Senior Madhya Pradesh BJP leader Vijayvargiya said quoting Ramayana, "Ek hi shabd hai - Maryada. Maryada ka ulanghan hota hai, toh Sita-haran ho jata hai. Laxman-rekha har vyakti ki khichi gayi hai. Us Laxman-rekha ko koi bhi par karega, toh Rawan samne baitha hai, woh Sita-haran karke le jayega. (There is only one word: limit. When limit is crossed, Sita is apprehended. There is a Laxman rekha for all. Whoever crosses this limit will confront Rawan waiting, and Sita will be kidnapped)"

He further said that if a woman crosses her limits she will be punished, just like Sita was abducted by Ravana.

Explaining that everyone is worried and society has to think why such incidents are happening, Vijayvargiya said added not only political parties but also people who lead the society have to think over it seriously He said just making tough laws cannot control such incidents and "we need to think seriously upon it. I think these incidents are happening where the dignity is being breached."

and he himself is crossing all limits of absurdity and stupidity and real trouble for us is he is not the only one with this mindset. Others are just smart enough to not make fool of themselves in public unlike him.
Agree with him on one point though that sociological change is needed in addition to government and law protecting girls and all people. But then government and law needs to improve on all fronts not just on this one issue. It will take them another 50 years to improve sadly.
India is not on the top for rape and other crime . Crimes and rapes per capita are higher else where so we are not the worst.
India is a sexually repressive society. Boys are brought up in india thinking women as their conquests, even highly educated ones think this way unfortunately. Someone already mentioned women are seen as objects. Teasing women on streets just reflect what sort of mentality indian men have. Surprisingly this problem is specific to india. I get really embarrassed when girls from other countries ask em why indian men stare them so hard and why were they  teased(read molested) while travelling in india. what exactly should be answer to that?
(when i say india it includes pakistan, bangla desh and nepal--- entire region)

ok but i can see that for some guys... when they cant even get a lay till they're married.LOL

you're right about other countries having far higher incidents of rape per capita than India (true even if we multiply reported figures by 10 for India). It's all the more iironical considering they have so much easy sex going for them.  Smile

the other point was about guys ogling at women in the sub-continent. I am sure that's very creepy but it doesn't come anywhere close to getting raped (which as we agree happens with greater frequency in the west).. One's mental titillation, other is physical outrage.
