CSK Vs RR
Playing their last match on home soil, Rajasthan would look to consolidate their position in the points table and upstage top-placed Chennai when the two most balanced sides clash at the Sawai Mansingh stadium in Jaipur.

Rajasthan

Team News: Rajasthan are sitting pretty in the point table with 9 wins from 13 matches. Rahul Dravid has been inspirational in his leadership and has led his boys from the front. The hosts would hope to put one across the table-toppers after the heart-breaking loss they suffered on the penultimate ball of the match against Chennai.

Ajinkya Rahane, Rahul Dravid and Shane Watson have been the mainstay of Rajasthan's batting. The Australian has given the innings the impetus at the start while the other two have looked to bat throughout and anchor the innings. Sanju Samson, the talented youngster has been a revelation and has come up with impressive knocks under pressure.

James Faulkner has led the pace attack with aplomb. He has been well supported by Kevon Cooper. Shane Watson and the off-spinner, Ajit Chandila have also provided the important breakthroughs and kept the batsmen in check.

In form player: Ajinkya Rahane has been very impressive and shown glimpses of his class over the past few matches. He has batted with responsibility and changed gear as and when the situation has demanded.

Hit: Sanju Samson has been quietly but surely making a name for himself through his batting exploits for Rajasthan. He has come up with little cameos at crucial moments in the match. Apart from having the gift of timing he has displayed a cool temperament and a sense for the occasion.

Miss: S Sreesanth has been quite disappointing and has not made much of an impact for Rajasthan yet. He has just picked up 5 wickets from 7 matches and has gone for a few runs as well.

Team form: Last Encounter: Beat Punjab by 8 wickets.

Chennai:

Team News: Chennai are on the brink of qualifying for the playoffs and unless luck on the field and otherwise runs out for them, they have made sure they have done enough to move into the business end of the tournament. The confidence is sky-high and the spirit and the morale upbeat.

The top order has been in scintillating form for the visitors. Michael Hussey is currently the holder of the Orange Cap for the most runs in the League. Suresh Raina has come into his own and MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja have provided the cameos at crucial moments at the death.

Dwayne Bravo, with 21 wickets, holds the Purple Cap for the leading wicket taker in the League thus far. He has been well supported by the likes of Mohit Sharma and Chris Morris. R Ashwin and Jadeja have also done a good job in containing the batsmen and picking up wickets at crucial junctures.

In form player: Michael Hussey has been in tremendous form in the tournament. He has hit 574 runs at an average of 57.40 from 12 matches.

Hit: Suresh Raina has been in Red-Hot form for Chennai. His ability to clear the boundary at will makes him one of the most dangerous batsmen in the format. He has also shown a keen eagerness to bat for longer periods and control the innings.

Miss: Murali Vijay hasn't exactly set the house on fire and has been struggling up the order. He has just aggregated 153 from 10 matches. His strike rate has also been poor.

Team form: Last Encounter: Beat Hyderabad by 77 runs.

Must Read: Rahul Dravid – 'Never say die'

A few men are born with the destiny to attain greatness. And a very few embody great virtues to become even greater. Rahul Dravid belongs to the latter category of men. A man for all seasons and formats, he has just been proving that wisdom comes along with age and experience. Widely considered as a Test specialist, he has proved his critics wrong by playing sensible T20 cricket at the age of 40, being the oldest active Indian cricketer in the cash-rich Indian Premier League. Not only that, but he has also inspired a young and inexperienced Rajasthan Royals squad enough to raise a few eyebrows, to emerge as the surprise package of this season's Indian Premier League.

Navjot Singh Sidhu once said of Dravid, "Rahul is a person who will walk on broken glasses if his team asks him to." And so true is that statement, as Dravid has given his best, or has rejuvenated himself depending on the needs of the team, for the most part of his career. After donning the big gloves to accommodate an extra batsman in the ODI team in the early 2000s, he was often made the makeshift opener in the longer format, in the case of an injury to a regular opener; to be honest, he almost played as an opener in overseas Tests, owing to the early loss of one of Sehwag and his partner in non-Indian conditions.

And then many years later, when critics spoke about his career coming to an end, he took the entire cricket fraternity by shock with superlative performances in the 2011 England Test series, amassing 461 runs in a tour where his colleagues were completely outplayed in all departments of the game. And then there was one bad series for which he took the blame and hung his boots, shielding his fellow team-mates from further criticism. It was IPL 2012 after that, where all the retirement distractions never allowed him to be his own man and a year passed without any sort of professional cricket. Then came IPL-6, where the typical Dravid has been back with what he is best known for – consistency and commitment.

