Exactly 29 years ago, In 1984  Doordarshan, then the only television channel In India, began airing the soap opera Hum Log. Woven into its lengthy narrative were various threads of women's empowerment. The show attacked the dowry system, encouraged women to get educated, decide for themselves how many children they would have, and promoted gender equality in the workplace.Basesar Ram and his family entered Indian drawing rooms and became part of every home with a television set.Badki, Chhutki, Dadi, Nanhe and every other character of Doordarshan's first soap, 'Hum Log', continue to be remembered fondly.

The Show Cross The Barrier Of Society & Came Up With New message, The sanctioning of the notion of women as autonomous and equal citizens, while also endorsing the idea that women are around to be gazed at, is the contradiction that has lessened our potential since the days of Hum Log, and the many other shows that followed. Even a strong and well-made serial likeSaas, Udaan,  In The Year 1990-91 which tells the story of a woman aspiring to be an Indian Police Service officer, could not make a long-term impact on viewers. Nothing has changed for the better. In some ways, television has fostered the spread of the liberation movement through its vast amount of coverage of women through seemingly 'progressive' talk shows, discussions, debate and detailed news reports. At the same time, television has done more harm than good to women's potential as individuals by putting female conformity to convention and tradition at the forefront.

In Year 2000  Then With the arrival of Ekta Kapoor, the story lines changed dramatically. Her serials hit the bull's eye. She revolutionized television with Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu ThiKahaani Ghar Ghar Kii, and Kasautii Zindagi Kay, shows spinning around one female protagonist, and which continue with their never-ending stories. As viewers flocked to her serials, others started toeing the line to keep abreast. This flood of essentially similar shows turned off a lot of viewers, and a large segment of urban Indian women now find these serials regressive.

In Mean Time In The Year 2006 Ekta Kapoor's Another Hit "Kasamh Se" Hit the Television Screen,It Breaks The Barrier of Ages & Marriage.

7 Long Years Was Ruled By Saas-Bahu Saga, Then Come Year 2007-08 ,The Year That Brings Changes In Indian Television By The Shows Like "Sapna Babul Ka…Bidaai"  & "Balika Vadhu" The story deals with child marriage, a social custom that is still practiced in some parts of India despite being banned by law.The Makers Starts Focusing Social Issues, One Side Maker Were Focusing On Social Issues Other Side Show Like "Dill Mill Gayye" Brings Romance Back At Indian Television , With Dill Mill GayyeNew Era Of Romance Hit The Screen For The First Time.

In The Same Year In 2008 "Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah" Brings Laughter Back At Indian Drawing Room, It Was Also Th Biggest Hit Of The Era.

Then Year 2009 Brings "Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai"  The story shows the journey of Akshara-Naitik as husband-wife after arranged marriage & their love after marriage.

Till 2010 The Indian Television Has Reached The New Height Of Success Not only In India But In 128 Countries. 8:00 PM- 12:00 PM Begins To Call As The Prime Time Slot. But In 2010 With The Arrival Of " Saath Nibhana Saathiya" At 7:00 PM Slot Re-define The Prime Time Slot Meaning & Brings Back Saas-Bahu Saga.

Than Comes The Year 2011 With "Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon?" & "Ek Hazaaron Mein Meri Behna Hai"  Which Once Again Bring Love Back At Television Set, This Show Re-define The Meaning Of Love Once Again & Set New Examples Of Sacrifices   . In The Same Year "Bade Achhe Lagte Hain"  Breaks The Barrier Of Ages Once Again After "Kasamh Se" ." Diya Aur Baati Hum" In The Same Year premiered which was the story of the ambitious girl who aspires to make her mark in the world by becoming an IPS Officer but due to certain circumstance has to marry with  sweet maker.

In 2012 Shows Like "Pyaar Ka Dard Hai" , "Veera"  Were A Big Achievement  Of Indian Television.

Currently In 2013, "Saraswatichandra" Is A Big hit For Indian Small Screen.

Special Mention : Shows like "Mahabharat" , "Ramayan" , "C.I.D" , " Shaktimaan" , " Satyamev Jayate" & "Crime Patrol"  Were The Landmark Achievement Of Indian
