Episode 146

This is my 50th poem and it is dedicated to a girl who could have easily been the reason of breaking up of a united family, but wasn't. A girl who could have easily disregarded the wishes of her boyfriend's family, but didn't. A girl who could have easily become someone who was cheated, but wasn't. A girl who had every reason to hate the new girl in her man's life, but didn't. A girl who could have easily turned into a scheming jealous girlfriend, but didn't. A girl who could have been hated by everyone, but infact went on to win everybody's hearts, except the one heart that she yearned for, the most. This poem is dedicated to Lavanya, a girl in love.

A Girl in Love

She was a girl who loved short dresses
Who always fulfilled her man's wishes
She entered his home amidst many glitches
For she was a girl ... in love

She agreed to be trained by a junior
She befriended her and kept her near
She changed inward and also exterior
For she was a girl ... in love

She knew there's no love from the other side
This, from herself she tried hard to hide
Every fact she ignored and to herself she lied
For she was a girl ... in love

At last she let go her life's dreams
She had to heed to all the facts' screams
But it pained her while leaving her treasured realms
For she was a girl ... in love

She proved she belonged to an esteemed culture
She could have become a vampish vulture
But she chose to be a dove
For she was a girl ... in love

good update for Lavanya Durga nice song

brilliant.
every words, every lines depicts La's greatness, her broadness, her sincerity, her sensibility.
such an innocuous soul she is!
Really you make my eyes blur by your words.
I bow down to Lavanya, who I used to hate once.

Some thoughts...

Over the weekend, I couldn't log into IF. Had a short visit by some close relatives who whisked us away alongwith them on their onward journey to nearby locations. Didn't mind as they were here after a long time. But was missing IF terribly. Among other places we visited some ancient temples. One of them was a Shiva-Parvati temple which was quite big. As we were roaming around the huge corridors, at a particular place I felt a sense of peace and calm, the tale of Shiva-Parvati was being narrated and suddenly I had Arnav and Khushi in mind. Having read about their similarity to the deities earlier in the forum, I couldn't help but recollect how true it was. Arnav, the angry man being calmed down by Khushi by simply laying her hand on him, and then they proceed to do their own cosmic dance and become one, just like Ardh Nareeswar (United Shiva Parvati, half man, half woman). Arnav and Khushi, complete each other in every way. Was amazed with my train of thoughts, wondering why am I thinking about a fictional couple at that time, though I felt really overwhelmed at the similarity. But certain doubts remained, am I going overboard with my craziness with IPK?

And then I come back to the room, browsing the thread on my phone and discover the conversation between Indi and IssPKaur about Khushi and women in general being robbed of their individualities in the guise of love and care.Nothing relating to my thoughts above, but I was really touched with the discussion and realised that it is perfectly sane to be mad about a TV serial. Thank you Indi, Issk and everybody else who keep digging deeper and try to bring out the hidden aspects upfront.

Happy to be part of something, like a balm which soothes
Rambling, to my heart's content, without worrying about the length of the spaces
It is thrilling, while writing, to discover a rhyming word
Thank you for keeping us sane, in this crazy crazy world.

now you're talking, durga... aah what a lovely piece. of course, it is most natural to wander off to asr khushi at the mention of any fabled couple... and you're talking the cosmic jodi. shiva the wild one, smoking pot, hanging out with the guys, ungroomed, spaced out, but utterly pure and elevated, gorgeous in parvati's eyes, she with a father who stood firmly against the union (what a plot). i am not much of a temple goer, though sometimes i hear a call and land up or have a dire need and rush off... but that image of the not perfect yet fabulous male, with his immense anger... his dance of rage... his wife completely immersed in him, and he in her... mmm i am not surprised you thought of some people.

every great love story leading to union through that indescribable feeling called love is at some level the same, isn't it? which is why, radha krishna was brought up so many times i guess in ipk, only that they subverted the whole thing... she was his mami they say, and he the lover of thousands of gopis, they never married, yet was there ever a greater love epic in our land... what maturity thousands of years ago, that understanding of a feeling.

glad my chat with isspkaur helped you feel less lunatic.