Dravid has shifted gears for the newest format of the game, surprisingly, with a gentle display of aggression along with the elegance reminiscent of the vintage Jammy. He looks to have honed his T20 skills after quitting the international arena, as there were the inside-out hits over cover and those sublime chips over the infield that left his followers in awe. Of all those, I must say, the fans must have delighted on seeing his street-smart straight drives and those textbook cover drives, especially the ones against Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Ajit Agarkar, which seemed too much for the opposition bowlers. The main reason Rahul has looked a better player than other Indians of his age is mainly because he has known his limitations and has played clever cricket based on what the situation demanded.

More than Dravid the batsman, it has been Dravid the captain-cum-mentor who has been more in the spotlight in the recent past. His tactics have been shrewd, and yes, sometimes weird, but on most occasions he has managed to pull a rabbit out of the hat, coming up with bold moves to upset the opposition. He has juggled his own position in the RR batting order, giving his batsmen opportunities, and more importantly, freedom, to boost their own confidence and form.

Rajasthan Royals bowler Sidharth Trivedi

When someone like Shane Watson comes up and says that he feels blessed to play under such a captain, his greatness is reaffirmed. Little-known overseas players like James Faulkner and Kevon Cooper have been Dravid's go-to bowlers, operating as death -over specialists, a fact that has already triggered calls for them from their respective national selectors. Ajinkya Rahane is always a different person playing under Dravid, and the presence of his 'idol' at the other end has worked wonders for him.

Dravid has already unearthed a few raw Indian talents in Sanju Samson, Rahul Shukla, Dishant Yagnik, Stuart Binny and Ajit Chandila, who have affirmed the faith shown in them by their skipper. Sreesanth's temper hasn't seemed to have gone down too well with Dravid, as seasoned campaigner Siddharth Trivedi has silently become the lead Indian pacer for the side.

It has been the former India captain's thirst for runs and wins that has actually set moods ablaze in the RR camp. Dravid has been highly active on the field and people have also witnessed Dravid v2.0, the one who loses his cool at times (yes, trust me, he does!), like on two occasions that I remember very well. When Sreesanth went awry with his line and length in the away encounter against PWI, Dravid was seen frowning at the bowler, with the Indian pacer subsequently getting dropped for the next game. And against CSK, at Chepauk, he misfielded at cover, resulting in an extra run in the dying overs, and Dravid was so furious with himself that he tapped the ball with his hand to the 'point' region off the next ball, that resulted in another extra run. He also expresses disgust after failing to punish the loose balls while batting in the initial overs, but it has been that 'mild aggression' that has launched him into the 'T20' mode this year.

As Dravid would say at the toss every match, RR have started most of the matches as the underdogs, but they have put forth collective efforts, led by an inspirational leader, to emerge as one of the strongest teams of the competition. Maybe Dravid missed this aggression while he captained India. But here, he leads a pack that would obey him under all circumstances and there, it was definitely a different scenario.

Dravid might not have years of cricket left in him, but he has the firepower in his belly to stand up and perform his given task. Should he continue in the same way in the remaining matches, RR might well become the most celebrated and respected team by the end of the tournament. It's not a case of comparison or prediction, but I am pretty sure that Dravid has been the best of all captains in this IPL and I won't be surprised if the young Indian brigade pulls off sensational performances to win the most coveted IPL trophy, at least as a tribute to this 40-year-old youngster.

Shane Watson in awe of Rahul Dravid

Shane Watson seemed to be in awe of Rahul Dravid's batting and said the former India captain is batting like he used to bat in his early 20s.

Shane Watson on Tuesday spoke reverently of the influence and guidance of Rahul Dravid, stating that the former India skipper was a constant source of inspiration for him and Rajasthan Royals.

"Rahul as a person is one of the most amazing people whom I have met in my life. He has got utmost respect from all the players, from all the support staff. He is doing an amazing job as a captain. Paddy Upton our coach this year, him and Rahul have worked extremely well this year," Watson said after his side jumped to second spot in the points table with a nine-wicket win over Delhi Daredevils.

"The ultimate challenge for a team is to have a successful culture and that's something we have achieved at the moment. It starts at the top with great like Rahul Dravid. He is doing an amazing job and Paddy Upton certainly complementing him," he said.

Watson seemed to be in awe of Dravid's batting and said the former India captain is batting like he used to bat in his early 20s.

"Rahul is batting extra-ordinarily, he certainly has a long way to go in his career the way he is batting at the moment. I think just about the world cricket would never thought that Dravid could take down bowlers like he has, it's been amazing to watch him. For me, Dravid bats like he is batting in his early20s. He has got few more years in him."

Watson said the team is playing some great cricket this season.

