CC continue their winning ways against VV
CC continued their impressive show in the LPL by pulling off yet another stunning win over VV, this time in VV's own den @ Vaikuntha. This was the first match in which the new entrants to the LPL have surfaced - CC brought in Utpal & Twastha, while VV brought in Blackasura & Swarnasura. Daksha won the toss and chose to bat, this time opening w/ Rishi Durvasa.
Rishi Durvasa hit out aggressively again, and this time, Durvasa and Daksha both gave VV a good start. Durvasa took the attack to Taare & Nishumbha, taking the score to 40 in 4 overs. Nahusha quickly brought in Bhrigni and Sesha, and Sesha managed to run Durvasa out. In his very next over, Bhringni produced a gem of a delivery that had Narada trapped lbw.
Debutant Blackasura now joined Daksha, and they stabilized the innings, w/o letting the scoring rate sag. So in the 13th over, Nahusha introduced debutant Utpal, who quickly removed Daksha and ended the partnership. Daksha had put together a well made 44. Opposite Utpal bowled Brigni, Taare and Nishumbha. Bhrigni next removed Blackasura, who had made a well made 23 w/ Daksha.
Sanatana and Swarnasura now came to the crease, and tried to accelerate the scoring. However, in the 14th over, Taare returned to dismiss Sanatana, and from then on, VV, who had made a healthy 120, started going downhill. Utpal next took the wicket of Swarnasura, and it was all downhill from there.
Rishis Kapila & Gautama came to the crease, but both of them were run out by some excellent fielding by Utpal. Vishnurishi then came and hit a huge 6 off Nishumbha, but the very next delivery, Vishnurishi was caught at the boundary by Bhrigni. Utpal continued to bowl tight, and wickets continued to fall. Ultimately, VV, who were 120/4 after 14 overs, ended the innings for a mere 143.
CC was buoyed by this performance, and when they came out to bat, they fired on all cylinders. Twastha, making his debut for CC, batted calmly, and Narada and Durvasa, who opened the bowling, were unable to shake him. On the other end, Ashwin1, promoted to open as a pinch hitter, did a great job and at the end of 8 overs, had put 80 runs on the board together w/ Twastha, taking apart the spin bowling of Narada, Durvasa, Gautama & Kapila - each of whom was very expensive. Finally, Daksha introduced Swarnasura, who got rid of Twastha, while Blackasura got rid of Ashwin1. Utpal & Nahusha now came to the crease, but from then on, they just batted calmly, and nothing could shake them. By the end of over 16, Nahusha and Utpal saw the team home.
Ashwin1 got the man of the match for a well made 55. Utpal got the naya soch award for a debut dream performance.