Durga!

You speak with such clarity always. Arnav and Khushi, an eternal couple they are through their massive following... eulogized to mythic proportions, almost... so even though i initially balked at the idea that there've been discussions comparing them to deities, I do totally get it as well. And Indi has made it come alive with the mention of the "
not perfect yet fabulous male, with his immense anger... his dance of rage... his wife completely immersed in him, and he in her" (Wah mere ocean!) They are in our lives whether we like it or not...i make in my head references to them in the oddest of places...not to mention anything remotely in the region of ishq pyaar mohobbat.

I loved the lines :
Happy to be part of something, like a balm which soothes
Rambling, to my heart's content, without worrying about the length of the spaces
...is exactly how i feel!

There is sukoon here, and soch, asli waali...and you all so warm it makes meHeart DancingParty

I just love it here.  We are from different backgrounds and from different cultures and religions, young and old but we have a common bond in this serial.  This couple transcends boundaries made by the world.  I love the fact, Durga, that you saw our couple's love similar to the one they say some deities had.  A love that needed no ties but still occurred because they were soul mates.  They could never be kept apart for they were bound for eternity always.
On another note, don't you just love walking through places of worship no matter what religion.  The spirit of the Divine is always there to bring peace, calm and serenity.  Fullness of body and soul just by walking quietly, possibly meditating and breathing in the incense, seeing the soft candlelight or brilliant flaming fire, aaahhh instant peace.

Thank you Durgey for these great thought in the morning!! its when i read stuff like this that makes me feel sane too and really makes me think. you know, the makers were just making their product but some how became so much more and i refuse to believe that they are just fictional characters.  call me crazy but to me they are as real as can be and when they have so much impact on people that they are kept alive in so many ways after their "fictional" life is supposted to be over...through FF, though blast thread, through VMs, there is really something to it.  anyway i hope i making some sense!! i guess i'm trying to say is, it can't be a coincidence that so many of can feel such connection to these characters. You know sometime people are just meant to come in our lives, and they came in our lives just the same with some purpose. They make us reach parts of ourselves, make us feel, make us think.

ok need to get ready for work and hope i can play be bit of catch up today! thanks for sharing again Durgey!Hug

Thank you all for these lovely comments.

Indi, lovely description above in bold italics in your comment. I have always loved the Shiv-Parvati dance, so graceful, so much in tandem and just magnificent. And also the Shiv Tandav, so full of vigour and powerful, yet graceful. Not surprising I thought of our magical couple. Smile

IssK, it is so true, so much sukoon here and look at the range of topics we discuss, from the silly ones to the most serious ones. That is why, wherever we go, we yearn to come back here.

Cynthia, loved what you wrote in pink bold above. I yearn for such places. Unfortunately, due to commercialisation I find hard to get that peace in many temples. I have felt that peace in very few places of worship. Am happy with the little Mandir in my home. It is just me, my deities and my little Pooja procedure. I get my peace from there. Smile

Ami, agree with the above in bold in your comment. If not for this show, we all wouldn't even have met at all and each and every one of us are bonding so well with one another. This is really magical. Big smile

I am liking this discussion. Ok can you believe I saw love in between Arnav and Khushi and they were a fictional character and we have rarely seen love, we may have felt it. I was also reading Indi and IssP s discussion on love. If considering ARSHI both are flawed but the fact is they recognize those flaws and those flaws make them stick. Anyway there is a saying you would rather have a relationship smooth like butter because at any given moment if you tilt, it will slip. Better

episode 139

Hello Indus the Ocean Smile

Happy i wrote what was on top of my head when i thought of 139...and it triggered a wave from you. I've been MIA since y'day and just read it... you guys have leapt and bounced some 8/9 pages so I'm feeling obsolete and all.. archaic almost! But guess it's okay backtracking to this... for this is the theme of everything. Who we are, why we are the way we are, why we obsess about this show, come back to it wherever we might go or it might go, think of the Raizada oh so very very often, and express as fervently and whole heartedly as we do... the theme runs through all of the above.