"We are very close to play-off; there is no doubt about that. We have been playing very good cricket at the moment. But we still need to finish it off strongly. To get to the finals, certainly we have got the quality players," he said.

Rajasthan now play their remaining matches away from home except one against Chennai Super Kings on Sunday and Watson said they are confident of changing their poor away record.

"It does not make much of a difference. If it's a good cricket wicket, then I think good cricket can be played anywhere. In Jaipur, the T20 wickets are very good, there is pace and bounce in the wicket. Ball turns a little bit but not a hell of a lot.

"It's true to other parts of the country as well. In the end, it's just we need to adapt quickly to the conditions; we certainly got the quality players to put in a performance that we know we are known for," he said.

Watson, however, conceded that bowling remains a concern.

"Bowling is something we are certainly going to keep working on. I believe our bowling, at times, has been a little inconsistent. But we have pretty young bowling squad. Twenty20 is built around scoring runs. It does provide a big challenge to the bowlers, we have got the talent, and we have got the skills within our bowling unit. I know in the next couple of games, we will have complete performance with both bat and ball," he signed off.

ajasthan Royals clinch 2nd spot after win over KXIP in IPL

Rajasthan Royals achieved the 146-run target at the loss of two wickets with six balls to spare against Kings XI Punjab. This was a superbly paced chase by Rajasthan. They lost their skipper, Dravid early but Rahane and Watson steadied the ship with a wonderful stand for the second wicket. Chawla cleaned up Watson, but the crowd was then treated to a fine exhibition of batting from Rahane and young Samson as they took their team to a 9th win for the season. They have one foot in the playoffs and going by the way they have played this season, certainly deserve to be in the position they are at the moment.

Rahul Dravid, Ajinkya Rahane guide Rajasthan Royals to crushing win over Delhi Daredevils

Rahul Dravid cracked seven boundaries to score 53

Rahul Dravid and Ajinkya Rahane slammed half-centuries to power Rajasthan Royals to a crushing nine-wicket win over the Delhi Daredevils in the 52nd match of IPL 2013 tournament on Tuesday. With this win, Rajasthan moved to the second spot in IPL points table.

Chasing a target of 155, Rajasthan cruised to a comprehensive win with more than two overs to spare.

Dravid (53) and Rahane (63 not out) added 108 runs for the first wicket, while Shane Watson got a quick 14-ball 28 not out towards the end to power Royals to a big win.

In their chase of 155, Rajasthan openers Dravid and Rahane started off on a cautious note initially and then opened up to score runs on both sides of the wicket. Dravid flicked Siddharth Kaul in the air towards the deep midwicket area in the third over for a boundary, and got the same result when he got a leading edge flying over the fielders on the on-side.

Dravid got into the groove with a classic stroke off Morne Morkel once again towards the deep midwicket region on the last ball of the fifth over, and slapped a slow delivery by Ajit Agarkar straight over umpire Aleem Dar's head after deflecting from bowler's hand, in the next as Rajasthan raced to 49/0 after six overs.

Agarkar's first over got 13 runs for the home side.

Rahane, on the other hand, got a lifeline in the fifth over off Morkel when Pawan Negi dropped a difficult chance, and was lucky on one more instance off Morkel when he got an inside edge missing the stumps and racing away to the boundary, on the first ball of the eighth over.

Dravid and Rahane gave no opportunity to the Delhi bowlers, and easily nudged the ball along the park to keep adding runs for the Royals and picked boundaries every now and then.

Delhi captain Mahela Jayawardene introduced Ben Rohrer in the 12th over with hope to cut down the scoring rate, but Dravid lifted him over the cover region for a boundary and Rahane flicked the last ball for a boundary towards fine-leg area to collect 12 from the over.

The Royals crossed the 100-run mark in the 13th over of the game off Morkel, with skipper Dravid also completing his well-made half-century. The lanky South African didn't trouble the Rajasthan openers much, with the odd ball rising high and beating the edge. Dravid, on one such instance, was beaten by the pace and bounce as the ball hit the shoulder of the bat and landed safely, with Dravid taking a single to reach his fifty.

It was in the 14th over when the Daredevils made the first breakthrough, with Dravid falling to Kaul after a fluent 53 off 48 balls, caught by Agarkar at long-on. The Rajasthan captain cracked seven boundaries during his stay at the crease.

Rahane completed his half-century with a single off Umesh Yadav in the 15th over, and Shane Watson, who walked in after Dravid's fall, clobbered 12 runs from the remaining five balls to mark a confident start.

Watson, who is in a rich form, clobbered three boundaries and a six to race to 28 not out from 14 balls.

Rahane remained unbeaten on 63 from 45 balls, studded with five boundaries and a six.
