Chapter-4
Prithvi could barely think straight. Trying hard to keeping concentration on the road, his thought drifted to her.
How?Miu is kidnapped, Why would someone do this?
No! he wouldn't let anything happen to her.
In anger, he banged his fist on the steering wheel.
After much efforts, they reached home.
Dadi rushed to the living room to welcome her grandsons, only to be greeted by two boys walking aimlessly as if all life had been squeezed out of them.
Dadi was quick to call everyone. Kiran was shocked to see her sons in such a condition. She knew something was not right. And she couldn't see meera.
Akash began, "Mum, Meera..."
Just when everyone had gathered in the living area, the phone rang. Rajeev being closest to it, picked it up.
A heavy, husky voice spoke,
"Mr. Rajeev, Meera is in our captivity. If you want her alive, do not inform police. If this news leaks from the four walls of your house, she will be dead. "
Rajeev gasped. Fear took over his face. He wanted to speak but no words came out.
"Call Prithvi," the voice said.
Lost for words and through watery eyes, Rajeev gestured to Prithvi. With a doubt, he walked over to the phone and picked up the receiver from Rajeev's shaky hands.
Before he could say anything, the voice spoke,
"Prithvi, if you want her back, then you will have to do a small job"
"If you are successful in executing the job, the girl is all yours" taking a pause, the other person continued, " but if not, then every person you love, including you, will be dead "
Prithvi's eyes grew wide. His heart started beating faster.
No! I wouldn't let her suffer. She'd experienced it in barahgaon, I won't let it happen again ,whatever I may have to do , he thought.
"I take it as a NO," the voice said.
The sudden heavy voice brought Prithvi back to reality. Noticing what he had heard, he quickly replied back.
" NO! I mean, YES, I'll do it. Whatever it is. I'll do it. But please mee..."
Prithvi was interrupted before he could finish his sentence.
"Tomorrow at noon, you will receive a parcel.Open it. It will have all the necessary information about the person"
Prithvi clearly understood where this conversation was leading to. Still he asked.
"Person?"
"You have to kill him," the voice said,"Kill him and the girl is all yours"
He found it had to digest that he had to kill someone to save his miu.
He couldn't help but ask,
"What is that person's name?
The kidnapper readily told him the name.
As Prithvi heard it, the line went dead.
The receiver slipped out of his hand and dangled over the table. His hand fell limply to his side. He sat down where he was standing. His eyes focusing into nothingness.
Seeing her son collapse, Kiran rushed to him.
"Prithvi?" she said amidst tears, "are you all right dear?"
Patting his back she shouted, "Sanjana, go bring some water"
In seconds, sanjana, bua and akash gathered around him.
Giving him the glass of water, Kiran said, "Here Prithvi, drink this." He gulped down the water.
Rajeev was sitting on the couch, dadi by his side, still recovering from the shock.
Akash tried to put up a brave face before Prithvi but failed miserably. He asked," What did they tell you? Miu is safe na?"
Prithvi slowly move to face Akash. With expressionless face and emotionless voice, he spoke," She will be saved, if I do what their job."
By this time, Rajeev and dadi were around him.
"What job?" asked Rajeev fearfully.
Prithvi rose.
"I have to kill"
Anger surged through him. His eyes full of fear and shock. He raised his fist and brought down hard on the glass table. Glass shattered.
He continued.
"I have to kill...her father"