I can only speak specifically for myself when i refer to self-doubt in a woman... or in other instances, to my absolute undying love for a man with flaws. I see flaws as flags...but in a good way really... as signs, that we are still alive and taking on the world with spirit. Willing to change when possible. It turns me on like nothing else. And yes, i may speak for myself but i know it must resonate. Which is why some of us are here in the first place. In the specific is the universal, they say. At the end of the day then, we may express things differently, but we all share the flaws. We have all made mistakes. Some big ones too. Kya ye sab "mahaanta" shahaanta. Bahut hui yeh 60's Hindi movie style bakwaas, channeled these days as 'nayi soch'. Let's get real. It does not exist.

Jo aapne bola...marked in blue i have...I relate to fully. Kusoor patriarchy ka hai, whatever most men might say or think. We are some of the fortunate ones whose fathers didn't stop them from anything, whose brothers believe their sisters are goddesses (well, at least most of the time!) and whose voices can be louder than their thoughts. But (and when is there not a but!) that collected, collective history... It lurks and sometimes it surfaces. Society creeps in. i don't want to give a damn but I have to pick my battles. I'll burn out if i fight for every single small thing...

Khushi talks to me because in her vulnerability, i see myself. Her decision of not telling him about Shyam frustrated me no end. But a part of me bought it - the part which makes mistakes, and which doubts the self. (And of course, I'm only referring to episodes 139 and around here... the time when she first found out about Shyam. Not the ludicrous post-forced-marriage crap by which time she had lost sense in all its forms, and didn't know what to do with that sweet sweet sexy man who was hurting so).
I have always been drawn to the selflessness in Khushi. But the writers offered a simple, one-dimensional explanation here, relying too heavily on the same quality: this is a selfless girl, she is not thinking of her own self, she is doing it for the feelings of the Raizada who is devoted to his sister, as also for the sake of the sister herself who she has come to love and respect. Ho hum, i thought, you just want to stretch the story, and didn't buy it at first. Selflessness and resourcefulness are not mutually exclusive, and Khushi had given proof of that many a times. So then...why not now? She could've found a way of telling him, surely. But then I thought about it...I decided to ignore the writers and their intent.. and i saw it as a mistake she had made. She may have doubted herself, i felt, cos it was coming from her OWN suffering. If Anjali di had suffered Shyam's evil skunky duplicity in some other way, independent of Khushi... and Khushi had found out... would she have thought twice about telling that fabulous devoted brother? NEVER. She would've gone all out to save 'Di'. Cos it would have been purely about Anjali di's suffering. But not this time...this was about herself. One doubts one's own suffering and it's validity. I know i do, sometimes...and a lot of my girlfriends do too. So there.

As for the Raizada man, there is a timeless sophistication there which kills. A flawed man of the rare variety. Makes mistakes, but does not ever hide behind them. Does not pretend like it never happened. Finds a way of acknowledging and correcting truthfully, not for "mahaanta". I love him for that. It inspires me... truly madly deeply. And indeed, "a man who lets us... no, makes us... speak and wants to hear our voice." I couldn't agree more!!

IssP, if you felt archaic for missing 8 pages, I feel totally lost having missed almost the entire thread and extracting this great convo from almost a week ago.

You know, from any angle Khushi's/Gupta's refraining the truth and depriving the Raizada's from the truth did n't make sense.  The underlined lines, exactly the reason Khushi should have told Anjali.. and I found it the most weird that she thought Anjali is NOT suffering now sleeping with a cheat?! Doing that she was fueling Anjali's denial and living in a bubble of eternal patriarchal families! Of course she is this young and nave girl bitten from so many corners. But one has to realize one's weakness if not rectify it that one can't fix everything!
And, I must confess the day ASR thanked Khushi for bringing Shyam back some thing inside me just died...why my man is letting hypocrisy rule?!!

