (Monday to Thursday at 8.30pm) is a phenomenon, finding a place in the hearts of the viewer and a permanent slot in the top 10 TRP charts. What makes this laugh riot tick? t2 peers through the lens to find out.

FAMILY FUN: The drama centres around Jethalal (Dilip Joshi), the owner of an electronics store, his wife Daya (Disha Vakani) and their family in Gokuldham Society. Taarak Mehta (Sailesh Lodha) is their neighbour and the narrator of the show. The lives, loves and laughter as well as the trials and tribulations of the residents of Gokuldham Society comprise the daily goings-on of the show. What works? The sticky situations the characters get into bring on the laughs as well as impart some lessons about life. Most importantly, the comedy is clean, making the show a fun family watch.

RELATIBILITY FACTOR: The Gadas could be your friends... your neighbours... or even you. The slice-of-drama comedy has characters that could belong to any housing society in any part of the country. Family matters, in-law issues, job-related stress or the pangs of seeing children grow up ' Taarak Mehta mirrors real life. Our favourites, besides Jethalal? Wife Daya who is a simpleton and is ready to break into a garba jig at the drop of a dandiya and Jetha's mischievous son Tapu.

From the dangers of allowing knee-high kids to carry mobile phones to school to episodes on environment conservation and cancer awareness, the show has its heart in the right place. BOLLY COMES TO GOKULDHAM: Such is the popularity of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah that every Bolly star promoting a latest release makes it a point to be on the show. What makes Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah a special show !!!

Gokuldham Society'.. any bells ringing''.. I am sure that most of you might relate this society to Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah. Did you know that In August 2010, it beat Balika Vadhu to become the most watched TV show in India. And is by far the longest-running daily comedy show on Indian television. So what makes this show special'..? Is it the story or the characters!!! Don't worry, we will soon find the answer to this question.

Let's start with what this show is all about. The Gokuldham society is where all the action happens. It is a society with Gujarati, Marathi, Punjabi, Tamilian, Bengali, Parsi families staying together. They just don't stay together, but also share their joys and sorrows. Every festival is being celebrated with the same vigor as any other festivals. Every family participates in the events organised by the society members.

The Show is been anchored by Mr Taarak Metha, who is a writer by profession and Jetha Bhai's best friend. He is accompanied by his wife Anjali Mehta, who is always worried about his husbands diet and ends up offering him some amazing dishes Taarak Metha can also be described as the life saver of Jetha Lal. Talking about the main characters of the show, Dilip Joshi ie Jethalal Champaklal Gada and Disha Vakani ie Daya Jethalal. The show revolves around their family. It also includes Tipendra Jethalal Gada (a.k.a. Tapu), Champaklal Jayantilal Gada ie Dadaji and one and only one brother of Daya Bhabi, Sundar (a.k.a. Sundarlal). You will notice that in almost every eposide, Jethalal is surrounded with problems and issues. There are some amazing moments in the show when Daya Ben and Sundar get together and then Jethalal's expressions are worth watching. And to top it all Daya Bhabi's Garba, it is a icing on the cake.

Mr Bhide ie Aatmaram Tukaram Bhide who is a teacher by profession, is accompanied by his wife Madhavi Bhide, and their daughter Sonu Bhide. Madhavi is famous for her "achaar" and "papad". Mr Bhide is Jethalal's best friend'. Hang on hang on '. You know what I meant by best friend. He never leaves a chance to complain about the mischiefs of Tapu and Tapu sena'.. I know you are waiting to hear about Mr Krishnan Iyer and his wife Babita. Jethalal always tries to impress Babita ji and ends up flirting with her and who can ignore the cold war between Iyer and Jethalal. Now let's meet the Sher of Gokuldham Society, Roshan Singh Sodhi and his wife Mrs Roshan. He is a happy-go-lucky person and always super charged to take on any problems that arise in the society. His son Gogi too is full of fun and an important part of Tapu Sena. Meet Mr Hansraj Hathi, and his wife Komal Hathi, who is worried about the eating habbits about her husband and their son Goli.

I am sure that ladies watching the show look forward to the Kitty Parties and the gossip that happen on regular basis and the gents that gather at Abdul's Shop to have Soda almost every night. Am I missing something'. Well, you right, who can miss Toofan Express ie Patrakar Popatlal, who is in search of his dream girl and his famous lines "cancel kardo" and "duniya hila doonga." Hang on there are a few more interesting characters that end up troubling Jethalal ie Nattu Kaka and his nephew Bhaga. They end up creating problems for Jetha Bhai at his Shop (unknowingly)

Tapu's Marriage Sequence [Dec,2008] : It was amazing track where with the wish of Bapuji & Dayaben,Tapu was married to Tina, But Jethalal was full unhappy with the child-marriage because he was in Jail,but it would be dream...It was the great fun & with it,the show got it's 1st successes.

GPL-1 [May,2009]: An idea from IPL, the show created GPL - Gokuldham Premier Leag , it was become very popullar & with this, the show got ,it's 1st eye-balls.

Jethalal In London [September,2009]: It was another huge popularity when Jetha got tickets to go in London,the show got higher TRPs at the time & Kairy,The English Girl came into this.

The 1St time in Ahmedabad [January,2010] : In the show, the team of Tarak Mehta,go to the Mega-city Ahmedabad the maayaka of Dayabhabhi & the show shows the city as well as celebrates Uttarayan festivals.

GPL 2 [ June-2010] : In the show, to give the fight the new comer of SAB TV,they had shown GPL-2 in Juner-2010 & became another big hit for the show.

Bhootni Track [August-2010] : The big track of the show,in which the show defeat the big successive show of Colors Balikavadhu in 1St time & Star's Biddai . The huge suspension track & got highest TRPs in the history 5.0.

Jethalal in Pakistan [Jan,2011] : With this track,they had promoted "Khushbu Gujarat Ki" & made the highest creative balls with it the Jetha trapped in Pakistan Jail & the show top again all GECs.

Competing the journey of 1000 episodes[Nov, 6 ,2012]: In Nov,2012 the comedy show made it's popularity as higher as with completing 1000 episodes & created history in Indian Television-the longest running comedy show in history of India.

Gulabo [Dec,2012 & Jan ,2013] : The unremarkable track in history of the show, The longest running track of 1.5 months,the 2Nd wife of Jethalal,i t became huge hit,as the show became no. 01 position in Indian TV, With it show became no. 01 with 4.5 TRPs.

Last but not least SHERU-the dog track[currently onair] : Currently,the show witness the dog track of SHERU,which become very popular & show state in Top -03 .

Khote Classes Track[ July,2013] : The social messages on classes business ...are shown by very unique & famous track.
