Rabba ve...

Thank you dear Aquiline for giving us an update amidst your busy study schedules and Thank you dear Aura for posting this update on behalf of Aquiline. Love you both for your thoughtfulness. All the best for your exams... My best wishes and prayers for you both... Hug

Aquiline, I agree on your view on the term "Star-crossed lovers". I got your point. They are not "Star-crossed" or to be precise, we, fans didn't let it happen. If we had not protested about the gruesome shot they had planned to show at the final episode...Ouch the story of Arnav and Khushi might have concluded with a tragic end and thus they might have come under the category of "star-crossed lovers". But, all thanks to the crazy, passionate ArHi fandom... now, atleast we can stay content with the thought that these two epic lovers are living a "happily ever after" life, in our memories... Hamesha... Wink

Coming to the update, loved the light-hearted banter between the Prakash brother... LOL And, General. Jha is once again playing cool and smooth... safe and wise... to come into the good books of Khushi... It seems that khushi willingly needs to submit herself to him (without being forced) or willingly need to give consent to do whatsoever he thinks, that will break his curse permanently. I find no other reason for why he is behaving so patient with her, where he could have easily forced khushi to fulfill his intention.

Khushi being smart and clever, I guess, she'll discover his true identity very very very soon... (Will his truth be revealed in front of khushi, the next day, in the art gallery?Wink)

"So she left the Gallery, happily closing the door behind her, and the painting silently stared at the closed door, through which one day, the very same girl would run out in fear of what the painting would convey to her."

Full moon festival?!!! Wedding ceremony?!!! Waiting eagerly...Tongue

Chapter One Hundred Sixty One: The Forbidden at the Festival

"So?" asked Lord Akash expectantly, leaning forwards, his palms pressing on his brother's library table, as he stood watching his brother's expression where the latter sat in his armchair, casually flicking through the pages of a massive book.

"So what?" mused Lord Arnav, his focus immersed in the book, running his hand over a page as he scanned the words on it.

"Will you help me spend some time with her tonight?"

Lord Arnav looked up, "She is your bride; you have every right to spend time with her."

Lord Akash groaned, "I told you brother, there is a problem. Tomorrow is our wedding and the bride and groom are ritualistically not supposed to meet each other after the loutra until the wedding night."

"Then what is the hurry?" said Lord Arnav, "After the wedding tomorrow night, you can see her whenever you want without the taxing of any rules and regulations or adamant mothers."

"Well, I don't suppose you would understand, brother," Lord Akash sighed, "It is hard for a man who is in love to keep away from the girl his heart yearns to always be around. I have not seen her an entire day after yesterday's feast."

"This is ridiculous," said Lord Arnav, slamming his massive book shut and shaking his head, "You are only abstaining from seeing her forone day!"

"I know you will not understand how hard it is for a man mad in love," Lord Akash admitted, "But I need your help for this is my only chance to see her before tomorrow night which feels such a long way off. I don't want to let this opportunity slip by."

Lord Arnav tilled his head as he eyed his brother, and spoke in mockery, "Aren't you afraid you'll break your precious ritual rules when you meet her eventually earning doom to befall upon your progeny or something of the sort?"

"This rule of not meeting each other is the only one I am willing to break," said Lord Akash.

Lord Arnav narrowed his eyes, "You know very well that the Full Moon Festival is for the villagers and we Lords do not present ourselves there. I'm sure if you try you can stay without seeing her one more day. You will be spending your entire life with her!"

Lord Akash ran his hand through his hair, and looked at the ceiling, "And I thought talking this over with someone who does not mindbreaking rules of a ritual would help me win a night to be with her."

Lord Arnav chuckled lightly and stood up, "Alright, tell me what I have to do. But, mind you Akash, this is the last time I'm helping you do something sneaky."

"You used to say that every time when we were kids at pranks," said Lord Akash, grinning widely and then he let his brother in on his plan.

The mayor was offering some errands to the young village boys who were assisting in the Festival procedures when he noticed the First Lord and Second Lord walk into the tent, majestic in their attire and air.

