Item songs go viral on small screen

Rohit and Mohena shake a leg in Sapne Suhane Ladakpan Ke

Hot and happening item songs are the latest spice garnishing the serials that TV is dishing out by the dozen. This year itself, four popular serials have incorporated sizzling numbers into their story.

If Jasveer Kaur unleashed some seductive moves in Madhubala — Ek Ishq Ek Junoon, as Gajar ne kiya hai ishara from Tridev played in the background, Siddharth Arora, or Beera of Na Bole Tum Na Maine Kuch Kaha was seen dancing to Jhalla wallah from Ishaqzaade with an item girl, Vidhi.

Siddharth said, "Earlier, we were supposed to dance on Balma from Khiladi 786, but the song was changed last minute. I shot with a group of 15-20 people on a bullock cart." The latest item number to hit the screen is O balma from Khiladi 786, which was telecast in a recent episode of Hitler Didi. The song was picturized on Sandeep Baswana and Neha Talwar.

Producer Ila Bedi Dutta says, "Item numbers help in getting the attention of the audience and also get us new viewers, who stop on such songs while browsing channels."

Sapne Suhane Ladakpan Ke will also see an item song in its Holi sequence soon, when Mohena Singh will shake a leg with Hiten Tejwani and Rohit Roy on Fevicol se and Halkat jawani.
