Shane Watson in awe of Rahul Dravid

Shane Watson seemed to be in awe of Rahul Dravid's batting and said the former India captain is batting like he used to bat in his early 20s.

Shane Watson on Tuesday spoke reverently of the influence and guidance of Rahul Dravid, stating that the former India skipper was a constant source of inspiration for him and Rajasthan Royals.

"Rahul as a person is one of the most amazing people whom I have met in my life. He has got utmost respect from all the players, from all the support staff. He is doing an amazing job as a captain. Paddy Upton our coach this year, him and Rahul have worked extremely well this year," Watson said after his side jumped to second spot in the points table with a nine-wicket win over Delhi Daredevils.

"The ultimate challenge for a team is to have a successful culture and that's something we have achieved at the moment. It starts at the top with great like Rahul Dravid. He is doing an amazing job and Paddy Upton certainly complementing him," he said.

Watson seemed to be in awe of Dravid's batting and said the former India captain is batting like he used to bat in his early 20s.

"Rahul is batting extra-ordinarily, he certainly has a long way to go in his career the way he is batting at the moment. I think just about the world cricket would never thought that Dravid could take down bowlers like he has, it's been amazing to watch him. For me, Dravid bats like he is batting in his early20s. He has got few more years in him."

Watson said the team is playing some great cricket this season.

"We are very close to play-off; there is no doubt about that. We have been playing very good cricket at the moment. But we still need to finish it off strongly. To get to the finals, certainly we have got the quality players," he said.

Rajasthan now play their remaining matches away from home except one against Chennai Super Kings on Sunday and Watson said they are confident of changing their poor away record.

"It does not make much of a difference. If it's a good cricket wicket, then I think good cricket can be played anywhere. In Jaipur, the T20 wickets are very good, there is pace and bounce in the wicket. Ball turns a little bit but not a hell of a lot.

"It's true to other parts of the country as well. In the end, it's just we need to adapt quickly to the conditions; we certainly got the quality players to put in a performance that we know we are known for," he said.

Watson, however, conceded that bowling remains a concern.

"Bowling is something we are certainly going to keep working on. I believe our bowling, at times, has been a little inconsistent. But we have pretty young bowling squad. Twenty20 is built around scoring runs. It does provide a big challenge to the bowlers, we have got the talent, and we have got the skills within our bowling unit. I know in the next couple of games, we will have complete performance with both bat and ball," he signed off.

ajasthan Royals clinch 2nd spot after win over KXIP in IPL

Rajasthan Royals achieved the 146-run target at the loss of two wickets with six balls to spare against Kings XI Punjab. This was a superbly paced chase by Rajasthan. They lost their skipper, Dravid early but Rahane and Watson steadied the ship with a wonderful stand for the second wicket. Chawla cleaned up Watson, but the crowd was then treated to a fine exhibition of batting from Rahane and young Samson as they took their team to a 9th win for the season. They have one foot in the playoffs and going by the way they have played this season, certainly deserve to be in the position they are at the moment.

Halla Bol !!

Rahul Dravid, Ajinkya Rahane guide Rajasthan Royals to crushing win over Delhi Daredevils

Rahul Dravid cracked seven boundaries to score 53

Rahul Dravid and Ajinkya Rahane slammed half-centuries to power Rajasthan Royals to a crushing nine-wicket win over the Delhi Daredevils in the 52nd match of IPL 2013 tournament on Tuesday. With this win, Rajasthan moved to the second spot in IPL points table.

Chasing a target of 155, Rajasthan cruised to a comprehensive win with more than two overs to spare.

Dravid (53) and Rahane (63 not out) added 108 runs for the first wicket, while Shane Watson got a quick 14-ball 28 not out towards the end to power Royals to a big win.

In their chase of 155, Rajasthan openers Dravid and Rahane started off on a cautious note initially and then opened up to score runs on both sides of the wicket. Dravid flicked Siddharth Kaul in the air towards the deep midwicket area in the third over for a boundary, and got the same result when he got a leading edge flying over the fielders on the on-side.

Dravid got into the groove with a classic stroke off Morne Morkel once again towards the deep midwicket region on the last ball of the fifth over, and slapped a slow delivery by Ajit Agarkar straight over umpire Aleem Dar's head after deflecting from bowler's hand, in the next as Rajasthan raced to 49/0 after six overs.

Agarkar's first over got 13 runs for the home side.

Rahane, on the other hand, got a lifeline in the fifth over off Morkel when Pawan Negi dropped a difficult chance, and was lucky on one more instance off Morkel when he got an inside edge missing the stumps and racing away to the boundary, on the first ball of the eighth over.

Dravid and Rahane gave no opportunity to the Delhi bowlers, and easily nudged the ball along the park to keep adding runs for the Royals and picked boundaries every now and then.

Delhi captain Mahela Jayawardene introduced Ben Rohrer in the 12th over with hope to cut down the scoring rate, but Dravid lifted him over the cover region for a boundary and Rahane flicked the last ball for a boundary towards fine-leg area to collect 12 from the over.

The Royals crossed the 100-run mark in the 13th over of the game off Morkel, with skipper Dravid also completing his well-made half-century. The lanky South African didn't trouble the Rajasthan openers much, with the odd ball rising high and beating the edge. Dravid, on one such instance, was beaten by the pace and bounce as the ball hit the shoulder of the bat and landed safely, with Dravid taking a single to reach his fifty.

It was in the 14th over when the Daredevils made the first breakthrough, with Dravid falling to Kaul after a fluent 53 off 48 balls, caught by Agarkar at long-on. The Rajasthan captain cracked seven boundaries during his stay at the crease.

Rahane completed his half-century with a single off Umesh Yadav in the 15th over, and Shane Watson, who walked in after Dravid's fall, clobbered 12 runs from the remaining five balls to mark a confident start.

Watson, who is in a rich form, clobbered three boundaries and a six to race to 28 not out from 14 balls.

Rahane remained unbeaten on 63 from 45 balls, studded with five boundaries and a six.
