Mithun. What was his status? How many hits he had? Where did he stand in comparison to Sunny, Anil, Sanjay, Govinda, Jackie?

What more significant work except Disco dancer?

I want to know about it!

And hey! Wasn't Rishi Kapoor beginning to do better in solo hero films in 80s? What was his status?

People from that era, please enlighten!

Was Sunny Deol a close second to him?

I am curious to know Sunny's status. He gave lot of hits through 90s and ATBB Gadar. And Anil, doesn't seem to have any ATBB (does he have one?).

Govinda seems more like an also-ran in 80s but had lot of hits in 90s. He didn't get reduced to a character actor like Anil towards late 90s.

Acting-wise, I think Anil and Govinda were best.

Overall career I think Anil has an edge because of longevity, international projects and ability to keep reinventing himself with changing times.

Jackie, Sanjay Dutt seem waste. I don't know if Jackie had potential to accomplish more. But Sanjay Dutt seemed to have it all going for him till his other issues wrecked his career.

From what i remember, Sunny was a very BIG star in 80s..esp after his arjun...he became a HUGE rage!!The dhai kilo ka haath came with damini and that was in 90s. The line got stuck with him n hnestly sunny delievred as awesome performance in damini! last successful was gadar n then apne in 2000s

Govinda was NOT an also - ran..even though he became much more famous in 90s with david dhawan movies...but his dancing talent in 80s became a huge huge rage among youngsters..n girls had crushes on him! sounds funny now..but he was good looking back then n no one danced like him!! U shud check out the songs of ilzaaam - >street dancer...n u will know y he is a rockstar when it comes to dance!!

Mithun was an equally big dancing star and govinda came up as a threat to Mithun in dance terms. Mithun used to specialise in revenge movies...his mom or sis wud b killed by villain n he wud grow up to take revenge...he has loads of them!

Jackie also had quite a fan following n i remember this movie of his - teri mehebaniyan - which became a very big hit! Even the dog from that movie became a huge star!!πŸ˜†πŸ˜†

80s did not have a very clear winner...it was a time when oldies like amitabh etv were fading out...n new new names kept cropping up as replacements! 😊 Khans came up in end of 80s...QSQT got aamir khan who became nations chocolate hero big time...fir MPK n then SRK much later with Raju bana gaya gentleman etc!!

Absolutely, no one can touch him in that department. The moves he did in Partner were pure class and imagine that was an old, past his peak Govinda & he smashed it. He's got the moves like Jagger

MIthun -> He did dance based movies a lot during that time. Disco dancer toh hai hi, I remember seeing Dance Dance Dance..which was also ahit..fir i remember pyaar jhukta nahi , jaal , ..he even did a v good comdey role in agneepath..krishnan iyer MA..which was very well -performed. Overall, he was a bankable star back then!

Rishi Kapoor -> His forte was Romance when he started with bobby, saagar, Karz..they were all Big Hits!!!..uske baad in 80s , it was Family drama..., mainly..but he did v good cinema...Naseeb,
Dosti Dushmani , Ghar Ghar Ki Kahani , Chandni, Henna ...these were all v memorable movies and he was also a top star at that time. Later , he did damini in 90s n so on...
around sametime, He came in Bol Radha Bol which was also a v big hit ...but he had become quite round by that time ...he was also in deewana opp divya bharati...😊..these r the movies which i remember off-hand..so i m sure he has done even more!😊

Every actor had his phase.
Mithun gave some memorable dance movies. and his and bappi lahiri combination was legendary in those days. (most songs copied though). his moves were a rage.

sunny had his own time in the limelight with action movies. his gadar was ATBB but people would prefer arjun and ghayal.

jackie was a hunk. too bad he was too struck up with subhash ghai to venture out much.

Sanjay is a fine actor. when he gets good movies he gives memorable performances. his personal life messed up his career when he was at peak though.

Anil is FORVER around.

Rishi kapoor is the original lover boy. has to give up his throne after all that weight. even sweaters couldn't hide his girth.

so who is the biggest draw. ALL of them in their time frame.

i personally think anil kapoor is versatile and adaptable and yes street smart to keep with the changing trends.😊

@nimmi and @tere_mere

I know Mithun and Govinda were popular dancing stars but I wanted to know who was better at box office and where they stood in comparison to likes of Sunny, Anil, Sanjay, Jackie?

I've read Jackie won some most handsome guy polls in 1980s. Must've been popular as a hottie then.