"My lords!" the mayor exclaimed, forgetting those he was talking to, and he stepped towards the Raizada Lords, "My lords, this is an honour and a surprise! We did not expect your esteemed presence here for our Full Moon Festival."

Lord Akash only smiled and stood beside his brother, his eyes searching the entire place while his brother did the talking.

"We were just passing by and thought to pay a visit to this village Festival we have heard much of," said Lord Arnav, shaking hands with the excited mayor, who bowed to them and requested them to take a stroll through the Temple grounds to see all the festivities and preparations.

"No, I'd rather not," said Lord Arnav stoically and then he nodded to his brother, "But my brother here will do the honour in the Raizada name."

"This is most humbling, sires," bowed the mayor again and he asked a villager at hand to escort the Second Lord to see the Temple ground, but Lord Akash said he was better off exploring alone and patted his brother's back gratefully.

When Lord Akash had left, Lord Arnav turned to the mayor, "Are all the villagers here?"

"No, just those in the South Village, sire," said the mayor, "Have the preparations for the Second Lord's wedding been done? We would love to offer any assistance if required."

"I told you, mayor," Lord Arnav said pointedly, "if you wish to offer help, you are required to ask Master Gupta himself, the father of the bride. If he needs anything, make sure that it is offered without delay."

"Yes sire," said the mayor, "We paid a visit to his place last day and offered our assistance. I believe the marriage is to be conducted at the South Temple."

"Yes, the bride stays in the South Village presently. Hence."

Just then, loud music began to be played and sounds of laughter and dancing could be heard.

"Ahh, it has begun, my lord," said the mayor cheerily, "Will you join us?"

"No, I need to be on my way," said the First Lord, "I will wait for my brother to return but you can go and see to the Festival, mayor."

The mayor thanked him, bowed and then left.

Lord Arnav sighed, standing aimlessly for moment, before he strode out, his eyes searching for Lord Akash.

He had barely reached the center of the festival ground where all the action was held when he knocked into someone, his arms reaching out to catch the other person from falling having hit his hard chest.

"Watch where you're-!" he began hotly, when he stare in astonishment at the face looking up at him.

Kushi gasped, and stepped away from his hold, and he asked, "What are you doing here?"

Kushi opened her mouth to answer and then shut it and rephrased her dialogue, "I believe it is who should ask you that query, sire. What are you doing here? This is a villager's festival."

"I'm not interested in the Festival, I only came to get-"

Loud music blared and Kushi was distracted. She yelled with delight and raced towards the crowd, forgetting all about the man who stood fuming for having been flatly ignored mid-sentence.

"The nerve of that girl!" he said through gritted teeth and then made for the crowd to find her. But no sooner had he reached the mob than everyone around him started dancing in singles and couples and groups.

He was the only one apart from the lot, standing stiffly, staring disgustedly at the environment but no one regarded his presence or noticed who he was as they forgot themselves in the music and dancing.

His annoyed gaze swung about until they rested on the girl dancing with a group of village girls.

His expression turned to one of amusement as he watched her dance, her hair flying about and her cheeks flushed from the dancing.

He moved through the crowd, his eyes fastened unblinkingly on her, watching her and those near to her. Everyone seemed to dance away from him as he smoothly moved through the mob, his gaze never drawn away from the object of his vision, who was clearly enjoying the music.

Her legs skipped and her hands waved about, her gown circling about her and all the girls were laughing as they danced but he heard only her merry laughter. Like the ring of his mother's bangles'..

He grimaced at the thought and then looked away, disturbed that he was reminded of his mother. When the loud music finally seeped into his distracted mind again to let his mind forget the memory, he looked up again.

Kushi and the girls now had a set of young village boys for company. Though they were in a group, some girls got more attention.

Lord Arnav found his fists clenching as he watched a boy in particular holding Kushi's hand while dancing. Then the boy was twirling her and she was laughing happily as she held another girl's hand who was holding another boy's hand and so on.

Kushi was so enraptured by the music she kept laughing and dancing away until she felt cold fingers circle around her wrist.

She stopped dancing, the smile frozen on her face as she looked up into cold eyes.

Her questioning look was ignored as he resolutely dragged her through the crowd, away from the frenzy of the dancers.