Yes, indi is truly an Indus in many ways.. ..reminds me of the rich civilization of that valley... where new hopes and generations sprung.. like our hopes for season 2 that dear Indi keeps alive!

Hai re nandkisore!! Humney exam wala paper likha!! How long is that post above EmbarrassedEmbarrassedEmbarrassed!!!!!

I agree with you. Worst decision ever not to disclose Shyam's vile ways to ASR and Co at the time. And then she held on to it forever after... like it was some top secret that would destroy the planet! Choked the whole show with shyam ji shyam ji shyam ji...di ke pati di ke pati di ke pati...Such paagalpan.

And never mind how it finally came out... that Karz-ed performance was...oh let's not go there...

Hello everyone. I apologize for barging in. Now when I was watching the episodes the first time I went through each second because I really wished Khushi would tell Anjali. Now it was after my one month sulk and so of course was anticipating through the whole process that Khushi would tell at least one of the Guptas, if not Anjali or Arnav at least Nani or Mami because they were rational elders. Also it was not a wise decision at all for letting Khushi tell Raizadas, since she was the youngest in the Gupta family, would have thought at least buaji would go and tell Nani especially considering Shyam was engaged to Khushi.
Then thought- probably because Guptas always made Khushi try and clean up their mess. I liked the Payal supported that the Raizadas should be told and all. Also the fact that Arnav did not tell Khushi he knew about Shyam and Khushi was another nail. This incidents however subtly made me realize like everyone an adult should not be treated like a child wrapped in blankets. Anjali was strong in my opinion considering she raised Arnav. Apart from their parent dying the same day she also had to endure her broken marriage and the incident happening on her wedding day. So if someone can endure that they can endure anything. We have seen how she was always the strong one and hid all her pain for Arnav- the day after Arnav told her, he loves Khushi she accepted the person she was supposed to hate for breaking her own marriage. Just days after she had a miscarriage she gave up her reticence because it was chote's marriage celebrations.  She even forgave the person who she thought played a part in her parents death because of Arnav. IPKKND however showed us that Anjali was stronger then what ARSHI had ever anticipated. She was hysterical when her mangal sutra was torn but later on she herself tore that from her neck.

he is shouting into the phone, beside himself with worry. tense, fearing the worst... mind flying to terrible places as his repeated calls to her are going unanswered. would i panic like that for someone fairly incidental in my life... an essentially faraq nahin padta sort of entity? would i say, don't you ever do that... to me? he is shatir of mind but obviously the shenanigans of his dil are beyond comprehension now.
when he thinks of Khushi he gets weak again and again. But controls his emotions immediately though.

there are only feelings running wild.

two conversations, one at top of episode and the other as episode came to and end, were where it was all at for me. both conversations were had with khushi. in the first one, he succeeded in quickly hiding his feelings, and she was too perturbed, distracted to perhaps notice the glaring gaffes.

in the second one, he couldn't help himself; his feelings, his lowering of guard, his showing of faraq, everything was there... only for khushi. unfortunately he was saying it all to lavanya.
I wish if he could say this words to Khushi. but what happens, happens for good. La could realise ASR'S feelings for Khushi.

he is really like that only, to steal from the famous "v are like that only," tagline for v tv.

every word of the first conversation was classic. this is exactly how your long time lover or husband sounds when you don't pick up the phone for a day... she'd been gone longer in his estimate... an entire couple of hours. the feeling was so new, its intensity stratospheric, its proneness to jump to the worst conclusion worryingly high. today he thought she had been hurt or worse... soon this will make him think the worst of her.Clap
Oh gosh he is a possessive lover for sure.

"khushi, phone kyun nahin utha rahi hai..." why isn't she picking up the phone he muttered as he kept on trying. and when she did pick up the phone, that relief swamped him... he just lost it. all his emotions there in the words that exploded.

"pata hai kabse phone mila raha hoon main... tumne phone kyun nahin uthaya?" do you know for how long i've been trying, why didn't you pick up the phone?!!

she's taken aback at his vehemence.

