"Collector! Toh aap hai Shivraj Shekhar! Maine aapke baare mein bahut kuch suna hai!" And indeed she had.
6 months ago, Jaitsar had been declared a district and Shivraj Shekhar had come here. Though she had been the last Sarpanch before the transitory municipal council had been formed, she had not attended his welcome event due to her exams. Through Gulli, Bapusa, Jagya and Ganga, she had heard many good things about him. In such a short while, he had brought in a computer lab for her school and laid the foundation for a canal project and railway line. He had won the hearts of all the villagers through his humility and diligence.
"Mera naam Anandi Singh hai. Main Jaitsar ki-" She shook his hand.
"Sarpanch! Aap Anandi Ji hai! Wow I'm so happy to meet you!"
Everyone in Jaitsar knew Anandi's story. Married at the age of 8, her husband had left her for another woman a few years ago. But she had been strong and had completed her graduation and begun to work for her village. It was because of her and her family's efforts that Jaitsar had a secondary school for girls and a fully-equipped charitable hospital. Her ex-husband Jagdish, who managed the hospital, had told Shiv how she had forgiven him but refused to take him back when he saw the error of his ways. She was a self-respecting girl, after all. But she had been kind enough to help him get the acceptance of his family again. When he fell in love with a domestic abuse victim, Ganga, Anandi had helped them get married. Today, Jagdish lived a happy life with Ganga, her son Mannu and his family only because of her. After the village-to-district transition process had begun, Anandi had decided to complete her studies. Shiv had heard that Ms Singh was now completing her Masters of Social Work at Jaipur University. Apparently, she wanted to start a college in Jaitsar and become a full-time teacher.
