When Television era came, very little thought was given about its role in our daily lives. However, over the years, the misconception faded and soon the masses embraced it by virtue of the different people, who shared their lives on screen with them, on a regular basis.
Yes, I'm talking about regular Indian tele soaps, which have wooed millions of the masses and made them feel so special. The lives of the on-screen characters and their ups and downs have made people believe in them and strongly feel for their issues. Let's see which Indian TV soaps have managed to grab the audience' attention, becoming an integral part in their lives.
Desi spiderman cum superman cum all other mans could be easily amalgamated into the fictional iconic character called, 'Shaktimaan'. The first television superhero with unbeatable strength and vigor, Shaktimaan became a huge hit with the children. Although the show garnered some negative response, stating it be too persuasive for children, instigating them to try his stunts and jumping off from building, but still the children accepted 'Mukesh Khanna' as their Shaktimaan in no time!
Everybody loved the trend of family dramas, which had continued since the 'hum Log' days. With Shanti, there was a new family drama, with added dollops of mystery and thrill shrouding each episode. The murkier past of the characters, coupled with debutante 'Mandira Bedi's strikingly charismatic character, made the show garner a great response.
Kyunki Saas bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi
One of the flagship hit soaps under the Ekta Kapoor banner was the very much loved,Smriti Irani aka 'Tulsi' starred KSBKBT. The show created a craze with its on screen portrayal of larger than life casting of the lives of the protagonists and their problems. It marked the onset of 'saas-bahu' melodramas in the genre.

Amitabh Bachchan raised the bar of knowledge and entertainment when he stepped into the shoes of anchoring. The show's plot, presentation, couple with Amitabh's candid talks, made the show hugely popular. People looked forward to tuning in to this show, to catch a glimpse of the iconic figure and their daily dose of wisdom!
Ramanand Sagar made people fall in love with their religion and epic 'Ramayan'. Every Sunday, the audience stayed glued in front of their television sets to catch a glimpse ofArun Govil as their 'Shree Ram'. The show garnered a huge response and helped connect the people to their religious roots.
If Ramayan had garnered a craze, then Mahabharat had created nothing less than a furor. The detailed, elaborate story of the epic, broadcasted on DD, helped the people learn about the social values, moral values, etc. In short, it gave a glimpse of the prevailing value system that hailed in our country during the epic days of Rishis, Munis and kings!
Hum Log was a cult serial, which created a stir by becoming the first soap opera on Indian television. It was the first commercially sponsored serial and its success led to many other advertisers and sponsors, to start sponsoring soaps. The show created a lot of love and warmth with the masses, who loved the Indian middle class family, their struggles and aspirations.