"kitna pareshan ho gaya tha main,"
i was so worried, his voice is raw, real... he wanted to see, her hug her perhaps, make sure she was ok. yet her voice was all he could hold on to and she didn't say a word. that halted him.

"khushi... khushi talk to me..." silence at the other end, then his three little words, "tum theek ho? kahan ho tum?" where are you?

"hum bilkul theek hain. hum mandir mein hain," she said as calmly as she could, i am ok, i'm at the temple. her world was reeling and this extreme emotion at this point was perhaps too much to handle. she was begging dm to show her the way. weighing competing stories that affected all their lives, wondering how to work it all up to the point where she could reveal shyam's true face without harming anything or anyone.

how does an 18/19 year old cope with this? or does precisely this youth and its resilience itself work i ones favour ultimately?
i really don't know, how cum she is so courageous and strong! I am basically a very weak person and break down easily.

he hears her voice and seems to breathe again.

"aapko fikar karne ki..." you don't have to worry, she starts but he has to cut her short. "fikar" a sense of care in it... and he can't let her think it was that.

"fikar ki baat nahin hai... mera matlab... itna sara kaam baki hai..." it's not about that... i mean there's so much work to be done... lame excuse, man yelling on the phone.

she puts the phone down after saying i had to go... there's so much going through him as he stands there trying to cool down, work off the worry. camera pulls back slowly, la stands in foreground... privy to a conversation and its effect she wished she'd never witnessed.

the entire middle of the episode was bloated with shyam. and begging for some right emotion from the mother and aunt of a girl they called their own. shyam used his usual ploys to try and get khushi to keep quiet. he hoped his "confession" would make them realise what a decent soul he was, he cleverly inserted worries about payal and akash's relationship, especially in light of the fact that payal's baraat had gone back before. love the way he goes for a volley of arrows, hoping something will catch someone... the faces were looking too determined and scathing... surely, someone? and an arrow found its mark. amma. and her fear of payal's shaadi breaking again. satisfied with his handiwork, shyam did some serious lopsided smiling and went off, off course a couple of twitches were added too for good measure.
loved your analysis here. Shyam is smart, he is a great manipulator and know how to play a mind game.

notice how both hero and villain have lopsided smiles. one has us clutching our gut/heart, the other has us quaking/guffawing. naughty director was having a lot of fun at the expense of the ladkiyan... us
Good observation. IPK's creative is good for sure.

thereafter, the tussle over the yes or no of divulging all to anjali. i missed asr for khushi at this point. haq hai tumhara... mujh pe. you have a right over me. possibly the only human being to give her that unstintingly and one who'd defend her rights no matter what. instead of begging titaliya's forgiveness for coercing and forcing her to say yes to shyam, buaji is all righteous rage and advice. and amma? the writers did her grave injustice at this point, or was there a peak into reality in her reaction?
I really ponder your words. Amma's indifference for Khushi irked me so much!

payal is her husband's biological daughter, khushi is her sister's only child, when push came to shove, she seemed to take the side of the one born to her husband... was there a touch of looking after number one by her instincts? perhaps being middle class, the horror of yet another broken marriage for her daughter was too much to bear, she didn't even feel her other daughter's turmoil, her state of mind. she felt no rage against shyam for doing this to her child... just that fear of shame in payal's life stalked her.
indi brilliantly said about garima's state here. How cum a mother can ignore her child in her grievous moment. A real mother just can't act like her. when I feel low, Somehow my mom can feel it and she always gives me extra care that time. but here Khushi is deceived so badly by all of them, but nobody is seeing her griefs! Angry

no one thought of khushi's feelings.

finally, payal stepped in and said, no way, jose... shyam hangs. a clear headed, straight forward sort of girl, with a quiet courage, a fierce love for her sister who came, lost and little, into her life years ago. a girl of a certain stubbornness too... she could have gone far.
but sigh, cvs ruined her character.

as i was thinking this, they cut to this scene. too shatir director/screenplay writer... one ladki stopped thinking immediately.

he sits at his recliner working, remembers her dashing into him at the poolside...  tears, helpless, silent... a slow close up... a world of feelings in  his inward gaze. she is on his mind, constantly.

as his fiance watches, he picks up his phone with a distracted air and fixes a meeting for the sixteenth, the day he is to get engaged. she is shocked. she tries to nudge his memory... fails. then he gets it.

the ultimate, "oh shucks" expression as he turns away... soon there's a layer of remorse.

