No,I don't think it's illegal. But it is unethical and not done usually.Just as sometimes the husband runs for one political party and the wife runs for another.

Besides it's highly impractical.Rivalries are borne out of competition. If the husband and wife are fighting over the same piece of bone it's unlikely they will be able to keep the fight out of bedroom. Moreover, you tend to exclude your highly intelligent partner from many things due to work integrity.Men normally love to talk about the work and their pressures and turn towards their better half for moral support as well as advise if the going gets tough in the work place. But if the partner is the rival who is also probably the main cause of work tension in the first place then the emotional proximity suffers enormously. Then you don't have anyone left to confide your problem in.In real life 90% of the problems are work related.

Resentment too brews if the wife fares well in such cases.

Then, both are subjected to suspicion by their collegues if their partner fares better.Marriage itself has tremendous pressures with all the adjustments each partner has to make with the other. If you add these unnecessary pressures along with, resentment and dissatisfaction is going to crop up sooner than later.

For guys like Purab who tend to mix buisness with personal life (as it has been evident on numerous occassion including the recent Meenakshi one) it's even more tough if his wife works towards to make a rival company successful at the expense of his own.

Well said Minnie! Its the same reason why many companies don't allow husband and wife to work for the same group!
