Q. When was the first time you became aware of style?
Pretty early... Maybe when I was around 13-14.
Q. Do you have a hard-and-fast style philosophy?
I don't know if it's a hard-and-fast rule but I live by the saying, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Basically, it means wearing things that have always been in style and will always be in style.
Q. How do you think your style has evolved over the years?
There's been a natural 'growing up' to the way I dress. My tastes have gotten simpler, I'd rather have one very good pair of shoes than several okay ones.
Q. What are your favourite brands?
Tom Ford for suits, Church's shoes. For casual wear, I don't care about the brand.
Q. Who are your style icons?
Steve McQueen, Robert Redford, Bruce Springsteen.
Q. Do you ever take tips from your designer friends?
Not really... Style is such a personal thing, it's about expressing your personality.
Q. Does your wife Avantika influence your style?
Avantika has a great sense of what I like. She tends to buy a lot of stuff for me.
Q. What is that one item in your wardrobe you love the most?
My custom-made suits. I'm always looking for an excuse to wear them!
Q. What is that one thing in your wardrobe that is cringe-worthy?
I am strict about getting rid of clothes I don't wear. If I haven't worn something for six months, chances are, I never will.
Q. Do you love wearing watches?
Strangely, I like collecting them more than wearing them.
Q. One look that can never go wrong…
Blue jeans, white shirt. People have been wearing them for the last 60 years and can safely continue to do so for the next 60 also. It will never go out of fashion.
Q. What is your style obsession?
Q. Name two B-town actors who have redefined the style quotient.
Salman Khan for being a badass and making everything look cool, Saif Ali Khan for being the only guy in the industry who really knows how to wear a suit.
Q. Which actresses do you think sizzle the most on the red carpet?
Sonam Kapoor is always three steps ahead of everyone else and Deepika Padukone invariably causes men to trip and fall while staring at her.
Q. What is the one fashion faux pas men should avoid at any cost?
Guys tend to wear their pants too long. Pants should just skim the top of your shoes, if they're ballooning around your feet, you're doing it wrong.
Q. Have you ever made a fashion faux pas?
I look back with great regret at my 'baggy pants' phase. Far too many people were forced to see my underwear.
Q. What are absolute style no-nos?
Ill-fitting clothes. You don't have to spend a lot of money but the least you can do is wear clothes that are your size.
Q. Do you have a favourite element, which you add to make your look stylish?
A pocket square. It adds a finishing touch to the entire outfit.
Q. Do you feel sexy in a tux or in jeans?
The moment a man puts on a tux, he feels like James Bond. There's no substitute for that.
