Some say that Sita is goddess of agricultural fertility. I also read somewhere that after Rama abandons her, Ayodhya goes through severe famine and Rama had to do Ashwamedha yagna to overcome the ill effects. I do not know which Ramayan is being quoted for though. In valmiki Ramayan it is to get rid of the sin of Brahman hatya as Ravan was a brahmin.

Yes she is worshipped as the goddess of agricultural fertility in quite some places . And yes after killing Ravan , Ram went to the himalayas to purify himself of the sin of brahm hatya [ brahminicide] sinnce Ravan was a brahmin .
