Why thank you.
More so because it is reminding me of the dimly lit lanes of old Calcutta, the myriads of essential and non-essential stuffs filling up the stores of New Market before the Jewish and Christian festivals, the dark walled mansions filled with ghosts of the past.. Thanks a lot for bringing back the images of my beloved city with our most discoursed lover duo..Embarrassed

You are very welcome. I am happy to help, even unknowingly.
Funny thing in all of this, I have never been to Kolkata. Such is the blessing of fiction, you get to tell others, what you may not experience yourself.
The way you told the city's history sounds glorious.

When I left, it was still Calcutta..but now when I go to Kolkata, it feels like..hmmm...somewhat similar to what Lemuela thinks of herself as Madhubala Ermm

I get that SO MUCH.
I wasn't born here, in the house I live in now. Not even close. And you dream and dream of the day you will go back to the glory days, or atleast the reminiscence of it tucked away in a historic city, that holds on to the past like sponge. Only to find out that you childhood hang out, the single screen cinema is no longer, there is a shopping mall in place. The park you played in, has been taken over by a hospital. There is nothing left to go back to. Your childhood is but a dream now. Still, the scent of the city stays. Even with the faux modernism spread like the plague, the stink of stray animals and spicy morning chai aroma is in the air, decades after the people who build the town are gone.
Bitter sweet, my friend. Bitter sweet.

Very true..no matter how much my Calcutta has changed to Kolkata, still I cannot deny my roots, because it is that city that has made me what I am today.. anyway...too much of digression... but will be eagerly waiting for more 'Bong'bala adventures Embarrassed

Chapter 3

 Trigger warning: hallucinations

A/N: I won't be updating for a while. I am moving back to the hills next week and that is never easy. So, let us wait for things to settle down IRL. Okay? Good.

Also, I think the italics make sense but, I am a tad unsure of myself. Especially, considering this is a bomb you didn't see coming as a reader. So, let me know if there are any issues with this chapter. I may be able to help you or tweak it.

Rated T for language.

The Storm was coming; Yvette could feel his arrival in the chill of her bones. He was both a blessing and a curse, an unbecoming of her being. The last time he'd taken possession of her, Yvette was seventeen. He felt so good lurking in her corner, just a quiet soul observing whatever she was doing. Then, a switch flipped and he was controlling her brain, making her do to bad things to good people. But, he was so nice to her-the girl who never got an A in her life was suddenly on top of her academics. She won the city marathon, for crying out loud! She was going places she'd never been before, all thanks to the Storm.

She called him that because there was no other way to describe him to people. No one saw him, except her. He was her guardian angel of sorts. Only, he was selfish. He made her steal papa's '79 merlot and drink it all in one swig. She even sold the family heirloom necklace to a goldsmith for cold, hard cash. He was using her and she wanted him to stop. But, Storm was adamant. That man had her heartstrings at his beck and call. She was a slave to...no. This could not happen now.

That was then. Times had changed now. She had changed. She wasn't the Yvette he loved. She was the Madhubala even she hated. Storm couldn't ruin Madhu too, could he? His fear was running in her blood. If Rishabh even got a hint of it on her face, all hell would break loose. The blabbering hadn't started yet. If that was any sign, she was still in charge of her speech. Maybe if she could hide it a while longer, the wreckage would come and pass during Rishabh's trip abroad. All she had to was avoid running into her husband and staying focused on anything but herself. Yes, that should do it.

Passover was still a fortnight away. She'd hardly discussed the cleaning with Rishabh, after learning he would be gone for the rest of the Nisan month. That would give her enough time to rid the house of his breadcrumbs twice over. The man ate a lot of bread and left even more traces within sight. As she came across another one of his stale pizza boxes, she cursed under her breath. Why did one woman have to pick up after two grown men? First Storm and then, RK.

"Want some?" Rishabh stuffed a folded piece of meat lovers slice in his mouth, signing his free hand toward the leftover cold pizza sitting on his lap.

"No", she replied.

Stealitall and punch him in the face whileuratit. You bitch that f**kerdeservesfilth like you. How dare you leave me?

Storm announced his presence with a scream in her left ear. It was only a matter of time before she tuned out. She thanked God, for her thoughts were inaudible, even if they were clouded by the wishes of this unwanted visitor.

"Wanna come with me? I am going to France for a film. It's only a week if you wish to join me", said Rishabh between sips of soda.

Tellhim no. You are mine. Mine alone. Go on, tell him.

"Go away", Madhu was seething in anger, trying her damndest not to scream at Storm.

"Excuse me?" Rishabh almost chocked on his food.

"I mean yes. We can go away but, I need to be back atleast two days before Passover. Can we do that?"

She waited for a voice of disagreement, but none came- not from her husband or the invisible man over her shoulder.

"Pack your things, we're going to Paris", said Rishabh.

Madhu could swear that her heart stopped, all the air was vacuumed out of her lungs, and she was standing two feet away from the him, thoughtless. She couldn't speak either, she was frozen in time.

"Aren't you going to go, do your thing?" Rishabh gave her time to respond. When the silence hung on too long, he added, "Whatever it is you were doing before, go do it please".

Then, like the floodgates had opened without notice, she started rambling at a pace hard to keep up with, "Apples and oranges. Can I have this pizza, of course I can. I am the queen of la la land. Wait, no. Douche. Hate it. You are so handsome. What? Eatery. Screw you. Die, why don't you? Oh my God! Look at your butt. What? Mhmmm this is good. I like you, I want to eat eee. Alright, see you later, alligator. Alligator, do you own one? Like a pet?"

Rishabh felt his heart race right along with her tongue. Something was very wrong. But, now was no time for these shenanigans. Joshua Durham would be arriving any minute. And, if that director got a breath of this mess at home, the Kundra production house could kiss their Hollywood debut dreams goodbye. When he saw the familiar figure of Mr. Durham appear behind the curtains, he did what he had to save the moment.

"I am going to kiss you right now. You don't have to kiss me back, but it'll explain your confusion to Josh. Sit still".

He leaned in, his lips trapping hers. Her eyes shot up, but not in reaction to his action. He was back and he was not happy.

Youwh**e you should die. How dare you? Bitehim bitehistonguebitch. DO it. I said do it, now. Or else, I will strangle youinyour sleep.

She was on the verge of tears. Madhu did not want to do any harm. How much it would hurt Rishabh if she did what she was told. But, worse things could happen if she didn't.

"Sorry, looks like now is not a good time. I will just come back another day". Josh Durham apologized to Bittuji, without acknowledging Rishabh or Madhu. The secretary escorted the director out, himself ashamed of walking in on his boss unannounced.

As soon as they were gone, Madhu reacted. She gnawed on Rishabh's lower lip with full force causing him to push her off his body.

"What the hell woman?"

"What the hell yourself". At this point, it was no longer Madhu's call. Something other worldly was talking through her.