"Stop! Let go of me!" she struggled against his hold, trying to dig her feet into the ground to stop him from succeeding but he easily dragged her along. Finally, she was exhausted with the struggle and let him tag her along behind him, his cold hand never leaving hold off her wrist.

"Where are you taking me?" she demanded, her eyes on the back of his neatly combed dark hair.

He gave no answer but kept leading her on until they had reached the side of the nearest tent and he made her stand against a tree.

He stood before her, his arms crossed across his chest, "What do you think you are doing?" he asked coldly, his eyes hard on her face.

"Dancing," she answered simply, "This is the festival dance. If you haven't noticed even the mayor is in the crowd dancing."

"I don't care who is dancing or why," he barked, leaning forwards and pressing his palms on the tree on her either side.

Kushi tried to bravely ignore his unnerving proximity with her, "Then why did you bring me away?"

"Because-" he began but couldn't quite complete it. Yes, why had he bought her away? Why had he been irked by the idea of her dancing with other men? There were other girls there too. They were all dancing with the boys.

While he was submerged in these thoughts, Kushi's gaze reached out to the festival crowd and suddenly she caught sight of Lord Akash in the crowd.

Gasping, her eyes instantly searched for her sister in the territory and if there were any signs that her parents had become aware of the presence of Lord Akash at the Festival.

"What is he-?" Kushi panicked and then she glared up at the man before her, "You! Ritual-breaker! You must be the one who meddled with good Lord Akash's head and brought him here!"

"Hold it right there, girl!" he yelled, stepping back in retort, "You can't nail every foolhardy thing onto my name!"

"Well, I see no other way in which Lord Akash would have dared to break the norm!" Kushi looked around worriedly, "Oh dear goddess!! Jiji will be happy but if mother sees him here'.!!" and then eyed Lord Arnav, "You brought him here!"

"He wanted to come," said Lord Arnav and looked over his shoulder to where Lord Akash was, and said through gritted teeth, "He was practically begging on his knees and as a brother, I just let him have his little wish," he turned to frown at Kush, "And you don't act smart and question me, beggar! You have no right to!"

"I do!" Kushi claimed proudly.

"Oh really?" Lord Arnav cocked an eyebrow.

Kush nodded deftly, "You are family now."

"Not yet," he said icily.

"You will be," she said with a clever smile, "And then I can call you all the names I've been dying to call you."

"But I will always be a Lord and you a beggar," said Lord Arnav, smirking, "You can never be above me EVER, Kushi Kumari Gupta."

"I'll prove it to you," said Kush, scowling at his face and clenching her fists at her sides, "I will make you eat dirt!"

Lord Arnav chuckled evilly, "Would you? Then I will make you eat it with me!"

"You brutal monster!"

"You adorable beggar!"

Kush had opened her mouth to retort but suddenly words failed her and she blushed deep red.

Lord Arnav smirked. He had caught her little 'pricky' pride this time.

"You're''" Kush struggled to find words, and then she gritted her teeth, "I hate you. I always will."

"And I will keep you that way," said Lord Arnav, "I will like nothing but hatred from you."

"Oh really?" she smiled, "Are you suggesting that I should change my tactics then?"

"Do you think I am?" said Lord Arnav casually, crossing his arms before his chest.

Kush blinked, "No, I meant are you'.." She paused and then frowned, "You're snide, you are! Talking in circles and trying to trap me by my own words!"

"Trap you?" Lord Arnav gave a deliciously innocent look and Kush felt her heart skip, "Why would I try to trap a girl who voluntarily makestraps and falls into them herself?"

"I don't," said Kushi in defense, and then to not look at his face, her gaze slid back to the crowd. Lord Akash was nowhere to be found.

"Oh dear goddess mother!" Kush exclaimed, "I hope Amma has not come to know he is here!"

She looked at Lord Arnav, "And you! I am going to make sure nothing horrid has happened and in the meantime, you better find your brother and take him home."

And with that she rushed in the direction of the festival and Lord Arnav stood beside the tree, smiling at the sight of her running away. He knew she wasn't running to save her sister. She was running to escape him.
