Hello Friends
Happy Sunday to all of you!  And for those in India, Good Morning! Smile
Spring is in the air in my part of the world and this has put me in an upbeat mood. Thumbs Up  In fact after 6 long months this weekend is the first time I have gone out without warm jackets or caps etc. I decided to welcome spring by cooking something special and I was in a mood to experiment...Wink

So my mind went back to the post Deepali made last week where she had posted Tarla Dalal's recipe for HCKK with MM.  I must admit ever since I read the recipe I wanted to try the kadhi'  simply because the dish seemed to be choc-ful of protein.  And that's what I cooked! Embarrassed

The MM is for another day, another experiment. You can find the recipe in this post: http://www.india-forums.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=3518949

And here is the result...

Now I did improvise from the original recipe...
1. I used frozen green channa and used half chana and half sprouted moong.
2. After cooking the channa and moong, I pulsed it a bit in food processor.
3. I reduced the number of garlic cloves and ginger.
4. I did not use any green chilis, used only a little bit of red chili powder.
The last two (numbers 3 and 4) I specifically did for my son.

As mentioned earlier I did not make MM but I decided to make puris instead. Tongue Sunday lunch turned out to be HCKK with Puris...

Verdict:
This dish is surprisingly very tasty. Hmm, yummy!! Thumbs Up
My 4 1/2 year old son probably ate one of his fastest lunches and even took a second serving.  LOL
And my husband thinks there is some use to being a member of the forum after all! !  Silly

Warning: If you are a good cook and its your first time making this dish allocate an extra hour.

P.S:

Deepa (jayanti_dj), I know that you had also posted a recipe long back but that was way too long ago to remember when. So I did not search for it. Hope you do not mind.

For those of you that are lazy like me and never go back to an old post, I am copying over Tarla Dalal's recipe from Deepali's post.  Big smile  Thanks a lot Deepali for looking up this recipe.

Ingredients

1 1/2 cups sprouted moong (whole green gram) or 1 1/2 cups fresh hara chana (green chick peas)
coconut
onion, chopped
1 tsp cornflour
oil
salt to taste

To be ground into a paste
3/4 cup chopped coriander (dhania)
green chillies
12 mm. (1/2") piece ginger (adrak)
6 cloves of garlic (lehsun)
2 tsp lemon juice
4 to 5 spinach (palak) leaves

For the methi muthias
1 1/2 cups chopped methi bhaji
1/3 cup whole wheat flour (gehun ka atta)
a pinch asafoetida (hing)
1 tsp sugar
1 tsp chilli powder or 1 tsp ginger-green chilli paste
2 tbsp hot oil
oil for deep-frying

For the garnish
chopped coriander (dhania)

Method

1.    Boil the chana ( or the moong sprouts). For boiling the chana, add a pinch of soda bi-carb.

2.    Scrape out the coconut meat, add 2 cups of water and blend in a blender. Strain the coconut milk.

3.    Heat the oil and fry the onion for 1 minute. Add the paste and fry for 3 to 4 minutes.

4.    Add the chana or the sprouts.

5.    Mix the cornflour in the coconut milk, add salt and add to the chana mixture.

6.    Mix all the ingredients for the methi muthias including the hot oil. Shape into small balls and deep fry in oil on a slow flame.

7.    Add these balls to the curry.

8.    Serve hot decorated with fresh coriander