"tell me the truth asr, kya tum sach mein bhoole the...ya fir tumhe koi faraq hi nahin padta..." la can't just let this pass, she keeps seeing things and the warning signs are too many to ignore. she decides to check out the scene... tell me, asr, did you really forget or does it not matter to you anyway.

"nahin... it's..." he's not himself at all... feeling strange... this engagement that he called upon himself... "it's not that... i'm really sorry... woh itti saari cheese handle karta hoon kabhi kabhi kuch pata hi nahin chalta..." no really, it's not that, i'm really sorry, i keep doing so many things, sometimes i just don't know what i do...

"itti saari..." was this just by chance or deliberate? the only other time i have heard asr use the more colloquial way of saying itna or itni was during that terrible and beautiful fight of first august. "itta aasan hai tumhare liye?" usually he'd say "itna" or "itni." maybe this was just barun slipping into easier pronouciation, but worked like a dream... a telltale slip indicating his heightened emotional state, the so rigid and precise world of asr not that much in control?Clap
wow what a keen observation. never thought like this.

he knows this is all wrong. he walks away and with his back to her, his classic stance, he starts an apology that will lead to the realisation of a truth by lavanya... though still a tad unclear to him (slow boy, in matters of dil).
slow and steady wins the race. He went really slow to express his love. That's why his love is so strong, not so fragile.

"main janta hoon kijaane anjane mein maine tumhe bahut chot pahunchai hai..." his mind was so on khushi, not yet disengaged from her... i know, knowingly and otherwise i've hurt you a lot.

la looks up, surprised.

"woh iss liye... but that's because... iss liye kyunki mujhe kabhi pata hi nahin chalta... it's because i never really know... par phir jab realise karta hoon... but then when i realise it... i really regret it.. i ... i really do..."

la is smiling, beginning to walk toward him...

"bahut bura lagta mujhe... par main kuch kabhi jaankar nahin karta, khushi, main bas..." i feel really bad... but i never do anything knowing what i'm doing, khushi, i'm just...

khushi. la hears the name and seems to freeze. he still has no idae what he's just said... he carries on, la can't stop him.

"main bas aisa hi hoon, shayad main..." i am like this, maybe i...

la has to make him stop. for her sake. for his sake. she puts her hand on his shoulder

"asr, it's lavanya." that's all... that's enough. more effective than a moral lecture, a diatribe.

he turns around... shocked at himself... at the whole thing.

this is one of those unbelievably beautiful scenes of ipk which makes it a classic. a man in love, completely unaware that that's what it is, is making a confession of his shortcomings to the woman he loves, little realising it is not her but his fiance standing there listening. when he is in such deep emotion there seems to be only one person he reaches out to, whether she is there... or not.ClapClapClap

sublime insight into a state of mind. and of course, barun sobti's acting leaves you shaken to the core. this is a real man talking here... a soliloquy so beautiful, it would get etched in our minds... "main bas aisa hi hoon," words that would become quotable in no time.ClapClapClap

Your cognitive insight always makes me amused.
specially last two stanzas was written wonderfully.
How much Arnav can hide, but when he is worried for Khsuhi, his emotions, his concern comes out involuntarily. The trend started from the guest house incident. His feelings and concern for her escalated more in Nainital and now it's getting out of his control. And there is no doubt that he is a possessive lover. So that he couldn't bear her engagement with someone else.

All the bold lines grabbed my attention and my comments are in pink.
learned a new word, soliloquy.
